Are you honestly saying that the US is obese because salads cost more? I think it's most likely because obese people prefer burgers to salad. For the record there are exceptions. I am on the obese spectrum and would prefer a salad...but you know what I would like with my salad? Fries and a McFlurry. Oh and a sweet tea...so…

Do you have a recipe for this? It sounds awesome

I have bad allergies too and haven't actually tried local honey for it yet. Have you noticed any improvement?
-
I've heard if you buy raw and local it's good to help with seasonal allergies. Can't say if it's true or not...and no clue if that's a selling point for you. But I'd say try for local and raw.

Yep...pretty certain my dad was never around growing up because of cocaine....not hostess products.
-
lmfao Man I really need to forfeit some weight...
-
This is a great idea. I think I'm going to try this.

I agree that eating healthy is difficult for some (including me). I have figured out I have an unhealthy relationship with food and I'm working on it...with that said.. I don't think you can compare drug addiction and/or withdrawal to healthy eating.
-
I wouldn't be too worried about whether or not the fish you are buying is frozen. If you buy the flash frozen stuff that is good quality it's basically caught, cut, and frozen immediately. Not bad at all.

Toast up some sliced baguette...top with arugula, goat cheese, beets, and some rock salt or kosher salt. GOOD stuff.
-
I'd just try to cut down the amount you're using if you can. If that doesn't work then try the avocado approach.
-
pb&j lately....it's been a lot easier for lunches at work. but outside of the recent trend i'd say mostly chicken and greek yogurt

a 3/4 cup serving of cereal is bs. but its also for that reason that I try to avoid cereal as much as possible because i will just fill up a big bowl of it and not actually measure anything...and then depending on how hungry I am I may even do it a second time. I've been known to eat an entire box of cereal in 1-2 sittings…

I would assume since its a hormone balancing diet this is doctor recommended?

I like the cheat day approach and have been successful with it in the past so I get the idea. I like to look at my progress on a weekly level. So ideally what I'm hoping for is that by the time "cheat day" rolls around in the week I've had enough of a deficit the rest of the week to give me an idea of what I'm working with.
-
That's what I was hoping for :)
-
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Going to give them a shot over the next couple weeks. They are pretty inexpensive around here and I know they are full of nutrients so I'm hoping I can make them into something I enjoy regularly.

Agreed that it did not come across as derogatory in regards to her financial situation -- just not overly supportive of what she's trying to do...which is eat healthy despite a bad situation. We should be commending her and helping her to do the best she can with what she has.

There is a big difference between "ideal" and "realistic" -- its perfectly realistic. Difficult...but realistic.
-
That looks fantastic. Adding that to my menu soon!
-
Those 2 things are incredibly cheap compared to where I'm at at least. Eggs are minimum $4 per dozen and Tuna I generally end up paying about $2.29 (i buy the solid white albacore)
-
Been there trust me. Good for you for trying to stay on track.
-
@sixxpoint that sounds freakin' amazing.
-
I was actually thinking about doing something similar with tacos last week! Not so much with the black beans but with folding it over and then pan frying to make them crispy. Glad to hear someone else has tried that. I'll give it a shot!
-
Curious about this one -- do you have a good recipe you like?

What is the cost for xylitol? (and yes I know I can google it but i'm lazy). The reason I bring it up is that a few places around here sell a candy that is made with xylitol that is actually really delicious. You'd never know it wasn't made with normal sugar. But just for a small pack of the candy its about $6

I think the fact that you've kept it up and lost that much weight in 9-10 months is great. Keep doing what you're doing!
-
I'm more of a "the more cilantro the better" kind of guy. That sounds awesome. I will add that to my list to try for next week :) Thank you!
-
Maybe not -- but if she really only has $20 (which is entirely possible) isn't it better to TRY to make it at least relatively healthy rather than just eating ramen for the next 10 days straight?
-
I've done it more times than I can count...including right now. I have had 2 good long successful runs where I lost between 20 and 30 lbs each time. The problem is I put all the weight back on both times (and then some...)
