I assume it is one of the Optimal Ketogenic Living groups? I was on one then dropped it, they were a bit too dogmatic. I believe they have somehow translated the appropriate protein range for nutritional ketosis to be on the high end of protein for everyone. I don't agree, I think there is a range for a reason. Some people…

All non-fiber carbs get converted to sugar in the body, so I don't particularly worry about it as long as the food itself is low carb.

Funny and true!

All the regular Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese is kosher, but there is some additional certification required for it to be Kosher for Passover. It was a complete guess on my part as to why the 1g stuff might be popping up again now. I looked today and everything here still is 2 g including Kraft, Aldi, and another store…

Eat more fat. Percentages don't matter. You are on target for both carbs and protein, and the point of fat is to eat to satiety. If you are new to eating this way, don't worry about calories right now.

You started 10 days ago and you have lost 7 lbs.? You are not stalled. Weight loss does not occur daily or in a linear fashion. Keep doing what you are doing and the weight will take care of itself.

I think it's great to have people doing different "flavors" of low carb here. I would agree than 100 g carbs/day or fewer is definitely low carb. You don't have to be ketogenic to do low carb, and there are certainly benefits of eating 100 g carbs/day compared to 300+ like many people do. OP, you can start by jumping in…

It's sad/maddening, isn't it? When you mention low carb to people they immediately discount it as something they can't/won't/don't need to do.
-
Oh, I agree. That's why I said "appear to work for weight loss." The fact is you can lose weight on low fat, but keeping it off is a whole 'nother issue. I don't think low fat is healthy or sustainable. I wish I had a time machine and could go back 25 years and tell that to myself. I got myself up to well over 300 lbs. in…

JUDDD (Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet) is an alternate day fasting diet with usually around 500 cal in the "down day". It can be combined with low carb, but usually not. http://www.johnsonupdaydowndaydiet.com/

Thanks, these look good and I have all the ingredients. I am going to try them with stevia + erythritol as the sweetener.

LOL, I can only imagine. But I will hazard to guess that people eat them to "increase their fat percentage" thinking that adding fat somehow negates that they ate too many carbs. It doesn't. Percentages don't matter, grams do. Fat bombs should be used for satiety when you don't want to eat carbs or protein. They aren't…

I wonder if it is possible this 1 g carb version is Kosher for Passover and that's why it is out now? I will be looking at stores and stocking up if I find some.
-
I disagree. Low carb is a healthful diet for anyone. Low fat can appear to work for weight loss, but I really question the long term healthfulness. I said in another thread recently that when thin people get sick, their diet is never questioned, but it probably should be. The book "Grain Brain" by David Perlmutter has some…

Right, that's the whole point of bullet proof coffee. You get some fat in for satiety, but have no insulin response whatsoever. Adding protein powder or cocoa powder makes it simply coffee with stuff added to it. It is no longer BPC.
-
Exactly. There is no set percentage of fat for something to be "keto".
-
No, it does not have to be a special organic coffee. That's just the guy who invented it trying to make a buck.

MFP is just a tool. You need to educate yourself about diabetes. I recommend Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution.

Phinney and Volek in The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living say that when you are losing weight your blood cholesterol may go up because your fat cells store some cholesterol, and when you lose weight the cholesterol from those cells enter your bloodstream. The amount entering the blood is less than the amount that…

There used to be, but it broke a while back when they switched the forums to the platform they are using now.

Sodium is not dangerous for most people, in fact too little can cause more problems than too much in the average person. Please don't extrapolate the particular dietary advice your doctor gave you to treat a specific medical condition to a recommendation that everyone should follow.

I have tons of low carb baking supplies (all the ones you mentioned and more.) And I bake....hardly ever. I don't think that's a bad thing! Lots of reasons why I don't bake more: not worth the calories, not worth the carbs, not worth the effort, not worth eating something sweet just to eat something sweet and then "having…

I can find the Bragg in the health food section of my local grocery store. I buy a gallon at a time, it is shelf-stable for years. Any natural food co-op or Whole Foods type place should have it or a similar product as well. There are other brands that are raw ACV with the mother. Doesn't have to be Bragg specifically.…

The straw as well as rinsing your mouth helps with the tooth enamel. I dilute with quite a bit of water (1.5 tablespoons of ACV per 8 oz. water) so the final product is quite a bit lower percentage of acidity than the ACV straight, so I personally am not concerned about affect on any other mouth/throat tissues.

I don't know as I avoid soy as well. I generally use almond flour for breading, but have seen recipes for pork rinds and/or grated Parmesan cheese (the kind in the green can) as well. However, if you have soy flour you want to use, I know George Stella's recipes use it quite a bit http://stellastyle.com/site/recipes. Here…

DH and I use the Bragg apple cider vinegar (raw, unfiltered, with the mother). It is a "live" probiotic food as others have said. We mix about 1.5 tablespoons in a cup of cold water. I also add some berry flavored liquid stevia. I drink with a straw to avoid contact with the tooth enamel as much as possible, then rinse my…

My husband does. I did for a while and lost a few pounds pretty quickly, but then kinda got tired of it. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Xylitol can be good for some applications and it is also beneficial to dental health. I have some, but I prefer to use an erythritol + stevia blend (homemade) in baked goods. Xyltiol also has a bit of a higher glycemic index than erythtriol and some calories, and also in some people can cause a bit of gastric upset, so…
