  • Fartlek speed play runs. Run like 2 to 3 miles inserting short sprints of like 200meters. Or alternate light poles. Like run hard between 2 light poles then slow the next.
  • Nevermind. I figured it out.
  • Definitely make sure she clears it with her doctor. If she is motivated enough, she could improve her fitness a lot. Start slow and go up from there. It is never to late to get into shape.
  • You need to strengthen your core. I had the same issue and it took a year of core strengthening but it WORKS! Go online and find videos for bridges, hamstring strengthening, knee strengthening and side lying leg lift , single leg bridges. You must do these correctly. Here is one video link…
  • I wouldn't think it fair to burden small mom and pop restaurants with more regulation so No, I don't think it should be mandated. If someone wants to track calories that closely as well as nutrition, just don't eat out. It's healthier anyways. Besides, how would you know even if they did post labels that it wasn't made…
  • I ran a 5K last Saturday in the pouring rain. About 80 other runners were as crazy as me. Some left after they decided it was raining too hard to be safe. It was actually fun! I couldn't wear my glasses and the streets were a mess with puddles. My earbuds kept falling out from the rain hitting the side of my face.
  • You look great! You look healthy and fit. Way to go. You know, I think your family may have the envies. Maybe they wish they too could look as good as you.
  • Good job! I have been running for 2 years now and I'm almost under the 2 hour mark for the half. I still have 8 more pounds to lose. I was almost there and then gained 5 pounds back under stressful circumstances. I'm back on the wagon and hoping to lose that final 8 pounds. Running has been an incredible motivator for me.…
  • PR a 5K this past weekend. Ran it in 25:13. I've been running for not quite 2 years and I am in my 50's. I started at age 51 so I'm happy with my time although it appears to be slow compared to all you really fast runners.
  • Glad I could help QuietBloom. If you have a way to have someone video you while you run that would help a lot. Of all the core you can do, I believe the double leg bridge and side hip leg raises are invaluable for fixing weak glutes and correcting tilted pelvis problems. Fixing a poor running form is so difficult too. I…
  • I had the same issue. It was so bad I sought help at a running medicine clinic. There I was diagnosed with an anterior tilted pelvis and hip flexor tendinitis. I was heel striking due to overstriding and my running form was terrible. All this was due to weak core muscles. I had physical therapy and was also taught how to…
  • Do you train with a Garmin? When I started running in May 2012, I could barely run a mile. I used a Garmin to track my miles and pace. This helped a lot. You may be making more progress than you think. My guess you are running faster per mile.
  • I'm injured now. Just posted a topic on pulled hamstring. It's frustrating. I feel pressure too because I've already shelled out a lot of money for the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February. I wish you all the luck in your comeback. Be careful!
  • Six months should be time to train for a half marathon. Hal Higdon has a good schedule online you can follow. It took me 4 months to go from barely able to run a mile at a 12-13 min pace to 12 miles at 11:30 min/mile pace running 3 times a week. You can search the internet for free running schedules and advice.
  • Consistency. That is important. Last May, I began running. My goal was a half marathon by this December. When I started, I could barely run a mile. I live in Florida so the heat and humidity were unbearable at first. I had to run at 5AM the coolest part of the day. Since May. I ran a 5K, and have run up to 14 miles, no…
  • My sympathies to you. I had this condition for 1 1/2 years. It was so frustrating and discouraging. All I can say is work through it. I did, and now at age 51, I am going to run my first half marathon. There is hope. I never saw a doctor because of all the horror stories about surgery and injections. For me, I actually got…
  • In response to Yukongil This is hilarious. Made my day.:)
