  • I have an app called restaurant, & nutrition guide that lists Cracker barrel, and their nutritional info.
  • I agree. I can get on mine multiple times in one day, and the bodyfat fluctuates as much as my weight does. I know my weight gain throughout the day is all water, but my scale tells me it's fat.
  • There are online calculators that go by your measurements, but they aren't real accurate, either. They do work better than the scales. Calipers are usually fairly cheap. You can get them for less than $20.
  • The scale weight is usually pretty accurate. I had to make myself about 4 inches taller to have it tell me what my calipers read. That worked for a while, but now it's off by about 5%, again. Maybe I will have to tell it, I'm 6'4" to get a proper reading, now.
  • I've read many articles that have said that the only time that one can gain muscle mass at a deficit is when one first starts an exercise program. Since most articles are written for experienced bodybuilders, by experienced bodybuilders, most articles are geared towards them, in which case, they will state that one can't…
  • Theoretically, if you want to burn fat stores before a workout, it is better to eat protein pre-workout, instead of carbs. For fuel, your body needs sugar. Carbs are the easiest way for your body to get sugar. By eating carbs pre-workout, your body will turn to these for fuel first, then when they run low, it will turn to…
  • There are many different pills out there that do different things. It may take a while for your doctor to find the right one for you. I was severely depressed about 5 years ago. Working out wasn't helping for me, either. Sometimes the anger helped me with certain lifts, but my workouts quickly fizzled, and I lost interest.…
  • Mint chocolate chip ice cream shake: 1/2 cup skim milk 2 to 3 cups of spinach. (there is a recipe for freezing your spinach on bodybuilding.com that will make it thicker, and more shake-like. 1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder. (vanilla looks better) 1/2 tsp peppermint extract sweetener to taste (optional) 1/2…
  • Do whatever won't burn you out. Some good rules to follow are: Give your muscles at least 48 hours to recover from your previous strength training workout. You may need to go with lighter weight at first, and a little easier routine to get the proper form down, and to avoid excessive muscle soreness. Get plenty of rest,…
  • I was doing ATG squats, before. My physical therapist told me to only go to parallel. As far as the smith machine goes, I think it would have a worse effect on the lower back, than the knees. I can force my feet forward more on the smith machine, keeping my knees behind my toes, which was what my therapist recommended. For…
  • http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/chest-training-mistakes-7-deadly-sins-of-chest-training.html Here is a link to an article on mistakes associated with chest training. Is there a reason for the pushups, instead of using weights? Pushups are a great exercise. They work your core better than bench pressing will, but as others…
  • I will back up what all the others have said. While not all knee pain has the same causes, Leg extensions are some of the worst exercises you can do for your knees. My physical therapist, and the personal trainer I was working with had me doing squats, concentrating on keeping my knees behind my toes. The personal trainer…
  • Some of the best suggestions that I can give: Go in with a plan. pre-write your workout, look up proper form, plan how many sets, reps, and how long you will rest between sets. Bodybuilding.com has some great routines to follow. Either take a notebook in with you to write down how much weigh you actually did for how many…
  • That skim milk also has protein, potassium, vitamins, and calcium. It is much better nutritionally than Diet soda.
  • I think the idea of drinking water is much more important than "how you drink it'. I think too many people over-think these things, and are trying to make money selling stories, studies, or articles. I think the extra caloric burn to warm the water is negligible, and the supposed bad effects of drinking cold water are also…
  • I don't know... They can pay gym fees, and try to hook up with a muscle bound jock, or they can pay an internet dating website, where they can have some computer nerd, pretending to be a muscle bound jock trying to hook up with them. :-) BTW... I met my wife on an internet dating website.
  • My diary is open, and when I'm not working out, cooking meals, or spending time with my wife, or kids, I'm usually on here, T-nation.com, or Bodybuilding.com looking for new workouts, nutrition information, or recipes.
  • If you are a female, it will be almost impossible for you to "bulk up". You lack testosterone. You do need to gain muscle, which will lead to more tone, and less noticeable fat. If you want to get rid of the "skinny fat", do as others have said, and eat more protein, and lift more weight. Body weight exercises are great if…
  • I was seeing a physical therapist for my knees. They had me doing body weight squats, Bavarian lunges, monster walks, and side steps with a band, and kick backs. They also have me stretching my quads, and hamstrings really well, and doing bridges. They told me my glutes were weak, and I needed to do exercises that…
  • I woke up at 3 am this morning to workout. That's how much I hate going to the gym after work.
  • I'm 5'8", and went from 215 lbs down to 153,(5 years ago.), Had marriage problems, suffered with depression, then up to 226, and am currently at 196 lbs. There are quite a few guys on here. Most of us are pretty quiet.
  • I've got one like that. I had to make myself 3 1/2 inches taller for it to give me the same numbers as my calipers were giving me. It was working okay, before, but now my calipers are giving me about 3% less body fat than the scale, again.
  • You can use it however you would like. I like to make pie out of it, by mixing it with sugar free pudding. I've read quite a few articles that recommend it before a workout because of the BCAAs in most protein powders. According to the articles, they are supposed to help you retain your lean muscle mass. I like using it…
  • That looks more like a receipt from a tanita scale. Some gyms use those, others use a hand held device, others use calipers. Calipers, if used by someone that knows what they are doing would be the most accurate out of the 3. The best way is to use the bod pod, some universities have that option, but I've never used it.
  • I never really liked Diet Coke, and I usually avoid it, except for on occasion when I'm at a restaurant, and don't feel like water. There are caffeinated alternatives to Diet Coke, that are probably better for you. I believe green tea has caffeine, Coffee,(Which I never acquired a taste for.), or crystal lite-energy. There…
  • How big do you consider "big calves"? Mine measure about 16", at their thickest.
  • If you have shin splint issues, I would recommend stretching your calves prior to trying any running. I usually stretch my quads, hamstrings, and calves prior to any running. If I don't stretch enough, I suffer shin splints, as well. HIIT can vary for everyone. I have remained at a fast walking pace on the treadmill, and…
  • I use 3 for pancakes. 1/2 cup of oats 1/2 cup of cottage cheese 3 egg whites. You may try it without the cottage cheese to see if it works. You may want to use more eggs, though.
  • The best way to increase metabolism is to increase lean muscle mass. If you are heavy, you are probably carrying around more muscle mass, though. As you lose weight you will also lose some muscle. The trick is to retain as much muscle mass as possible while you lose weight. Lift weights, and try to eat lots of lean…
  • I understand from a lot of people who do intermittent fasting, that the 30 grams per meal is a myth. Many of them are consuming 70 or more grams per meal, and are seeing the same results as those consuming 6 small meals per day.
