Yet another vote for a heart rate monitor. This way you'll get how many calories YOU burned, not how many calories a hypothetical person would burn using some random algorithm. Until I had my HRM monitor I just used whichever calculator had the least amount of calories burned so I wouldn't eat too much back

Great job!!!

Maintain your pace and don't psych yourself out. Usually my brain is much weaker than my legs!

First I'd go to a Dr to see what they can do about your joints. I have one very bad knee but with a proper brace I can do just about anything. And then take it slow and build yourself up. I know with my knee, targeting and strengthening the muscles surrounding it have greatly helped with the pain. You might need a little…

When I first started the program I sometimes repeated a week before moving on. I think that is why this has been the first time I was able to increase my distance without injuring myself. I now run 3 miles as my regular workout and train for 10ks...and it's because I took it slow

There's absolutely no reason not to

I'm in! thanks!

Another RunKeeper fan here.

People have really heated debates about this! I think it all comes down to preference. I don't feel like I have as much energy if I don't eat something first. If I'm just doing a short run or workout, I'll just have a banana or some peanut butter on an English muffin. Longer run I'd eat something a little big bigger and…

I saw a posting the other day about listening to audiobooks while running. I haven't tried it yet but I'm excited to try it. I never have time to read anymore with 2 little ones

You can add me....late 30's and all I really want is to not look pregnant anymore ;)

We didn't get ourselves in this situation in just one day, it was a lifestyle. You've changed your lifestyle now so one 'off' day isn't going to ruin you. Keep at it!!!

I was in your exact same situation last year. Former runner who really loved it. Every time I tried to get back into it I would either get discouraged that I was so slow and out of shape or I'd get injured. Last spring I started Couch to 5K and I made myself follow it step by step even though I thought that as a former…

Setting the incline on your treadmill, even to as little as 1%, will help simulate running outside. Running outside is much more difficult than the treadmill

When you set up your goals, etc, enter yourself as having an active lifestyle. It's not exercise, just how you live. MFP will take that into account when it sets your calories and goals

I use runkeeper now to keep track of my runs. When I started last year I did Couch to 5K and then Couch to 10k to build up my endurance. I have really bad knees and I credit both those programs for getting my distance up slowly without injuring myself

Boxing??? I know whenever my knee starts to bother me, I switch to boxing. Still gets your heart rate up while focusing on upper body. It's not AS good of a cardio workout but its better than nothing

You can rent workout videos from your local library or they are often on freecycle or craigslist. You certainly don't need them to work out but a variety does help you from getting bored

My stomach is starting to tighten up and get smaller. Still a long way to go but it gives me hope.

I would definitely get something to stabilize your knee. Once you're set with that, I thought C25K was the first running program I've tried in years that didn't hurt my knee.

I blew my knee out at 24 and was told that I had the arthritic knees of a 70 year old and to expect knee replacement in 7-10 years. That was 11 years ago. I went to physical therapy immediately following that and I still religiously do my exercises. Even at my heaviest and most un-active, I did the PT. I still feel it with…

I do it on the days I can't get a full work out in so my results probably aren't typical. (I'm not exclusively doing this nor am I doing it every day for 30 days like it recommends). I will say that it is a good, kick your *kitten* workout in a short amount of time. I have definitely found myself getting stronger over time…

If you search online there is a calculator for it. I think on Jillian's website. It's something like 1.2 calories per pound. It's obviously a rough estimate

I read somewhere that willpower is a muscle and you have to exercise it for it to get stronger. So every time you pass up a sweet, that willpower muscle will get stronger. Next time you want to eat, walk away for 5 minutes and then decide if you really want it. Or tell yourself that if you're hungry, you can have some…

I get what you mean...in target once my 4 year old asked when she could buy the "bottle of Jack" toothpaste ;) I like top 40 for my workout. Katy Perry, K$sha. Also have some Pink, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson. I read somewhere that if you'd be embarrassed to be caught singing along...it's good workout music ;)

I just started doing it again after a few months off...well more than a few! Doing it on the days I don't manage to wake up early and run. Definitely will need some help getting movitated to do it while the baby naps!
