  • I was OK with this post until someone mentioned McRib. And then I got a little throwup in the back of my throat.
  • That is very cool! I had a similar moment about 2 months after I quit smoking. I walked up the steps to our break room at work and realized I wasn't out of breath.
  • 3 oz. of solid white tuna mashed with a 5oz. Haas avocado. Stir in the juice from 1/2 small lime and 2 0z. leftover chopped spinach. I might have it spooned over Tostitos 3 queso chips. They add 150 calories but I've got 800 left to play with today including dinner.
  • A couple of ozs. of beef jerky is less than 200 calories.
  • Oven Roasted Cod with Ginger & Lime Sauce Ingredients * 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice * 1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce * 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro * 1 tablespoon chopped peeled fresh ginger * 1 tablespoon minced shallot * 5 teaspoons light or regular olive oil * 2 6-ounce Cod fillets (each about 3/4 inch thick)…
  • Raw....bloody....still quivering.
  • Congratulations! I smoked my last cigarette at 8:47pm, Sunday night, 4/1/2012 after 48 years. I used the patch and a prescription from my doc for Zyban/Wellbutrin. I was less jittery than I anticipated too. As with you I think it had a lot to do with attitude. Aside from being healthier, I love the fact that I don't have…
  • Greek yoghurt would work and would taste good if you like the taste of greek yoghurt. Avocado is an excellent substitute. Granted, lots of fat but it is fat that is good for you.
  • Portion control works very well and allows you to eat what you want within reason. Invest $10 - $20 in a kitchen scale that converts to both ozs. and grams and weigh everything you eat.
  • I quit on 4/2/12 after 48 years of smoking. I used the patch and also got my doc to write a prescription for Zyban/Wellbutrin to help with the craving and/or anxiety. There was an improvement in my appearance and especially a healthier color in my face. Situational cravings can be really difficult. For me it was driving my…
  • Usually I work too late to make going in the evening practical. I like to workout in the morning because the gym is less than a mile from my job. I get up in the morning, dress in my workout clothes and pack a gym bag & hanger with the clothes I need for work. I shower right at the gym, dress in my work clothes and head to…
  • I typically do not eat back all of the exercise calories that I burn as I can't be certain that the numbers are truly accurate. From reading various posts here and elsewhere, it seems that my New Balance HRM, the cardio machines at my gym and MFP are inherently flawed when it comes to calculating calories burned.
  • What a shame! Having support from an online community like MFP is great, but, it's certainly not the same as having close friends and family behind you. My wife and I have been married for 28 years and have always been there for each other. We both quit smoking on 4/2/12 and even managed to be civil to each other, lol. Now…
  • As mentioned before, the defining difference is your depth of desire to quit. I quit on 4/2/12 after 48 years and smoked up to 2 packs per day the last few years. I used the patch and a prescription from my doc for Zyban/Wellbutrin to lessen craving and anxiety. Situational cravings can be difficult to handle like wanting…
  • At last! A voice of sweet reason and common sense. Everything you say completely resonates with me. It is so refreshing to hear somebody speak about indulging in a favorite snack without it being the end of the world. Thank you!
  • Thanks for your reponses. I do my cardio last. Sorry if I was misleading by listing it first. I am not trying to build larger muscles but would like greater strength and endurance. Are the two mutually exclusive? If so, I would lean more towards endurance rather than strength. I know just enough to know that I don't know…
  • This looks really good. Thanks!
  • The calories relected in recipe builder are only as accurate as the information entered in the food database. Since most of that is user submitted I usually double check against another site like livestrong to ensure accuracy. When I plugged in 4 oz of chuck roast MFP said it was only 140 calories. Although I would like to…
  • I wouldn't get so caught up in the 8 glasses per day thing that you are forcing yourself to consume that much. If you are not thirsty you are probably adequately hydrated. I make ice tea from Bigelow's Green Tea with WIld Blueberry. It has great flavor and doesn't need sweetener.
  • I am 63 and don't know if it is harder to lose or not when one is older. I never really tried to do so before now. I quit smoking 4/2, began working out for the first time in my life on 4/9 and joined MFP on 12/6. I do know that if I stick with the program of regular exercise coupled with a reasonable diet (Hate that word)…
  • According to bootsdiets.com you burn about 130 per hour. As a pianist I burn about 162 per hour. Do you think if we play allegro we burn them faster?
  • I use Silk uinsweetened organic soy milk. I can use it in both smoothies & oatmeal, cold cereal, etc. If I want to adjust flavor or sweetness I can just add fruit or honey. Most of the products I see seem to range from 2.99-3.99 a carton, sometimes less on sale
  • This is going to be tough. These are not necessarily in order of importance. 1. Led Zeppelin 2. Cream 3. Jimi Hendrix 4. Beatles 5. Janis Joplin 6. Aerosmith 7. Beach Boys 8. Marvin Gaye 9. Guns n Roses 10. Nazareth
  • I wouldn't give up your wine if you really enjoy it. As long as you are using up more calories than you are taking in you will lose weight. I never make bad choices after a glass or two of wine. At my age, I just fall asleep.
  • Roasting vegetables with a little olive oil is the best! It's heart healthy and packs more flavor for minimum effort than any other method other than, possibly, grilling. When you steam vegetables add flavor and "mouth feel" by drizzling a teaspoon of exra virgin olive oil over them and a bit of balsamic vinegar. It's…
  • I like greek yoghurt but not in my morning shake. It makes it somewhat sourish and off-tasting. I use a combination of fresh and frozen fruit. Currently, fresh blackberries, strawberries and frozen blueberries are my favorites. Add 8 oz. of Silk, unsweetened soy milk and blend. The shake is never quite enough to make it…
  • After 48 years of addiction I quit smoking successfully. (4/2/12) Started a fitness/workout program. This is not the first time I did this but it is the first time I did it for more than one month. (4/9/12)
  • My Anytime Fitness gym is $33 per month. You commit to a 1 year contract and after that you are month to month and can cancel anytime. After 1 month your key fob gains you entrance to any AF in the world. The fee gives you 24/7 access to all cardio & strength training equipment, bathrooms, of course and showers. If you…
  • If you want "healthier" replace the butter in most banana bread recipes with apple sauce. Using apple sauce means you can cut back on the sugar a bit too. The bread is denser and chewier than the standard recipe but very tasty.
