"8" I am new to this and am still learning. When I overeat I have a hard time getting it under control again. Christmas for me means being on the road a lot and going into other people's homes and eating whatever they are offering... So yes, this time of year is a bit scary when I am new to making a life style change.

You could try this?: http://www.my-calorie-counter.com/calorie_calculator.asp#

Your BMR is not the amount of calories you should eat, it is the amount of calories you naturally burn a day just as you are. MFP calculates how many calories you should consume in order to help with your weight loss goal.

Thanks everyone! My 1200 calorie thing is what this site recommended based on all my info. And no, it is not near that time of month. haha

really pay attention to labels. Foods like fruits and veggies you can eat more of because they have less calories. There is no magical food that just drops pounds.

5'5 and 119 lbs is very thin... You may want to speak to a professional... Maybe your doctor and a nutritionist. It sounds as though you may still have some disturbed perceptions of body image...

Exercise and follow the cal limit that MFP tells you. Avoid caffeine and aspartame.

Wow! such a difference! even in your face! keep up the good work!

Whatever works for you. I did the points system and was able to KEEP off the weight I loss, no matter what. THAT I enjoyed. Whether it is with the points system or calories through MFP, I find it makes me more conscious of what I am eating. I like this way (calorie counting) more because I am able to be mindful of…

I heard from my friend who works with a trainer and lost about 100 lbs since January that diet pop is really bad for you and bad for weight loss. I do not know why... I am sure too much of any chemical is not good for you though. I used to like pop, coffee, juice... anything tasty! But now it is JUST water, sometimes tea,…

Also for me, I do not plan to look at a scale. What is the point of obsessing and feeling depressed about it? For me, this is a LIFESTYLE change... not just trying to lose weight. So, I need to keep this in mind when at events. What can I cut back on but still enjoy? You need to do what is enjoyable for you AND what fits…

I am nervous about Christmas too because I will be away... so I am relying on other people's cooking or takeout while travelling PLUS I won't be near my gym... ugh. My plan is to still try and keep fit... by walking or maybe using a gym as a guest. For the next few weeks events are spread out (3 potlucks!!!) so I am just…

Why are you allowing people to treat you like that? Set up some boundaries. You should not even be engaging in that sort of conversation with them. Surely there are other people you can interact with. They speak to you like that because they know they can.

If you are that active and eating 800 calories a day, this can put your body into starvation mode.

I am okay at 1200. It is all about just eating better foods really. I struggled the first two days because I was always hungry! But now I think I have a handle on it. Can someone explain how upping calories makes you lose weight though? I do not understand this.

You look great! I have very similar curves as you do. This is very inspirational. Thank you.

Thanks everyone! Definitely some helpful ways of percieving things here. I quit coffee so I would feel better, feel more hydrated, not have to rely on it to prevent headaches, etc. Plus, it worsens anxiety. I also love coffee with cream and sugar and that adds up too. I do enjoy black teas and will have them every now and…

My friend/gym buddie sees a trainer and he recommends you do strength training/weights and then do cardio. There is a science behind it... you are likely to burn more calories/fat that way. I don't think this answered your question. But just some advice!

I usually incorpoarate things like fruits and veggies and sometimes something like a Speciak K snack bar.

I saw how motivated my friend was, and how well she was doing with going to the gym and eating well. I thought, "Well if she can do it, I can do it." I want to be healthy, strong, and just feel better about myself.
