  • I've learned to follow my sister's method of ordering dressing on the side and then dipping my fork in it as I go along...uses a tablespoon or two at the most.
  • Skinnytaste has a lot of great looking recipes. Just Google skinnytaste zoodles.
  • Tea and water...I don't drink my calories. Gave up Diet Coke since New Years, and feel much better.
  • There is an over 60 group on here with several hundred members...so, yes there are lots like you. I am 74 myself, active, and on maintenance.

  • They don't serve our huge portions, and the nouvelle cuisine doesn't use the rich, buttery sauces. You'll be fine.
  • Pringles makes individual portion containers...much safer.
  • I buy the unseasoned ones at Costco, and there are enough to last a long time at a bargain price. My favorite use: spread on Ak-Mak crackers, (or grahams if you prefer) top with a tiny spread of All-fruit preserves, and you have a pseudo-cheesecake to have with tea.
  • Mine is very different. I chop and saute onion, red pepper, and fresh tomatoes in a pan lightly coated with olive oil cooking spray. Add a good bottled salsa to taste (hot, if that's what you like) Drop eggs onto this mixture, and sprinkle low fat jack cheese on top. Cover and cook just until the egg whites are cooked…
  • They may get away with eating that way now, but give them another 20 years or so, and their metabolisms will probably slow down. Then the weight could pile on unless they change their eating habits. Meanwhile, you are developing good lifetime eating habits, and someday your body will thank you for all those veggies!
  • Bet the next picture you post will be a smiling one!
  • I'm much older, but I used online dating for many years and met some really nice guys, especially on Match. com. I agree with telling the truth. Also, try not to generalize...No "loves to walk on the beach." I was always careful to 'vet' anyone that sounded interesting, and always met at a public coffee shop. My son met…
  • I do Zumba three times a week. Two in class, and one with DVDs, which I vary. I need regular exercise just to maintain, and love the dance moves, but I also do cardio classes, and work on strength, balance, and flexibility. We have several women who are regulars in Zumba class who are overweight, and one who is obese, so…
  • PLAN!! If it's possible, plan out your day. I often log my meals even before I eat them, and I nearly always check calorie counts in restaurants before going out to eat. These nutritionals online are real eye openers! Logging exercise before you go to the gym, or out to walk, will push you out the door. Good luck on this…
  • You are doing so well, losing all that weight and staying on maintenance. Maintenance is hard enough without adding three weeks of trigger foods, which ice cream obviously is for you. You don't mention if your sister also has/had a weight problem, but you are also feeding her all that ice cream, too. My concern is that…
  • Hi, There are lots of us! There is even a group on here of age 60-plus MFPs, with hundreds of members. Check it out!
  • Beautiful fresh strawberries with a strawberry yogurt dip.
  • 1470 calories, but I'm pretty active at least 4-5 times a week. If I go over, or use too many of the calories I burn, I can still gain...slower metabolism, I guess. I keep it between 116-118 lbs.
  • Wait for your doctor's appointment. He/she will probably want a fasting blood test...tell your aunt to quit poking you with needles. I have a family history of diabetes too, but with my weight controlled, a healthy diet, and exercise, my blood sugar is fine (and I'm 73!)
  • Your weight may be a factor, but there are some heavy gals in my Zumba class. They just do what they can, and still love the dancing...and they don't give up! Believe me, it's not undoable. I'm 73, and do a Zumba class twice a week in addition to my other aerobics classes, plus a Zumba DVD on the weekends. I didn't start…
  • Try reading this excellent article from the December issue of National Geographic: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2013/08/sugar/cohen-text It pretty much explains it all.
  • Hey, Kid! If you're "old" I must be ancient! I tend to eat lean chicken, turkey, and fish/seafood. Don't agree that nuts are fattening, unless you scoop up handfuls. I count out almonds, which are so good for you. An omelet or scramble still tastes good with 4 whites and only one yolk. I'm milk intolerant, so Lactose free…
  • Pretty much all processed sugars for more than 30 years. It gets easier in time. Lots of fruit and veggies...
  • That fruit is GOOD for you...natural food high in fiber and vitamins. It shouldn't be lumped in with processed sweets. I took sugar out of my category list, and have lots of fruits and vegetables daily. I keep within my maintenance calories, and feel great!
  • I love fresh fruit! Since I don't eat most processed sugars and sweets, and am not diabetic, I can't see any reason to give up natural sugars. The problem would be substituting nourishing foods for sweet desserts in order to stay under goal. I have eliminated the sugar category from my totals on MFP in settings...
  • I know that you were just excited to share. I had an amazing time with a group of friends at the original Canyon Ranch in Tucson many years ago. Also ate lunch at their Las Vegas spa when we were on vacation there. Terrific low calorie gourmet menu. So happy you had a great 50th!
  • Try a Benadryl topical ream...over the counter.
  • I am on maintenance now with the same 1410 calories. Once my weight stabilized to 116, I found that I needed to keep the calories I eat to that number, although I do add some or all of my exercise allowance, especially on Zumba or high cardio days. Otherwise, I can gain if I go over. But each of us is different...Do a…
  • I will be 73 next week and have never felt healthier in my life! I yo-yo dieted for 40 years before I had a handle on it, but could still gain on a trip (as I did last year). MFP has been a lifesaver. I have made so many supportive friends here and am back to cardio exercise and Zumba. It is never too late to be a happy…
  • Thanks for the response. We are fortunate enough to have a spacious kitchen...and to have grown kids. I guess you'll have to figure out a way to work out your weight loss on your own. Some take-out can be lower in calories and healthier. They are all starting to make salads and listing calorie counts. I will now butt out!
