It could be greater trochanteric pain syndrome. A physiologist can show you some exercises.

Rowing on the water.

Well done!

I was at a gathering of people who don't know me well and would not have seen me frequently over the last year and a half (I'm over 20kg/45 lbs down). The guy who takes photos asked to take my photo as I have a nice smile. I must have been invisible before....

You've told him you don't like being slapped. He has done it again. I would talk to his manager (or equivalent). If you remain silent the trainer will think it's all ok.

Check out the Polars. V800, A300, Loop, and the older models. H7 HRM. Best to check their website to see what features suit you.

I use a real bike on a bike trainer with a bike computer and speed&cadance meter. Best of both worlds.

Ich spreche ein bischen deutsch, aber ich lebe in Australien. Mein deutsch ist sehr schlecht. Veilen Gluck.

My goals are to strengthen all of my body so that I don't get injured while increasing exercise. I walk most days, dragon boat 1-3 days per week, some cycling, some rowing, and some hiking. In recent years I've had plantar fasciitis which is now fairly well healed, and I have had greater trochanteric pain syndrome for six…

I noticed my shadow as I was walking the other day. I no longer sway from side to side when I walk.

I'm wondering how many times per week I should be doing strength training and if something like dragon boat paddling or boxing training counts as strength training? I have lost over 25kg and still have around 35kg to go. I thought it was time I incorporated strength training. I used kettle bells for the first time and…

So smiley! You look great!

Actually, I really like that my partner has increased his exercise and is losing weight (without counting calories). It means that he is coming along with me and when I reach my goal we will continue to eat well and go on to have active lives together.

Get a raincoat. As said before there is no bad weather, just inappropriate clothes.

Dragon boat paddling. You can keep your feet flat.

Glycemic load is important if you have diabetes.

I hate it when people comment on my weight at all. The one person who never used to make any comment told me I look normal now...

Well put and so true. People look really interested until I tell them what I have been doing for the past 400+ days.

I'm in my 40s, have lost 28 kg and still wish to lose 34 kg. I'm happy to connect with anyone interested in health and fitness.

If you ask for advice and then people give it, maybe you could say thanks!

You could check out Motivational Interviewing for health behaviour change. I've used it to discuss oral care with expectant mums and it's very person centred, but you guide the person towards the behaviour eg discuss going to the dentist to have a tooth filled. You don't tell them anything. Rather you draw out their story…

I vote for Polar M400 too. DC Rainmaker has reviewed it and if you go to the polar site you can see the updates that have happened recently.

They say to walk like you have somewhere to go and so you could talk but not sing. I suppose you could also think of it as needing to get to the train station on time. Walking is always good, and it can be transport. If you have a few regular walks you could try completing them a little bit more quickly over time. There…

If you set your MFP profile to sedentary and allow the Fitbit adjustment, you can eat the calories you earnt by moving throughout the day.

A recumbent exercise bike is very gentle for your back and knees, so you can get your heart rate up without risking injury.

You could check you tube for Jamie Oliver's meals. He often makes healthy and tasty meals. I use the Total Wellbeing Diet books as they have recipes that are balanced, healthy, tasty, and easy to follow.

Hi. I'm a social rower and was wondering about heart rate training while using the Concept 2. Usually I just hop on the rower and row for thirty minutes in zone 4, but I'm not sure if this is doing anything more than burning calories. If I do race, it's usually over one km. Can you explain a bit about heart rate training…

Thanks for sharing such an inspiring story. I felt pretty happy when I visited a former workplace where I sat next to a woman who was very slim and who never exercised (but was generally active), and she proudly told me she was walking twice a week. I started my weight loss at that workplace and went for a walk at…

I normally set the damper on 4, aim for 22 spm, and try to keep the split below 2:30. For me that means I would have trouble talking in sentences. The dragon boat drills are short sprints with rests in between, so I could burn more by going for a bike ride. I think the burn would be higher if you are doing some pieces in a…
