• I DID go to a high end, reputable running store - that's whats weird. The Saucony Stabil is one on my approved list, they didnt have my size tho. I'm trying the Brooks Addiction right now. Good to know - at the end of the day maybe 'just getting used to them' will have to suffice. I'm just a cheap Hollander and hate taking…
• Agreed, but you're at a different level. We're talking about her, not you. For someone who has never lifted 40# before and then told to go try to do it over and over for 30-60 minutes I dont think is the best advise either. Why are a couple of you pointing to the extremes? Nobody said to start with kittens or cat litter…
• I disagree. You have to build up to heavy weights. Can't go zero to 100 immediately. You're more likely to hurt something, dislike it so much you wont keep at it, etc. Challenge yourself, yes, but learn good form first - and that's the first thing that goes out the door with uneducated lifters using too heavy of weights.
• I agree with the others. First see a doctor - the things you listed sound suspicious of a medical problem. Next, swap 2-3 cardio days with strength training. I'd highly suggest finding a gym or other place that offers group classes - or some sessions with a trainer - to get you started. You'll learn lots of full body…
• Yes, follow it. Don't try to skip ahead if it feels easy, don't skip rest days, etc.. Don't run too fast - find a comfortable pace for YOU (it's not a race, you're building endurance and muscle memory). I still dont enjoy running but at least I can run a 5k now non-stop, so it does indeed work
• When time allows (which isnt too often). But I did manage 8 workouts in 6 days last week, so 2 were obvioulsy double-days.
• Thankfully I work from home now, but I once worked on the top floor of a really old bldg with a small shared bathroom. I recall this tiny, sweet young gal from the other office who was sometimes on our floor. We didnt need to peek over the cubical partitions to see who just came out of the bathroom - we all KNEW when she…
• Need a HR monitor. Nobody will know how much you'd burn doing your routine, including MFP.
• Couch to 5K all the way. Worked for me too when I did it this past fall. Can't say I've developed that love of running yet, but at least I can go do 3-4 miles now. And I was like you before
• Peanut butter on whole grain toast, yogurt with some berries/granola, and a protein shake or two and you'd be pretty close. Plus you'd be getting more protein which is sounds like you could use (if that's a typical day)
• I didnt take the time to read all 10,000 responses, but I'll chime in. Marriage is a union, and so should the finances. We each bring strengths and weakness to the table. I made $100k last yr and my wife makes under 5k part-time. But I know she handles a lot more matters with the kids, household, etc. Most of it should be…

• As others have stated, you really need a HRM. Until then you'll have to take all these opinions and make your best guess. I'm an avid Spinner-have been for a couple years. My cal's have obviously dropped as I've gotten more adapted to it, but I do push really hard each class. Last night I did a 'race day' class. One of the…
•
You're an attorney and you're posting on a weight loss forum?
Who cares what job she has? There are a lot worse things that get on this forum!!! She's a long-time dedicated MFP member looking for some personal support - give her a break I answered you in another place Linda, and you're welcome for…
• I take mine after a good breakfast (which follows my early a.m. workout) and never have a problem. I take a mens daily multivitamin and two fish oil capsules. All 3 are VERY large in size. Maybe try taking at a different time of day with a meal like I do and see if your reaction changes. If not, I'd stop immediately and…
• Huh? You might want to re-think that. Maybe 'burns fat calories faster than carb calories'? So are you saying its good to eat a high fat diet because you can burn it off easier? Sorry, but I find that troubling
• Right on! Gotta think about arteries, etc, not just the scale.
• It's nice you run/walk 4-5X/week, but if thats all you do that could be part of the problem you describe. You're probably conditioned to that activity now. You really need to switch things up and confuse your body. And somehow fit in some weights a couple times a week (lean muscle burns fat). Maybe your friends will join…
• I just started running this past fall as well by doing C25K. Still not very good at it, but a lot better than I was. A local running store offers free seminars on "Good Form Running". Find their website and look to see if there's anything in your area. They video tape you running and show it to you in slo-mo. Very…
• You're welcome to friend me if ya want. I have become a bit of a gym rat but not a big bulky weight lifting kind. I go more for the Conditioning/Lean muscle stuff just for good general health and well-being. You may find, like I did, that working out gets addicting once you get going for a while. Good luck in your journey!
• P.S. My wife just turned 42 and we have 3 kids. She can fit into her dress from marriage rehersal dinner 16 yrs ago and a class shirt from senior yr in high school. So it CAN be done. She eats right and does lots of Zumba
• Could your target range be unrealistic? Could you be eating too little? Maybe you need to switch up your workout routine and break that plateau? Maybe if we knew more about you we could offer more specific ideas
• The models I've seen around here require you to hold buttons in to take HR (no chest strap). Wont track calories burned that way. My wife tried one and returned it. Buttons were hard to operate - it was basically useless. Maybe they have other models, but not sure I'd trust them. Save up and get a Polar, you wont regret it.
• Do yourself a favor and get a Polar. Great product and they stand behind them well. I have an FT40 but you could certainly get by with an FT4 or 7. Lots of internet sites - just start searching them to find the best deal. Be careful of buying used - no warranty to 2nd owner. Some models need to be sent to factory to…
• I would disagree. You should burn a LOT of calories doing this! My HR was 150's-160's while running which is higher than I usually get in a spin class or most other exercise (and I workout 6X/week)
• Yes, yes, and yes. It works. While I would classify myself as being in better than average shape overall, I've never been a runner. Committed myself to doing the program and now I can run a 5k. In fact I'm now running 2 miles just as a warm-up to my usual workout routine. Would have never imagined that just a few months…
• Based on the four options you listed, I'd say swimming. If you qualify the bike by saying 'spin class', then I might pick that one instead (or rotate between them - better yet)
• I personally add cinnimon, a little brown sugar, and some raisins. Sometimes a splash of milk to thin it. Fast, filling and healthy. Helps with my cholesterol too. Hopefully you can find a way to prepare it so that you like it.
• Yup, Byron Center (near G.R.).
• "Pain is just weakness leaving the body". Maybe focus more on progress/steps. If you've been doing it for a while I'm sure you have gotten better, right? Count how long you can do that/those activities before giving out. Each week or two see if you can go 10 more seconds. You'll have a goal plus a way to see your progress…
