I'll be in Worcester this weekend if anyone else is going and wants to meet up, PM me and I'll give you my cell so we can coordinate.

^^^ This! Rule of thumb is your pace should allow you to carry on a conversation. If you can't: SLOW DOWN. If you're getting shin splints it could be a number of factors. You're probably going to fast and too far to quickly, or you're heel striking. Read this:…

I started running, as a hobby, at the age of 42. My friends thought I was nuts and at times, I though I was too, but I have run multiple 5k's (two more this weekend) and am training for my first 10K in June.

Outstanding! Thanks for taking the time to post this! Mad respect!

I've never had ITBS, but I do love my Grid: http://www.tptherapy.com/Shop-Online/All-TPPT-Products/The-GRID-Foam-Roller.html

I run three times a week or more. Feel free to add me!

The C25k program is the best way to get into running. I was in the same boat as you about a year ago. I had plateaued and nothing seemed to work. I despised running, but I also knew it was the best way to burn calories. So I started with the C25K and by week 4, I actually found myself enjoying it! I now run 3-4 times a…

To quote Nike: Just Do It. Your best friend is routine. So the more you get out and do something, even if it's walking around the block, the more it just becomes part of your routine. As for my initial point, when you wake up and don't feel like taking that walk or going to the gym, make yourself do it. I've found that…

I'm right over the border in Rhode Island
-
I could do a color run!

Wow...that looks like an effing hard one! haha. I'm such a wimp!

There is nothing wrong with running and walking in between. They're called intervals and they are a great way to get your endurance up and increase your distance. As far as effort, if you are unable to carry on a conversation, then your pace is too fast. This could mean your pace is really slow to start off, but eventually…

Uggh...so bad news. The 80's race is no longer showing up. Not sure if it was cancelled or what.
-
Then I'm there too! Now I need to find my Devo hat.

Ohh man, I've heard about the Heartbreak Hill race! I'd love to do this (not sure if I'm up for the half), but I wanted to run the Old Sandwich Road Race 10K the weekend prior. Decisions, decisions. However, if we wanted to do this as a group, I'll skip the OSRR in lieu of this one.
-
Haha Stripe! I was leaning towards that one too!! You can never have enough 80's!!
-
I have to say, I swore I'd never do a half, but now I'm kind of leaning towards it LOL
-
I was actually a lifter who took up running, but please feel free to add me if you'd like! (Same goes for anyone else).
-
I've heard every six months and I've heard 300-500 miles. Personally, unless you want to fork out $125+ every six months, I'd go with the mileage.
-
Yea, registration closed real quick for that. I wanted to run that one myself.
-
FYI: I registered for all three races, so I'll be doing the Worcestor race on the 9th.

I'd really like to get a group event together for April. Below are some races/walks that I found through RunningintheUSA.com. If there are any I missed or something that is a favorite of yours, please let me know. 4/5/2014 Saturday Race the Runways Brunswick, ME 4/6/2014 Sunday Francis Farm 5k Rehoboth, MA 4/13/2014 Sunday…

I am doing the Worcestor at a minimum, but I'm really thinking of doing all three. I have no idea why as I have no chance of placing in any of the races to win the Tour de Patrick, but I'm better off when I don't think about things LOL

Welcome Denise! Wow, what an inspiration!! I've been reluctant to try a 10K but you are inspiring me to shoot for at least a half!! Regardless, of whether you're walking, running, or crawling, you're out there doing it! I look forward to participating in a race with you one day soon!
-
Welcome Kim! So glad you wanted to join this group! Good luck on the surgery and recovery and I can't wait until you're back in the game! We've been friends for a while and you are one of my inspirations as a runner! I've not done anything over a 5K but I'd love to do more and am planning at least one 10k this year. When…

Welcome Stripe! I ran across a quote and I may be misquoting a bit: "I often hear someone say I'm not a real runner. Some runners are just faster than others. I've never actually met a "fake" runner". You're doing the races!! Hope we can help you achieve that goal of seeing more of New England!
-
I'm good with the race in Worcestor if others are. I'm slow, so I don't expect anyone to stick with me! haha.
-
There's an awesome 10k coming up in June: The Old Sandwich Road Race. It follows a colonial area road (unpaved) from Plymouth to Sandwich.

You have bad runs and good runs. But the key may be consistency. There was an article in Runners World recently about maintaining your running fitness through the winter months. Basically, if you're not running three times a week at least 20 minutes per run and once a month have a long run, you're going to suffer after a…

I'm not an expert on the history of weight lifting and working out, but I am pretty sure nobody has just walked into a gym and knew exactly what to do, unless they did their research ahead of time. Everyone has to start somehwere. Your gym should hopefully have an orientation to get you familiar with the equipment. If not,…
