I've achieved what I aimed for in 2012, which is to start my weight going in the right direction, instead of ever increasing. Small aims, but it's a start. My success so far is what's keeping me motivated, and I'll be starting lifting in the new year, arbitrarily aiming to be able to bench my body weight by the end of next…

Although I have none of my own, I've been involved with a few people over the years who have, including one who was self-harming while we were together. Also got some very good friends who have done, before we knew each other. I notice them, but I know everyone goes through some rough times in life, particularly when…

Oh, and swimming is a great way to get started, because although it supports your body, that allows you to go for longer than if you tried running, for instance, which will yield much better results in the long run.

You don't say how long it's been since you started trying hard to lose, but it sounds a little like you're not seeing immediate improvements and losing morale because of it. If your activity is as limited as you say, then that's probably the main problem. Don't push yourself too hard, but keep at it. Make sure you give…

Hell, I'm a guy, and I've always been intimidated by the weight lifters in the gym, but I was always the "fat bloke who couldn't lift much". I agree with the suggestions to create your own personal bubble, and that if they are looking at you, they're probably checking you out. Or depending on how much you lift,…

If they zip up, they can be worn in public, they might just be a little attention-grabbing. ;) My own NSV is trying on a t-shirt that I bought on the holiday that sent me to my heaviest weight this June, and it looking OK. There's a photo of me wearing it the day after I bought it, and it's stretched tight across my gut,…

USA & Canada only it seems. Sucks to be a Brit right now :(

This! I don't have it often, but when I do I could easily eat one of the big pots of the stuff. I'll have to check out the nitritional info, but I can see a jacket spud loading with this in my future :)

Well it's Wednesday morning now, and I'm sitting here coughing up a lung while delaying getting ready for work.

I'm starting to get the physique I had before putting the weight on, and I'm feeling a lot less put off by how I look now. Just need to add the muscles ;)

I've never broken a bone in my body.

Hi Linda, I'm 33, with 2 small kids, and I work too, so I understand about not having much time to exercise. I've also not got much to lose, so feel free to add me.

QFT! Haven't bought GW2 yet. My wife & I are still playing throught Prophecies! Our joint gaming has gone down in frequency since 2nd son was born, but I remember playing Masquerade in High School, when it first came out! Before the boys were born, My wife ran a game of Vampire the Requiem where I played a 5' tall…

I've read some on and off. My wife used to write some Harry Potter stuff back before all the books were out. I think it might even be on FF.net. Either way, she tended to get good reviews.

Plenty. My wife and I are going to see it at the weekend, so we've had to arrange babysitting. This necessitates conversation. :)

I'm Andy, and my power is remembering just about every geek fact I ever encounter. Biggest geek I know in person.

Feel free to add me. Dad of 2 small boys here.

That's quite some transformation! Well done!

Me and me alone. I got sick of looking at myself in the mirror and seeing the podge, or looking down in the shower and seeing it. Enough was enough.

I definitely seem to be getting to the limits of what I can lose healthily by just controlling what I eat, so I'm going to be adding weights to my efforts in the new year, and am looking to follow StrongLifts. I'm expecting that I'll drop a few kilos at first, but then as the muscle builds, I'll get back up to where I am…

The big question is WHY do you want to lose weight. It doesn't matter what that reason is, as long as you know what it is, and keep that reason foremost in your mind. That won't stop you losing short term motivation, but for teh most part, it'll help you stay focused and get to where you want to be.

Agreed. There's no other way to drink it. If you need to add anything to it to make the taste palatable, it's not worth drinking (IMO, anyway)

I've got a similar, although less extreme situation with my wife. She knows she could do with losing some weight (and is actually lighter now than when our first son was conceived 4 years ago, so there has been progress for her along the way), and is generally supportive of my efforts, including noticing that my body shape…

Feel free to add me too. 33, grew up in Essex, now living in Yorkshire with my wife & 2 kids, having had an extended (10 years) stay in Bristol. Already lost a good chunk since joining MFP around a month ago, going to need some help sticking to the workouts in the new year though.
