The off month is maintenance. The theory is that when you reach your goal you have also shifted your set point and so won’t really need to count calories. It’s very slow, but having lost and gained 30kg I’m ready to try a different approach.

I’ve started a four weeks on followed by four weeks off based on Dr Nick Fuller’s book. He calls it Interval Weight Loss and it is about protecting resting metabolic rate while losing weight. I won’t really know if it works for me until I’ve been following it for a bit longer, but it’s based on evidence and encourages the…

I’ve been decluttering for the past three months, and one thing that helped was going from a mindset of saving because I could see a future use for an item, to asking myself if I could do without the item. I’ve tended to make the decisions as I’m putting things away or looking for things. If I can’t find what I’m looking…

There was a study a while ago that looked at a pattern of two weeks calorie restriction alternating with eating to maintain. It was published in 2018 and called the MATADOR Study. Although the study looked at men, there might be some useful information for you here —> https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5803575/

I’m an Aussie gal in my early 50s! I have plenty of weight to lose. I live in Adelaide, and would love to be friends with any Aussies or Kiwis! I’ve lost about 6kg so far this year.

For the first time in about three years my blood pressure was down to 120/80 when my doctor checked it last week.

A really quick and effective calming technique I use is ‘the breath waltz’. Breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold for four seconds, breathe out through your mouth for eight seconds. Do this three times and on the third exhale also tap your leg. It works in traffic, in meetings, anywhere really.

I’m finding my morning and afternoon commuting walks easier and faster.

I’m following a 5:2 plan that is basically maintenance on the Mediterranean diet 5 days, and two days in a row cutting carbs to 50g/ day and calories to 1,000/day. The diet is put together by a nutritionist and a cancer researcher. For me I think it will make it easier to transition to maintaining my weight loss over the…

I’m following a version of a 5:2 diet. The restricted days are high protein, low carb, low calorie. It’s quite doable and effective so far.

I restarted about a month ago and have lost about 3kg so far...If I could keep losing at that rate I would be very happy.

Thanks. It occurred to me this morning that more people seem to be reactive than a couple of years ago.
-
Thanks. I’ll check it out.

Thanks!

Yeah. If I could delete the thread I would.

It isn’t a fad diet.

Thanks for looking into groups for me. I have done my research regarding how safe it is to eat using the plan I mentioned. The Mediterranean way of eating has been shown over and over again by researchers to be healthy for mind and body. The low carb days still allow 50g of carbs and about 1,000 calories, also validated by…

Mediterranean most of the time, but currently trying lower carb (still whole foods) two days per week.

I log every day and have an open diary to friends. I try to follow the Mediterranean style of diet. I'm happy for anyone to add me as a friend.

A few years ago I lost 30kg in a year by eating less and exercising more. Then 25kg came back. I think it will be easier to restrict food intake half of the time, and I will get to eat at maintenance half of the time. I would really like to hear about anyone’s experience with this protocol.

I started losing weight without trying too much for about a year, but my weight started creeping up again in the past year. That’s why I’m addressing it now. I suppose I won’t really know if it works for quite some time.

It’s been a while, but I’m trying the MATADOR study protocol of alternating two weeks at 67% of maintenance and two weeks at maintenance. My macros will be different from the study macros as I have other considerations besides weight loss.
-
I started the two week at 67% of maintenance alternating with two weeks of maintenance energy intake at the beginning of this week. The science looks good, and it seems easier than the 5:2 etc type of diets.

I started counting calories on two days each week. I’ve opted for 800 calories and I’m finding it doable so far. I’ve read more widely than the two authors mentioned so far, and the science does seem to stack up on the positive side for this pattern of eating for weight loss that is sustained, and it has other metabolic…

I’m about to start the 800 calorie version. Friend me!

I’m over 50 and have plenty to lose. Happy to make new friends.

Five days lower intake and two days maintenance is quite painless. I’m starting to lose weight again, and I’m definitely eating healthy food all of the time with small treats on weekends.

I do like the look of what you’re doing. It looks like it would fit in with life better than restricting all of the time.
