This is perfect in my opinion. The people around me who care about me have never mentioned my weight, but have taken me on nice walks or invited me to join them in an activity. They have also given positive reinforcement for healthy behaviour and no response to unhealthy behaviour. If someone mentions my weight gain (or…

South Aussie here. My ticker shows where I go dragon boat paddling. I also walk the dogs, cycle a bit, and do some weights. I'm Polly274 on Garmin Connect. I'm happy to connect to anyone intersted in health and fitness.

Thanks Shannon, that's all great to hear! There is hope for me! BTW the photo in my ticker is a photo of where we launch the dragon boat for paddling.

There is no bad weather, just bad clothing. I have a very good raincoat and unless it's hailing we get out there!

My little treasures are a bit the same., but I still count my slow walks with them as exercise ;-) and with two terriers it is not a straight forward walk!

I really like the Polar Loop. I like the mobile app because I can see lots of information presented in a concise way, and yes I have had a greeting a few times in the morning. I've had a "good morning" and a "hey you" :-) ...and yes I do like the little celebration for reaching the goal. I've also had a "time to move". I…

If all you want is accuracy, a bracelet, and a display then Polar Loop or Garmin Vivofit will do what you want. I use both and like different things about each. DCRainmaker writes very good reviews of the these kinds of products so it could be worth your while to check out what he has to say. Regarding accuracy: I don't…

I'm motivated, have over 40kg to lose, and take an interest in my friends. My diary is open to friends, I try to follow dietary guidelines, so I eat a variety of food and plenty of it. I've been losing about 3kg per month. I use Garmin Vivofit and am happy to connect to all who are interested in health and fitness. I am…

Yes. There are studies that show sitting for more than 30 minutes at any one time is not good, and sitting for more than a certain number of hours per day is a risk factor for heart disease and diabetes. Sorry, I don't have the studies handy, but you can find them using a search engine. I use a Polar Loop to tell me how…

I walk the dogs on most days. I'm also using Vivofit as Polly274. I'm happy to connect anyone who is interested in health and fitness.

If you want to sync your workouts with MFP then Garmin (Ant+ HRM) could be the brand for you as Garmin Connect now talks to MFP. If you want something simple that gives heart rate during the workout and a summary at the end (and works while swimming) the Polar FT4 could be the one for you. A HRM with Bluetooth will work…

Polly274 on GC - all connections welcome - on MFP and on GC.

Mostly mine syncs, but yesterday I lost a 25 minute walk :-( The walk I did back in the opposite direction a few hours later did sync :-/ One bit of good news (that doesn't quite make up for lost data) is that I could manually add the activity using a bit of a guess for most fields but heart rate data is lost :-(.

7,200 kilojoules (metric in Australia) is about equivalent to 1,700 calories.

I would guess that as social creatures we like to hang out with people who have similar values. People who smoke feel comfortable with people who smoke and that behaviour is normalised. I think the same could go for other aspects of lifestyle, so it makes sense if you are exercising to get fit and eating to get healthy you…

I eat about 7200 kJ / day and eat in line with dietary guidelines, so fruit veg meat fish dairy cereals oils nuts. I'm on this journey for at least another year and have been losing about 3kg per month. I eat more if it seems like a good idea and exercise most days. I use Vivofit and my name on GC is Polly274. I'm always…

I use a Polar RS400 and H1 HRM to keep me in the HR zone I want when I use the Concept 2 rower. I think it's really a running watch, but I suppose it works well for any steady state cardio work. The RS400 works out your "own zone" each session so that you train in the most effective zone for you that session.

Thanks veloman21. It would be handy for information to flow both ways as I could keep Runtastic apps connected to MFP too.

Hi there, I'm polly274 on Garmin Connect. I've been using Vivofit and Polar Loop for a while and like both, but the integration with MFP is really handy. I'm happy to connect here and on Garmin Connect.

Hi Andy, I'm in Australia and my diary is open to friends. I have decided not to join a gym, and currently my main exercise is walking the dogs. As I get fitter and in shape I plan to start rowing again. I'm happy to be friends with anyone interested in getting healthy.

My diary is open to friends. Happy to have new friends. I strive to eat a diet in line with guidelines, so usually eat plenty of fruit, veg, dairy, oils, meat, fish, eggs, and for my own enjoyment I drink wine and coffee. I log every day and expect to be doing so for at least the next year.

I haven't gone for a swim with Vivofit yet, but I have with Polar Loop and it came up as very active. I'm not sure about calorie burn with the activity tracker. I used a Polar FT4 (+ H1 HRM) to track calories for the swim.

All so inspiring! I love riding a bike because it makes me feel like a child again with the freedom to go anywhere and everywhere!! I haven't been further than about 9km or about 30 minutes, but it definitely gets easier each time.
-
I use a Vivofit too, and if the calories from an activity are in Garmin Connect they will sync. It seems if you manually add calories burned to MFP, GC will not give a positive credit unless you then go and outdo those manually added calories burnt. I hope this makes sense. I think it integrates best when food goes in MFP…

Hi there, I'm in Australia too and try to walk the dogs every day. I am happy to be a walking buddy!

Hi there, I'm 47 and striving to get fit enough and in shape enough to row again. I log every day. Please feel free to add me as a friend! The more the merrier!! See http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1320847-official-get-friends-thread for more information about me.

Thanks for clarifying the point about entering exercise. Does this apply to Runtastic activities that automatically upload to MFP too?

I looked at about three months of logging in MFP where I have used manual entry of exercise and Runtastic automatic uploads and worked out how the net calories/kilojoules relate to my particular weight loss.
