The 2 Day Diet

I’m trying yet again to lose weight. This time I’m trying The 2 Day Diet, not the 5:2 diet. So far it seems doable, but I would like to connect with like-minded people. Rather than trying to describe it, it’s probably better for people to look up the protocol themselves.

i think you will find most of us do not subscribe to any particular diet.
i eat what I want. 7 days a week. staying within my calories the majority of the time.
that includes eating out, and cookies.
I Still lose weight.16 -
"Diet 2 days a week, eat the Mediterranean way for 5"? But isn't Mediterranean...a diet?6

I looked it up. "The original 5:2 Diet." Well, it does sound fairly similar, with a bit of a low carb element thrown in. I don't think the 5:2 tacks on the Mediterranean diet part, though, but I could be wrong about that. I really need to read more of that 5:2 book collecting dust on my shelf...
As callsitlikeiseeit said, you probably aren't going to find a lot of people here getting on board and will likely get some pushback (just letting you know). Special diets that arbitrarily want you to eat (or not eat) specific foods get that a lot.
The closest thing to a support group I could probably find here would be like a 5:2 group. I know there's a Low Carb one too. I'll see if I can scare up some links.6 -

"Diet" is one of those many words with two or more different meanings.
Diet: the combination of foods you eat
Eat a healthy diet for a long life.
Diet: a particular plan of food designed to reduce weight
Follow the cabbage diet and lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks!
The "Mediterranean Diet":is a particular way of eating, not a diet specifically designed for weight loss.11 -
Okay, yeah..so nothing on 2 Day but here is a 5:2 group:

and here is the Low Carb forum:

Maybe between those two you'll find what you're looking for.

Thanks for looking into groups for me. I have done my research regarding how safe it is to eat using the plan I mentioned. The Mediterranean way of eating has been shown over and over again by researchers to be healthy for mind and body. The low carb days still allow 50g of carbs and about 1,000 calories, also validated by cancer researchers.

Fad diets usually don't work long term.4

@HelenWater You've been here almost 10 years. You know the drill. If a two day diet was going to work for long term weight stability we'd all be doing it. The best diet is the one that improves your health and leads to weight stability.
If you don't know the road ahead it's best to follow someone who's already been there.9 -
You're just gonna get pushback here in the main forums.
I'd agree to go to one of the special groups.
Lots of people do variations of intermittent fasting, and that's all this is.
Good luck.7 -
Yeah, I'm no authority on what is or isn't a fad diet, but this sounds more like the alternate day/ 5:2/ IF types of ways of eating, which isn't necessarily fad IMO (although I'm fully aware of random claims on the forums and social media about how IF is "magic" and it alone makes you lose weight and cures diseases, which I agree those particular claims are bogus.)
However, if someone personally finds limiting eating to certain windows of time easier to maintain calorie deficits, who am I to say they're wrong?
I've considered trying the 5:2 plan before because I like the idea of eating at maintenance for 5 days, but didn't like the 500 calories, two days a week idea. Lol
I think people are thinking this is more like one of those "Drink Kale Smoothies for 2 Days and Lose 7 lbs!" diets and it's not.
Either way, hopefully it works well for you OP. It sounds interesting.4 -
Yeah. If I could delete the thread I would.5

@helenwater, I just did a quick scan of the diet. Could you get support from the carb cycling group? That’s kind of what it sounded like to me. As I said, I just did a quick scan, but I didn’t see anything at all that looked unhealthy about it. Just 2:days of high protein, low carb, then 5 days of healthy eating. You would still need to count calories to insure weight loss, but if that way of eating helps you achieve your goals, go for it!
I can’t support your making an effort to do this, as I already gravitate towards high protein, high fat, low carb eating, and I personally try to include more carbs in my meals.
But I support your effort to get healthier in the way that works best for you.

Don't take it to heart - you are just getting 5 seconds of most responders attention and there's huge and mostly instinctive (rather than thoughtful) pushback on irregular eating patterns and even the word "diet". Pretty odd when the majority of people on here came here to diet!
I don't see anything unhealthy in your plan at all and no reason not to give it a trial.5 -

Thanks. It occurred to me this morning that more people seem to be reactive than a couple of years ago.
