Dave Tate's 'so you think you can bench' video helped my bench massively. For that matter, so did his squat and deadlift videos from the same series (helped my squat and deadlift that is - not my bench  ).

My wife bought me these for Christmas - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RP3KY8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Expensive, but flexible, and they helped me prolong my SL5x5 progress. I really liked having them at that stage. However, I don't use them now that I'm on the 5/3/1 program. I'm not sure they were…

I used to, but the old ladies at the Y complained that it gave them hot flashes.

Totally taking off my converse next time I do chins at the gym. Thanks!

Hot humid day, 40km cycle followed immediately by 15km run. Only took gatorade on the cycle, didn't take anything on the run, not even fluids. Dumb. 10km into the run I stopped sweating and hit the wall HARD. Got confused. Took wrong turns on a run I know like the back of my hand. Thankfully i had just enough of my wits…

I have never heard the term 'trophy wife' used in anything but a derogatory sense. It necessitates that the man has won her through means other than her loving him. Otherwise, surely the term 'wife' would be sufficient. Or even 'beautiful wife', which pays homage to her beauty, without reducing her to a prize to be earned.…

It's funny. If you want to be an engineer, you surround yourself with smart engineers and learn from them. If you want to be a doctor, you go to a medical school and surround yourself with doctors. If you want to be a lawyer, you surround yourself with winning lawyers. You wouldn't go to a clown school for seven years and…

10g of protein and 25g of carbs per meal, perhaps. Even then that's quite low protein by general MFP membership standards. Asking for lean body mass loss. Unless you are going on a diet consisting almost solely of bacon (and don't get me wrong, that sounds awesome) I don't see how you'll do it. I certainly don't see how…

When you make your 5x5, you increase by 5lb next time. When you miss, you keep the weight the same. When you miss 3 times in a row, you take 10% off the bar and work back up. Once you've deloaded 3 times, you switch to 3x5. Once you've deloaded 3x5 3 times, you switch to 1x5. Once you deload that 3 times, it's time for a…

I think it took me about 6 months to go through 5x5, 3x5, 1x5. Though I think I transitioned late to 3x5 and had more deloads than I should have before I switched. And you have the right attitude. Just lift more than last month, whether it's more weight or more reps on the same weight. I figure everyone has to go through…

Nice work man. I went through 5x5, then progressed to 3x5 and on to 1x5. I'm small build, so finished around - Squat - 1x5 142.5 lb Bench - 1x5 142.5 lb Row - 1x5 135 lb OHP - 1x5 102.5 lb DL - 1x5 285 lb (with tested 1RM of 315 lb) I've moved on the beginner Wendler 5/3/1 program, and am continuing to make progress. I'm…

Technically correct, but totally unnecessary and you won't have a like to like comparison if you start comparing to other lifters like this. Count the bar, and what's on the bar, and nothing else. Or be prepared to be embarrassed when someone asks you to demonstrate your 240 pound squat and you proceed to load 145 pounds…

It really is this simple. But I second the sentiment that you should eat more. I wouldn't want to maintain that deficit long term. Eat at a 500 Cal a day deficit for steady, sustainable weight loss while minimizing the chances of a crash and burn binge session or worse still just falling off the wagon altogether.

I think his responses are inexcusable, and it's very disappointing to see someone that seems like such a likable guy acting like a total douche. However, I'd also like to see the post where "she decided to explain it to him politely", because it is conspicuously missing. Without seeing it, we can't know, but generally when…

By the way, I suggest you stop trying to learn to be happy on an intellectual level. My personal experience has been that the more I learn, the closer to nihilism I get. Once you start trying to comprehend yourself and your place in the universe you start to realize just how inconsequential you (and indeed all of us,…

Now that's what I'm talking about. Finding the joy in everyday life.

Happiness is simply the state achieved when the perceived positives in one's life outweigh the perceived negatives. I say perceived, because reality is irrelevant. One can be unhappy as a billionaire on a yacht in the med surrounded by beautiful people that love you, and one can be happy living alone in a hovel eating…

Benefit of doubt given, I don't see a point in allowing the other thread to spill over here, and answers here could help others. Frozen and tinned vegetables minimize waste that can make fresh more expensive. Tinned tuna is a great value protein source. Frozen swai makes for a great lunch (just thaw in cold water and throw…

I figure it's like cycling. It never gets any easier, you just go faster, further and higher.

Agreed. I went to a my first and second yoga lessons with my wife last week. I was very surprised by how much of a sweat I broke. And I'm no slouch when it comes to working out.
