  • C25K, and follow it close even if you feel like skipping ahead early on. 8-9 weeks ago I could barely run 5min at a time, now I run 2-3 miles almost everyday as a warmup to group classes at the gym. It DOES work if you stick with it. Good luck!
  • Same here. Jay Robb has less sugar and other 'stuff' than others we've found yet tastes great. Highly recommend it.
  • I was just gonna say that...Zumba.com.... My wife is an instructor and gets a lot of calls from the website listing. Good place for you to start. All instructors are different. If you dont care for one, try another. Some are quite provacative, some very 'hippy', etc. My wife tries to include a lot of instruction and…
  • Depending on your doc, he may send you to a physical therapist. If so, take him/her up on that. You'll usually need to do PT before they would order an MRI or discuss surgery anyways. I am unfortunately a veteran at shoulder problems/PT. Surgery 3yrs ago was terrible and the problem still isnt fixed - doing PT again now.…
  • Awesome! That was me just a few weeks ago, so I understand what you're saying. I'm now doing 2-3 mile runs 3-4 times a week and its getting easier all the time. Keep it up!!
  • I'm fairly new to running. Due to winter weather I have only run outside a few times. It seemed harder to me - maybe because it was dark, cold and slightly hilly. I only put up with the dreaded treadmill because I have a friend next to me so we can chit chat the whole time. She's a little better runner than me so she can…
  • Depends on your goals. I've been spinning 3-4x/week for over 2 yrs now so it was getting a little old and i am conditioned to it. I recently started adding a running program. Now I go to gym at 5am, run 2 miles, go to spin (and other) classes. Sometimes I go run another 2 mi afterwards. My calorie burns are through the…
  • Didnt take the time to read all 6 pages of replies, but those I did see all seem to say the same thing. Sounds like ya need to move on - and sooner rather than later. Especially if kids are involved. I think she's playing you
  • Need a partner - keeps you accountable. Get everything ready the night before. I get up at 4:30, at the gym when they open at 5. Run 2 miles on treadmill then do a class (various) from 5:30-6:30. Shower and home by 7 to get son on bus. If my friend came at 5 and I stood her up, it would be 'game over'. That keeps me going!
  • Used to when I first started getting back in shape - especially starting spin classes. Now I never get it anymore.
  • Sure! Last week was my week 7 and I ran 5k around the track at the gym. Only took (3) 10-15 second drink breaks-no walking. If I could do it anyone can!
  • I'm a strong supporter of the Polar brand and suspect you'll get a lot of similar replies. I have an FT40 which has been great/flawless. My workout friend just ordered herself one just like it. MUST get one with a chest strap (all Polar's do)
  • Its called my FITNESS pal, not my food log pal. I'm not trying to lose any more weight. I'm pretty good at my food routine now. i only log once in a while to confirm i'm on track. I frankly dont care about my Days counter. I do like logging my excercise to see how it adds up throughout the week - not to impress anyone but…
  • Favorite: Spinning & Kickboxing Least: lunges, shoulder overhead press/fly's (because of my bad shoulder), treadmill/eliptical
  • 14. My friend and I played spin the bottle with 3 girls from the neighborhood. Quick pecks from each girl, then 'real' kisses from two of them afterwards. Closest i've ever been to a real multi-partner event - all went downhill from there LOL. Just recently found out I was the first kiss for the next girl I made out with -…
  • As you are seeing here everyone has different needs and personalities. You'll need to decide for yourself. That said, I personally have benefited from group classes at the Y. I was intimidated at first, especially being a guy. I dont care for dancy type classes but do more cardio sculpt/strength/boot camp kinds. I'll tell…
  • Yup - Been doing them 3-4X week for 2 yrs and I'm still a sweaty mess afterwards.
  • I just finished week 5 (had my big 20 min straight run this morning!) I mostly run on a track or outside, but when i'm on treadmill I find myself at 6.2 run and 4.0 walk speeds. Any more than that is too much for me at this point, and much slower just feels awkward. Listen to your body. I've been squeezing in my c25k…
  • Woo Hoo! Did the dreaded 20 min run this morning and felt great! Never would have thought......I found a partner to run with me lately which has helped a lot. She's not a huge runner but is a notch above me and was interested in seing what this was all about. Now I have her getting up 1/2 hr earlier than normal to join me!
  • That was my reaction too! I'm happy to say I did the 20min run this morning and it went surprisingly well
  • We just had a new state of the art YMCA branch open. The spin studio is filled with all 'Spinner' bikes. You can see them at www.spinning.com. They are way nicer than the old Schwinn's at the 'old' Y. You'd have to resarch how/where to buy at the best price. They also have 4 bikes on the gym floor with screens and a…
  • Suppose its out of the question to request pictures from ya'll? Just asking...lol I personally would much rather look at a big top than a big bottom.
  • Week 4 done. My legs feel pretty darn good but still breathing too hard on long runs - maybe too fast? I've noticed my HR is not spiking as high as it used to be so thats good progress (i think). Once I even ran 7.5 minutes by accident - was chatting with a friend and missed to cue to walk - lol Question: How bad is it to…
  • Two WEEKS? Maybe ask these questions at two MONTHS.
  • I certainly dont mean to downplay your hectic schedule - I applaud you for all you do. I see a lot of very good replies and am sure you can make some of them work if you want to bad enough. Regarding your comment above, we'd all LIKE more sleep. I seldom go to sleep before 10pm either but have simply MADE myself start the…
  • I get up at 4:30am. Not an easy thing for me but its the only way to 'make it work'. I run a small business, have 3 kids, and a small hobby farm.
  • After a lot of research, we decided the Jay Robb brand. Compare ingredients - some have a lot of 'extras' you may not want/need
  • Maybe increase your cardio? When I get my HR in the 130-150 range and keep it there for extended periods I tend to burn the most calories while also building endurance. Are you logging your foods and staying within the goals? We dont know enough about your routine and diet to offer more specifics.
  • Well, I suppose compared to women who do no workouts that would be true. But 6 miles a week on a bike is nothing. 6 a day isn't even very much but something is better than nothing.
