I know that something so small can easily make someone so self conscience, I have a funky toe nail that use to keep me from wearing dark nail polish. Then last summer I figured screw it. Life's too short not to wear red nail polish. You look fantastic and I loved your story! Thank you for sharing!

I was in a similar situtation a few years ago. My doctor told me that just about any exercise is okay when done correctly. I ended up opting for walking and swim-arobitcs. The minimal stress on the body just made me feel better. I eventually got pregnant and ended up quiting the swim-arobitcs in my 3rd trimester but I…

I don't know if I find it creepy, but it's definitely odd. But whatever works for you!

I didn't have a lot of support in the beginning but in all fairness that was my fault, I didn't tell anyone I was trying to lose weight. After it started to become noticable my friends and family would congratulate me and be supportive in that way but I've never had a fit-friend to work out with or anything like that.

While I do have a "goal" weight of 155, I'm just going until I feel happy and healthy. If that's 170 or 130 or whatever it ends up being, so be it.

You might want to play around with your calorie intake. When I first started I set my daily goal to 1200 calories and my body REFUSED to lose any weight. After a few frustrating weeks I found a post that stated that some people just need more food to lose weight, so I up'ed it to 1680 and the pounds started melting off.…

Start slow. I started allowing myself 1700 calories a day and drinking the right amount of water. I didn't worry about exercising or hitting my macros, I just focused on my calories. And that's all I did to lose my first 20 pounds. Then I slowly added in some exercise. I knew how to eat right and could focus on exercising.…

1. About 5 months 2. 1600 calories 3. alternated between workout videos (30mins) and running (45mins)

I don't know near enough to give anyone advice but if someone approached me, I'd be down with it. Assuming the person wasn't just being rude or mean. I want to do things better and correctly. I'm still learning.

I currently live in Oklahoma but I did live up in Alaska for 6 years prior. I'm big into the chores the colder weather provides: shoveling snow, chopping wood (no idea how outdoorsy you are but this is something we did all winter in both Alaska and now in Oklahoma), trimming trees, etc. Now, if you're more of a city girl…

It's taken me a year to lose almost 50 lbs. It's been slow but totally worth it.

This is a fantastic and beautiful perspective. Well said!

I have to agree with what everyone has already said but my best piece of advice is to remember that it isn't a diet. It's a new way of living. You're teaching yourself to eat the right food and in proper portions. That means that most of the time you'll eat only what you plan and plan to eat only what's good for you.…

I started out where you're at, I was 282 and did NO exercise. I started out at 1900 calories and thought I was going to die, it was such a small amount of food compared to what I normally ate. Give 1500 a shot for a day or two to feel out if it's right for you. If you're starving all day, then bump it up to 1700 until you…

I completely agree about talking to grandma about her choice of words. Not appropriate. I think you handled it well. If she continues to seem sensitive about her weight maybe have her help plan a few healthy meals during the week or go for a family walk in the evenings. It'll give you guys some extra daddy\daughter time,…

I had a hunger phase too. My body was used to a LOT of food. And it didn't matter how many carrot sticks I ate between meals to hold me over. It took about a week but once it was over, it was over. I just wanted food. I've been able to stick with it ever since.

I used to be addicted to cheese fries. So when I first started I decided to get a burger and only eat half a small order of cheese fries. Oh my!! I was shocked. I don't know why I thought that deep fried potato covered in melted cheese wouldn't be that bad for me, but it was a shocker.

Option 2. Higher protein. Lower sodium and sugar.

When I first started I only looked at the calories. It was a lot to take in all at once and I had a long way to go. Focusing just on the calories made it a bit easier for me. After a few months I started paying attention to my fat and making sure I got enough protein. Now I'm obsessed with my sodium intake. I try to eat as…

I've actually never recalculated my calories. I've been set at 1680 a day since I started, and I've lost pretty steadily. I might just be lucky though.

It's taken me 11 months to lose 40 pounds. Like most people here, I'm okay with it. This isn't a diet. I'm learning how to eat for the rest of my life and that includes cake at birthday parties and popcorn at the movies. The important thing is that I feel healthy and even though I've got a ways to go I feel so much better…

Good to know. I've been running for the last year (just at the gym and around my neighborhood) and really want to do a 5K. This is something I would have never thought of. Thanks!

I have to agree. I weigh myself every day and log only once a week.

I use to travel for work and as a result ate out constantly. I was already a little overweight but had convinced myself that I carried my weight well and didn't look as fat as I was. Then one night in my hotel room I was lounging on the bed and looked away from the TV to the full length mirror that happened to be right…

Congrats!! I recently hit my halfway mark too. No better feeling in the world!
