  • Congrats on running your first 5K! You can most certainly do another race before the one in October! However, there is nothing wrong with just continuing to train in the meantime. As to how often, that's kind of based on the individual however I do know that Runner's World recommends at least 3 times a week for at least…
  • Yep, some of us are still here!
  • I'll speak from a runner's standpoint. I much prefer Runkeeper. I've used all three and I have had issues with all three on my Android, but since I've switched to the dark side (iPhone), Runkeeper has worked like a dream.
  • haha yea, that annoyed me. I got behind the "baby stroller" brigade at the start. I was finally able to get past them though. I really liked that course and loved how fast that last hill was. I'm going to do this one again next year!
  • I guess we missed each other, but what did you think of the course?
  • Yep, I will be there! I probably won't get there until around 8:20 or so, but I will be there!
  • I don't listen to music when I run outdoors, but when I'm forced onto the treadmill I have my favorites I like to run to: Bark at the Moon - Ozzy Wasted Years (live version)- Iron Maiden Going Out in Style - The Dropkick Murphy's Fantasy - Aldo Nova Although they are have slow sections, Layla by Derek and the Dominoes and…
  • I get up at 4:30 to run. It is a bit of an adjustment, but I got used ot it really quick. First, you can't burn the candle at both ends. So you have to ensure you get to bed at a decent time the night before. Secondly, when you get up drink a 16oz bottle of water. That will not only wake you up but it will get the organs…
  • I have one. Love the data you can get from it. My only complaint would be it's kind of clunky. You have to pay about an $8 subscription for the data, which didn't bug me much but I've heard people complain about that too. As for the rash, you might experience it the first week or so. Get some alcohol swabs and wipe it down…
  • So I came here because I thought the title was "Pissed on myself this morning" and was thinking "Man, at least someone else was as drunk as I was this morning!" Seriously, a 1/2 pound is nothing. You could sweat that off in no time. So move on and keep plugging away. If the scale keeps creeping up, then maybe you…
  • I was hoping you were, but after spending a career in the military it wasn't an uncommon site for some women to get pregnant so they'd miss a deployment. So you nevah can be sure!! But I'll second that alcohol advice. That was always the hardest for me. If I had a bottle in my hand (or for you more refined people, a glass…
  • Congratulations on quitting! I finally quit 5 years ago after smoking for 25 years and I have never regretted it. So what to do? I've seen tons of advice here. Some really good and some I would say was questionable. So the best thing I can recommend is this: Look at it as if you are starting exercising. It's a lifestyle…
  • Before I get going, I'm stating my usual disclaimer: I'm not a professional, this is my opinion based on my experiences and nothing more. A lot of times soreness and pain are due to undeveloped muscles. If your knee is hurting it could very well be an IT band issue. There are stretches you can do, foam rolling helps and…
  • I did the C25K program a year ago but I run regularly, so if you want to add me, send me a FR!
  • Way to go! Congrats!!
  • I'm in New England, so feel free to add me if you'd like.
  • You're always going to have some aches and pains. If you've got a good fitted pair of shoes, that helps. If you've been running on a treadmill since you've started, then the road was probably a little shock to the body. I loathe the treadmill myself and only use it when it's too icy outside. If you can, avoid the sidewalks…

  • I'm signed up too!
  • I hear you! But if you run with me the first time, I guarantee you it will be an ego booster! haha. I run like a turtle running through peanut butter. ;-)
  • I don't understand why you wouldn't make goals. Granted I'm an anal retentive male appendage, but if you think about it you have goals in everything you do. Unless you just walk out your door every day with the mindset that you'll just end up where you end up at the end of the day. I'm not sure what you're looking to do,…
  • Three words: Iron effing Maiden!! Seriously, I don't listen to music when I run outside but I have to when I'm forced on the treadmill. I usually go for the "longer" songs as I really get lost in them. Examples: Layla - Derek and the Dominoes Wasted Years - Iron Maiden (live version is the best) Free Bird (Live) - Lynrd…
  • I'm on 467 as of today.
  • The bridge run sounds like fun. What is the date?
  • I wish you could too! But I think we all should do Kim's first race back as a group!!
  • I'm a big fan of the vanilla myself, but the chocolate is good. With that said, unless someone here has tried EVERY single protein on the market, then you're going to get opinion. Trial and error is the best way, but that gets expensive. Be on the lookout for the sample packs and try those. It's a matter of taste and more…
  • Nice. I probably will tomorrow. I'm heading up to Boston tonight to do a social event with this group. But I I will see you on April 6th!
  • That should be a fun one. Hope you have fun with it.
  • I am so glad to know I'm not the only one who works out to "Eye of the Tiger"! I'd listen to "I'm Sexy and I know it" but well, let's face it...I'm sexy and I know it, so what's the point of the music? ;-) Thanks for the smile!
  • I have never seen this race before. Interesting. It's like a Tough Mudder for wimps like me!
  • Coming from a person who absolutely loathed running at one time, you can learn to love it. I mean, I really hated it. I actually had a gun pointed at my back and was told to run and I argued with the guy (true story). THAT is how much I hated running. I started off with the C25K app almost a year ago. Even then I wasn't…
