  • Welcome everyone!
  • @katdanash -- I'm betting those short burst aerobics are really good for you!!
  • My NSV for the week is a big one for me. I went to Epcot at Disneyworld Monday and walked over 13,000 steps per my Fitbit -- but even more importantly, I lived to tell the tale! Moving around slowly today but moving nonetheless!
  • Hi! I've considered WLS but haven't gone there yet. I have some other health risks -- I have a propensity for blood clotting -- that, like you, make it a little more tricky to have the surgery. But more importantly, I know that WLS is only a tool. It won't help me figure out why I eat the way I do -- the emotional and…
  • f Wonderful! Thanks!

  • Great NSVs one and all! Little or big, it all adds up! You might want to think about them the next time you're making a food choice......
  • I really feel everyone's pain in this thread and appreciate the wisdom shared. One of my buddies says she feels "rotten to the core" because of her obesity. I've really been working hard at not letting my feelings of failure and shame about my weight overshadow the many successes I've had and the good things in my life.…

  • Weight bias and stigma are ubiquitous in our society. From time to time, I have the opportunity to speak publicly about it, and many well-meaning folks (not the people you ran into at Costco!) just simply don't recognize weight bias, even when it's right in front of them. They don't notice the fat-girl jokes on the sitcoms…

  • You're doing great!
  • @katdanash -- your NSV made me grin! You go girl!
  • @AH_rhymes_with_FLY -- Thanks for the info! That's great to know! I think we may start with Epcot. We really only have one, possibly two, full days to go to parks. Anything other attractions in the area you'd recommend that might be good for a half-day adventure?
  • @jrsdls06132008 @katdanash -- welcome Jeremy and Kathy! Congrats to you both for working at taking charge of your health! Whether you weigh yourself or not, or lose or not, you'll find support here.
  • @bevkidd1 - "I just do me" is great advice!!
  • @jltheis7 - Wow! You're right -- amazing how healthy changes build on one another!
  • Great NSVs! Especially the feeling better in yourself one!

  • @bevkidd1 - hi! Sorry you're feeling that way. Sometimes when I think I've had a "bad" week, and the numbers on the scale aren't cooperating, I'll think about non-scale measures. For instance, you said you tried to watch what you were eating. How many times in your life have you not even thought about the quantity or…
  • @eringurl33 -- good luck! Try to remember how far you've come!
  • @kezz2325 welcome! I've been exactly where you are now! What has worked best for me is to abandon the idea of a diet that you're either on or off. Instead I've made many small changes, one at a time, so that they've become closer to habits. For instance, cutting down on one non-nutritious food at a time. Or substituting a…
  • @michelleperkins1422 - Welcome!! You'll find support here! Don't hesitate to reach out.
  • I have avoided amusement parks for years too. I'm headed to Orlando in March, and haven't decided yet how I'm going to handle it. I've lost a lot of weight but still have a lot to go. Totally get where everyone's coming from on this!!
  • Welcome Wanda! Congrats on your success! You ARE worth it!!

  • @slaunderville - I think there's also a Starbucks and a Subway right next door -- at least if you're staying at the Marriott Courtyard on 20th Street.
  • @slaunderville -- Are you familiar with Whole Foods grocery store? Your hotel is only 5 blocks away from one on the George Washington University campus! It's not the cheapest place to shop. But they carry great fruit and veggies, salads, organic foods, etc. i usually shop once a week at the closest one to my house. I…
  • Hi all! Some of us are recording new weights on the February goals chat board. Looking at them reminded me of two things that have helped me to keep working at weight management and maintain my weight loss (or at least most of it!). The first is that any week I don't gain is a good week! I can gain a lot of weight really…
  • @slaunderville - where will you be staying?
  • @bevkidd1 -- congrats!!! That's great news!!! Getting and staying healthy is a much better motivator than any number on the scale!
  • @slaunderville, if you want any ideas for places to eat in DC, I might be able to help. I've lived in the DC area for a long time. Just let me know!
  • You'd think they'd be our rock bottom, but all that shame just causes us to eat more. It's tough to break that cycle.
