  • You'll get conflicting arguments from nutritionists, and bodybuilders. Most nutritionists say .8 grams to 1.8 grams of protein per kilogram of lean body mass, (I think). Most body builders recommend around 1 gram of protein per lb of lean body mass. To answer the OP's question. It is just fine to go over on your protein,…
  • I've had it both ways, but without the brown sugar. I like to throw a tablespoon or two of walnuts, and a dollup of lite whipped cream on it, as well. It's also good with canned, or frozen peaches, strawberries, or pitted cherries.
  • With a bench you can do bench presses, shoulder presses, flyes, and some ab work. You could use a piece of furniture, like a strong coffee table, or hope chest for the bench presses, or you could do pushups, or get some bands, and work your chest with those. Shoulder presses can be done standing, and will work your core…
  • This time around it was a financial incentive. My employer is running a program where they will reduce our insurance premiums based upon healthy living. We get so much off for not smoking, so much for BMI, and some for VO2 readings on a fitness test. Plus they are having monthly weigh ins, and drawings. I won a $100 gift…
  • The problem is, who decides what "screwed up" really is? To many people raising children in religion is "screwing them up", to many, it is "raising them right." There are many people out there screwing up their children, but they are raising their children in the way they believe is "right". Should we give up "Freedom of…
  • If you have a strong enough food processor, or blender, you could leave out the milk, or reduce it down to less than half a cup. It should make it thicker in consistency. My son did a presentation in school the other day for a marketing class on Yonanas. It's a device that you just put in the frozen fruit, and it comes out…
  • After an intense workout it is recommended to get some fast acting carbohydrates into your system. You need the carbs to get the protein to where it is supposed to go. Your post workout meal is supposed to be your most important one. You may also want to eat another meal about an hour after that, as well. Depending on your…
  • My mom used to make homemade eggnog. She used: I egg about a quarter cup of sugar, (I'm sure you could replace that with artificial sweetener.) 1 tsp vanilla. nutmeg, (I'm not sure how much) blend for about 30 to 45 seconds add 2 cups of milk blend for about 10, or 15 seconds. That's what I grew up on. I could never stand…
  • As soon as I got home from work, this morning, I ate some casein protein pudding with an oatmeal pie crust, and some lite Cool whip. Then I brushed my teeth, and went to bed. I still woke up weighing a pound less than I did yesterday. It doesn't matter what time you eat, as long as you eat fewer calories than you consume,…
  • I have sleep apnea. Losing weight lessened it a bit, but the only thing that worked to stop my snoring is the cpap machine.
  • Bodybuilding.com has some pretty good routines. I believe for toning you will want to stay in the 8 to 12 rep range. If you get bored, or if your muscles get used to your routine, change it up a bit, by working your muscle in a different way. I believe it is recommended to change your routine about every 6 to 8 weeks.
  • What are your goals? Fat loss? Strength? or Building muscle?
  • As long as they are consenting adults, and not abusing the welfare system, I don't have any problem with letting people live how they want. I have heard of several polygamists in Utah, that are marrying 13, and 14 year old girls, and many will abuse the welfare system. Those need to be prosecuted.
  • I used the food processor today to make my spinach ice cream. I used 1/4 cup skim milk 3 cups spinach, 1 scoop vanilla protein, 1/2 banana 2 packets of splenda 1/2 tsp peppermint extract 1 tbsp semisweet chocolate chips. Then I topped it off with 2 tbsp of lite cool whip, and some sugar free chocolate syrup. It tasted just…
  • I read an article the other day that mentioned doing negatives. At the end of your workout, add a few sets of negatives with a dumbbell, or if you have a workout partner you can use a barbell. Use a heavy weight that you can't do yourself, either use your other arm to help you lift it, or have someone else help you on the…
  • You can find ideas on different routines, and workouts, how to use proper form, etc. on sites like Youtube, and bodybuilding.com. If you have a smart phone, you can also install an app called Jefit that will give you sample routines, workouts, and videos on how to do certain exercises, and which body parts they work.…
  • I don't drink coffee, either. I do drink a lot of water. I'm currently supplementing with BCAAs, and creatine, and the water seems to help. Frozen fruit in your protein shakes will help make them tastier, and thicker. I usually add half a frozen banana to mine. Along with some frozen spinach.
  • It's my understanding that starvation mode doesn't usually set in until your body fat is really low. I wouldn't worry about it, too much. I would suggest getting around 150 grams of protein per day, to maintain lean muscle mass. I'm 5'8" , and currently eating around 1600 calories per day. When I exercise, I try to do a…
  • There are many different body types out there, and many of us have different goals, and ways of achieving fitness. For most people, the calories is the biggest thing to worry about for weight loss, but depending on your body type, and methods for fitness, your macros can make a big difference in how you achieve your weight…
  • I lift a lot of weights, and I'm at a pretty good caloric deficit. While some of what I have been following may be "bodybuilder myths", it does work for me, and I'm a little less worried about losing too much muscle mass with the higher proteins. :) Thanks.
  • I'd probably starve on what you eat, but if it works for you..... I would recommend less prepared foods, and snacks, more natural foods, and proteins....But that is what works for me.
  • I believe tabata timers are set for 4 minutes, 20 seconds high intensity, 10 second rests. Any physical exercise will help. The longer you workout, the more calories you burn. I believe you can download HIIT timers that you can set to beep at whatever you want. Do what works for you.
  • Added sugar aside, I've read that there are nutrients that have been removed from instant oats, in order for it to cook faster. Instant oats, are better for you than most cold cereals, but steel cut oats are the most nutritious.
  • I take a huge, empty, old cottage cheese tub to cook my oatmeal in at work. It is usually large enough to keep the oatmeal from boiling over the top. I like to add some frozen fruit, cinnamon, nuts, sweetener, and lite whipped cream.
  • Your abs look great the way they are, but If you really do want to have more definition, it will probably require a lower body fat %, or an increase in overall muscle mass. Like others have pointed out, compound lifts will give you the core work that you need to work your abs, and it will add definition everywhere else, as…
  • Bodybuilding.com has quite a few workout routines listed. (Not all of them are designed for bodybuilders.) If you have a smart phone you can download an app called Jefit that will track your workouts, and time your rest sets. It has a list of exercises, both free-weight, and machines that you can add to your routine.
  • I've read both pros and cons to fasted cardio. On the one hand fasted cardio is supposed to burn fat stores because you don't have any food in your system to give you fuel. The problem is that you can lose some muscle mass, as well. The latest articles I've read have advised for people to at least get some BCAAs into their…
  • I've got a Planet Fitness about half a mile from my apartment. I have a 24 hour fitness about a quarter mile from my apartment. I belong to both. I like the cardio equipment better at Planet fitness. (They have more televisions, and channels.) I like the weights better at 24 hour fitness. My youngest son plays football, so…
  • You can put strength training in under cardio. It will give you an estimated calorie burn. The BCAAs from the whey are supposed to help maintain muscle mass, and reduce soreness. (BCAAs are recommended pre-workout for this reason.) The carbs from the banana can help fuel your workout, but most bodybuilders also recommend a…
  • Put half a banana in your protein shake, drink it before your workout. Then put the other half in another shake, and drink it after. :)
