  • I am sorry that you feel so unsafe in your own community.
  • Love it but don't eat it often as it is notoriously absorbent - and will suck up all the yummy oil it has been prepared with.....
  • I'm getting pretty good a serving sizes. I eat one cup of cereal, half a cup of ice cream etc. What I hate it the diabetic serving size of HALF a medium banana. Have you any idea how sad the other half of that banana looks by the next day! I also hate things that have half cup (4 oz) serving sizes in a 14 oz. can. I think…
  • Take them to the Youth Emergency shelter just down the road.....
  • If I had known I was going to get this old, I would have taken better care of myself.
  • This is great, Jay! Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention. The case studies are interesting but I particularly like the summary at the end. This should be a must read. I hope everyone on this forum takes the time.
  • 6.5 mmol (or 117 for those in the US.) Had a low carb dinner and adjusted gluconorm accordingly. Looks about right.
  • Potato is not the enemy unless you eat restaurant sized potatoes that would feed a family of four in a developing country, or slather them with a ton of fatty goodness. Try this : one Small to Medium potato, baked (eat the skin its high fiber, tastes good and has a load of nutrients right underneath it). Top it with a…
  • Ameberley, there is no such thing as happy cleaning - unless your spouse does it.......
  • I don't do cleaning "sessions'. I hate cleaning so I do it in putter around mode - a bit here, a bit there in passing. Clean a sink, mop a floor, dust some furniture, clean the range hood, strip beds, laundry as I see it needs it. I am retired so I just fit it in here and there around the rest of my life. By the way, I…

  • Eeek. 4.1 mmol (that's 73 in the measurement you use in the US) Gonna need a substantial snack to get me to morning without crashing.........
  • Please follow up on this forum. I think a lot of us are worried about you.
  • Oh yeah. Its so bad I have actually given my companions the giggles going upstairs.....
  • Butter all the way for me. Contrary so some of the comments above it has almost the exact number of calories as margarine (except the ones that are thinned with air, salt water, dairy, etc. to lower the calories - ie: processed within an inch of their lives....) and about the same amount of sodium as margarine. The best…
  • Yep. IT takes a bit of getting used to - a couple of weeks. But it works so well once you've settled in... Hang in there.
  • Get your doctor to refer you to a diabetes teaching program in your area. I think this should be automatic, but many doctors don't if you don't specifically ask. These programs are usually a group sit down learning session with diabetic educators (generally RN's) and dietitians. This is often paired in a clinic format with…
  • Kudos to the OP for finding a way to make lemonade with the quick and inexpensive "lemon" options available. While there is no disputing that home food, well prepared, from known and fresh unprocessed ingredients will always be the best choice, not everyone can (or would want to) eat that way at every meal. Informing…
  • Once in a long while I will have a day when I forget to test after the morning test but that is sooooo rare! I test about 7 times a day (including one in the middle of the night) so I have a really clear idea of the effects of food and medicaion (Insulin and gluconorm) and avoid lows. I don't think I would have made it…
  • When I first read about clean eating I thought it meant I needed to wash my produce before eating it. I had always considered that a given. After reading more I decided that eating clean really seemed to mean eating home food prepared from fresh ingredients: Food brought to you from a farmer not a factory. And I thought,…
  • I suspect that both balck and white men prefer women who do not make assumtions about their preferences based on race. I could be wrong.....
  • What bdubya said. It happens, and it is a pretty minimal thing. Your nurse had a good suggestion about the angle of injection, but you might also look at getting a tinier needle, although I use a 6mm needle and still manage to hit a vein now and again.
  • jsiricos Thanks for that. I will look at getting it replaced. As its problems only seem to occur at extremely high blood glucose readings, I would probably never have had difficulties with it, but I am up with a free replacement. Its a been a great meter for me.
  • biddy81 "yolo" is short for "you only live once" - which, although true, is not really a good reason to barf on anyone's couch..
  • Hi Monica. Glad to see you here. Between the diet and nutrition support and the good company, I think you'll get a handle on your T2 just fine. First I would like to say that diabetes is not a death sentence or a horror story unless you don't do anything about it. I have had T2 for twenty years and still have healthy eyes,…
  • The veggies you say you like are all good munched raw too. We all stick to the veggies we like - I am living proof that one can live a long time without eating lima beans and beets. As long as you have a good variety - which you seem to - and eat enough servings per day, you'll be fine. You might want to consider…
  • Yep. Has anyone else noticed tht the database has nutritional info for "Pig Out - lots of food"? Used it tonight.
  • Rule 7: Never be afraid to ask stupid questions. They are far easier to deal with than stupid mistakes.
  • Pita crisps with tzatziki and antipasto Ham braised in unsweetened apple juice Scalloped potatoes (not the cheesey kind) Root vegetable bake Roasted asparagus Spinach and arugula salad with mango and red peppers (home made vinaigrette) Crescent rolls Saskatoon berry pie (made with Splenda) and no sugar added reduced fat…
  • I really like my One Touch Verio IQ. I test up to 7 times a day. (I would hate to be limited to how often I would test!) My insurance covers as many as I need. (I wonder if this is a Canada thing....)
