I haven't tried that flavor, but others like it aren't sweetened. You would have to try it and see.

whitelaw714, I don't care if you trust my source or not. I will take my personal experience of living with PCOS for 30 years, my own education (PhD in endocrinology and postdoc in pharmacology, I also worked at a pharmacy school for almost 5 years) along with the understanding that the healthcare system which you are…

Blood sugar101 has a pretty good summary of diabetes drugs: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/17977284.php Sounds like Actos may actually cause fat cells to grow ("mechanism same as Avandia")?! ETA: Yup, more info here: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/18554346.php

Great progress!

Almost all the brands of cream cheese changed their carb counts a few months ago, including Aldi's. Too bad, because they are a lot less expensive.

Pure alcohol is not a carbohydrate. It has 7 calories per gram. Your body processes it first, so you will put your fat-burning on pause while your body processes the alcohol but it shouldn't kick you out of ketosis. There are plenty of sugar-free mixers available for hard alcohol.

Real sugar would make me sick at this point. Try chicken or beef broth. They also make sugar-free Powerade (Powerade Zero). Also diet gingerale (Hansen's is good if you can find it).

I am going to have a low carb reuben for lunch because of this thread! Making low carb thousand island dressing and I've even going to bust out the Thin Slim low carb bread. I don't think I have any rye left, so sour dough will have to do.

Welcome!

My Costco has them right now, but I have some in my freezer for when they run out. I go in phases with them. Currently off most nuts right now.

Here's a recent thread: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10103889/net-vs-total-carbs-advice-needed

Cripes. I guess I'm lucky I can eat 1400 cal/day and lose with PCOS/IR. I guess the metformin does help in that regard, though.

There are plenty of grab and go keto-friendly foods. I am doing about the least amount of cooking I have ever done at the moment. Protein shake for breakfast, lunch might be cottage cheese and pre-cooked bratwurst or other sausages, greek yogurt, hamburger (pre-cooked if you like), hard-boiled eggs, sometimes a frozen…

I eat low carb, high fat, so I rarely get hungry even when I'm eating 1400 cal/day for weight loss. High fat is very satiating.
-
Exactly. Many people, unfortunately, would rather take a drug than fix their diet, and the doctors give them what they want, usually.
-
Why do these threads always have to degenerate? The OP was sharing a success story. Let's all be happy for them.
-
Yes, I always retain a few pounds and wonder why I'm not losing, then I get a big whoosh of 2-5 lbs. they day TOM arrives.
-
Sounds like you did great. At the beginning if you are hungry, eat (as long as it is low carb). Don't worry about how much you are eating. The idea is to get the carbs out of your system. And, as FIT_Goat says, if you like veggies, eat them. Nothing wrong with low carb veggies on this WOE if you want them.

One item to note is that Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution and his book The Diabetes Diet do limit protein a bit more than other low carb plans, and prescribe the amount eaten at each meal. I have both books (DH is type 2) but haven't looked at them recently (and they are not accessible at the moment) but for diabetics he…

You're using the wrong terminology. Many people do low carb without calorie counting (which is I think what you meant to say instead of CICO). Many people who do low carb eat low carb, high fat, moderate (adequate) protein (aka, LCHF or keto). High fat is very satiating, so if you listen to your hunger signals it can be…

Definitely.

Dragonwolf, have you ever considered a fat fast? (3-5 days @ 90% fat, 1,000 cal/day)? I haven't but would consider it if I had a serious stall.

Thanks for posting.

Low carb, metformin and a calorie deficit has worked for me.
-
Are you using the IIFYM calculator? I tried that one earlier today and could not get it to work for me. Try the Ankerl keto calculator, it has been spot on for me: http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/

For Irish soda bread you could make some almond flour biscuits and add some caraway seeds for flavor.

Here is info on Cold Thermogenesis on Jack Kruse's website: http://jackkruse.com/cold-thermogenesis-easy-start-guide/ I personally would never do this owing to a medical condition that I have, however.

I'm not sure about the hunger, but when you become keto-adapted a lot of times the outward signs go away. So, if you haven't changed the actual grams of carbs you are eating (percentages are irrelevant, as if you eat more calories such as after exercise they should come from increased fat and not an equal increase in all…

Out of curiosity, what calculator are you using to compute your TDEE? Are you very tall and/or very muscular? I personally need to be around 1400 cal/day or so to lose.
-
Also, it sounds like 40 g carbs/day is the lowest you've done? On another board I'm on a number of people say they don't lose above 20 or 25 g carbs/day. I think that's why Atkins has people start at 20 and slowly move up from there. Might be worth a shot.
