  • I do running and I always eat something small first thing in AM (Yogurt, banana, sometimes something more if I'm going a long distance), then have a light continuation for short runs (i.e. Some eggs + Toast) or If I'm burning 1000+ calories I go for broke and devour some pancakes and lean meats
  • Hello fellow runner. As others have said, losing weight will certainly help, but I think you are being a bit ambitious trying to not only increase your long run from 6 miles to 13.1, but also increase your half marathon pace from ??? to 9:00 min/mile. For comparison, my half marathon pace for this past September was 12:12…
  • I'm currently in similar situation -- at around 25-30 MPW but am only doing running (no strength training) so it may not be an exact comparison. As far as the weight loss goes however I find the weeks I lose weight are when I stick to the calorie deficit (640 calories per day is what I am set to now) and weeks I don't lose…
  • Like rachel (and I'm sure many others are in the same boat) said, if you drink on occasion trying to cut all alcohol out of your diet isn't a realistic long term solution. Definitely track every drink along with your other calories and if you go over your goal just compensate as the week goes on. Even better, if you plan…
  • I used to use drinking and eating all those awesome foods at social gatherings as an excuse NOT TO keep dieting, or I'd lie to myself and say "well, this week is a loss, I'm going to eat like this week but Monday I'll be back on board". Of course Monday's came and went and I started packing on the weight again. For me the…
  • The usual reply for this question is... it depends! I use gym equipment (mostly exercise bikes and treadmills) and when I bike a 60 min session at a more or less constant 150-160 BPM, it shows as 560 calories. I take 10% off when logging exercise (note 10% of what the machine tells me, not what MFP tells me) and tend to…
  • Lean meats like turkey and chicken and most fish are great since they are protein packed and contain virtually no carbs. Eggs are a good source of fat / protein and adding some natural fats (butters, oil) can add calories without carbs as well.
  • An FYI as well, the "Calories Lost" display that most machines have can be VERY misleading for the elliptical. They are on average 20 - 40 PERCENT inaccurate from the actual calories burned. This isn't to say they aren't a good workout (I personally find them to be the "gateway drug" of running due to the low impact on…
  • Macros: 50% Carb - 30% Protein - 20% Fat - 1460 calories per day (Base calories, not including calories to eat back from workouts -- Usually I am around 1800 - 1900 Calories per day) Current measurements: 5'9 177 - ??% body fat Work out: M: Jogging (3 - 5 miles) T: Exercise Bike 1 Hour (Moderate - High) W: REST Th:…
  • Agreed -- I know things like Wings and Fries aren't ideal for diets, but I'm also realistic in knowing that I will eat these foods from time time (smaller portions no doubt to stay in my limits).
