I think we have to wait for Polar Flow to be updated to version 2.3.

Thanks @veloman21. The M400 seems very good, and it sounds like it would be good for rowing. I did use my Edge 500 once in the dragon boat, but with it not being on my wrist it was a bit awkward. I did like seeing where we had been and it seemed pretty accurate. I imagine the M400 would be very good for bush…

If you say what is important for you it will be easier to let you know what band might suit your needs.

You could have a look at the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet.

It sounds similar to here (South Australia). I also don't have air conditioning. There are days when the dogs don't get a walk and there are days when I carry them a bit. I found out that one of them won't walk in the rain and had to carry him for about twenty minutes! I don't understand why people post unhelpful comments,…

The dogs seem to enjoy being carried. I have the opposite weather problem. It's very hot here and the dogs run around until they're tired and then run into the shade and refuse to move! Good luck in changing your habits. It's not easy, but I bet you'll be hitting that 10,000 steps most days within a few weeks!

1) You don't commute, so you could walk for 20-30 minutes at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day. 2) You could set an an alarm to go off every 30 minutes and walk around for two minutes - walking from top to bottom and back again or taking your dog out should do that. 3) I've carried my dogs for part of a…

The loop is quite sensitive so I put it in my pocket when I'm mowing the lawn to avoid too many extra steps. On the whole I really like the loop and Polar Flow, and the H7 HRM works with their Polar Beat app too. It took me a while to work out how to put the loop into flight mode. This is useful if you're doing something…

Curry! Stir fry! Casseroles! Pies! Also, having things in combination can be helpful, eg I don't really like rocket or watercress, but mixed in a salad with pear, walnuts, Parmesan cheese, and a little bit of dressing makes all the difference. Regarding fish, if you can find a market or other place that knows about the…

Yep. I use Polar RS400 for dragon boat paddling and other cardio, but I do like the Edge 500 on the bike to feed back speed and cadence as I also use a bike trainer if it's raining or much too hot outside.

My name on Garmin Connect is Polly274 and I'm happy to connect with anyone who is interested in health and fitness.
-
Thanks. It sounds very good. It would replace everything apart from my Garmin Edge 500, and I think the Mio Velo would help with that! I'm in no way an athlete, but these gadgets keep me honest.

The evidence shows that being active throughout the day is beneficial even if you run for an hour each day. The Vivofit gives a nudge when you are inactive for more than an hour. You can get get a HRM for the Vivofit, but I use a Polar RS400 as I like that the Polar site gives feedback about the session. You can add…

All activity trackers have different algorithms to interpret movement. I look at trends, not exact numbers. @veloman21 The M400 looks pretty good! Does the inactivity alert stay on the screen until you walk around a bit, or does it just flash on the screen and then disappear quickly?

DC Rainmaker has reviewed the fitbits, and plans to review the Up3. It might be worth having a look at what he says and looking at the comments as people report their experiences with the product reviewed.

I wonder if it's because of riding position. I used a Polar HRM for my last ride (as my Edge 500 has stopped recording calories if I use my Garmin HRM, and I'm trying to work it out with the folks at Garmin) and had heart rate stop recording after a while. It was an undulating ride and when going up hills I fold up rather…

You can synch Polar Flow with either Map My Fitness or Apple Health and then link to MFP then workouts should transfer to MFP, but hopefully the direct link between Polar Flow and MFP isn't too far away.
-
When I workout on my elliptical, I put the Vivofit on my ankle (connect the small/large bands together if you have larger ankles like me). It won't track while on your wrist if you're holding on to something. [/quote] What are the results like?

Thanks!

I went for a leisurely bike ride yesterday and I think the great thing about cycling is that the fitter I get the harder and longer the ride becomes. It happens naturally for me. For accountability I use a HRM so I can make sure I'm working harder than when I take the dogs for a walk.

I use the H7 HRM strap with Polar Beat app on an iPhone for a lot of my walks. It will give a little summary of the training benefit of the walk and a calorie burn. The app asks for your age, sex, and height to better estimate your calorie burn. It also shows a map and tells you the distance walked.

Vivofit 2
-
I would vote for Vivofit2 for the reasons above, and you can add a HRM if you wish. In addition it is ok to swim with the Vivofit or Vivofit2.
-
Couldn't agree more. I'm a masters rower and the fittest people in the club sweat! Rowing rocks!
-
Try Vivofit.
-
Using a good quality HRM will help with calorie burn estimation. When I use a Concept II I use heart rate to guide my session, and for me that means over 600 calories per hour get burnt! Getting back to the main point, the rowing machine will help burn calories, and if you do it right you will get much fitter. I've seen…

Runtastic

I rowed for 8 years as a masters rower, took a couple of years off due to foot problems and just about to get back into it in the next few weeks (hopefully). Rowing is the best sport in my opinion. I would like rowing friends too!
-
The first Vivofit will be dropping in price as newer models have been released. It's worth a look.

I didn't know you could calibrate. That's great.
