to clarify for a second time, I misspoke and did not mean ONLY 5.5 lbs. I just meant that I lost that much in 2 weeks which I believe was mostly water weight, and then stayed steady or gained .5lb back here and there. this had been going on for almost 2 months. then last week I gained back 3 while away on vacation. So, I…

That helps a lot, thank you. I need to change my perspective instead of focusing on the weekly changes. hopefully I'll see a slight reduction next time I weigh in but like I said above, I am still ahead by 2lbs. so that's something ;)

I like that idea. If I go by TDEE, I should be eating anywhere from 1700-1750 a day. (MFP gives me 1780 when I choose lightly active) I think I will find a middle ground and see what happens. after a couple of weeks, I will adjust if need be.

my first post wasn't too clear I think... I didn't mean "only 5.5lbs" because to me that's a lot. I put "only" because I lost weight the first two weeks and then it stalled for several weeks after. then when I was away visiting family, I put on 3lbs. so i'm still ahead by 2lbs. I only weigh myself once a week. i'm going to…

I have looked up my TDEE. It puts me at 1997 with 3x week workouts. So if I take 15% away, it gives me 1697 calories. Maybe since I am underestimating my activity level, I could possibly be eating too few calories? I don't weigh my food, I try to estimate and I'd rather overestimate calories. I have never been on a 'diet',…

Female 5'6'' 163lbs I'd like to lose at least 10lbs I walk for 30 minutes most days of the week, I do Jillian Michaels' Shred It kettle bell dvd 1/2x week, lift weights and do Pilates and planks. I used to be great at working out every morning Mon-Fri, but I've fallen out of that a bit. So I aim to workout 3-4 times per…

sorry...calories, not pounds. I'm still sleeping I guess!

I agree with you. If you fee comfortable doing so, it's probably easiest to have a conversation with her about it. I think a lot of people think that by providing food, they're providing love. She must not know what it's doing to you. Nicely explain the changes you are trying to make in your life, and also point out that…

I just used your calculator and I love it! It is the most thorough one I've come across. Thanks so much for creating it and sharing it with MFP!!!! It will help a lot of people. :)

my advice for not giving in to a craving is to remember how you felt after you ate too much last time. if it was a bad feeling, physically or emotionally, remember it and hopefully it will be enough to avoid doing the same thing again. also, if it's stuff in your house that you're eating and maybe it's not the healthiest…

Agreed. I don't really log my veggies unless it is the main part of my meal, or soaked in olive oil :) If all you eat are potatoes, corn, etc. that have more carbs, then it's probably a good idea to track those. I'm talking about all the green veggies, onions, etc. Not necessary in my opinion. Veggies are not the culprit…

I found this recipe on Pinterest and it's SO good! I need more of a chocolaty fix, so this always works for me. Blend together: 1/2 cup of Vanilla Soy/Almond/regular milk 2 tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tbsp. Natural Peanut Butter (creamy, and I normally use only 1 tbsp. to keep calories lower) 1 frozen/sliced banana…

Hello, that's great that you've lost weight! Not sure what exercises you regularly do or enjoy, but for myself, I see more definition in my waist when I do pilates. And planks (as many variations as you can do) work wonders too! My stomach still has a trusty layer of fat on it, :) but these things make a difference. So…

You look great!!! Keep up the awesome work!

I was reading some of the posts and I'm sorry some made you feel bad. I'm not sure why people feel the need to insult others, especially on a site that is used as a means of support. I have a problem with how much ice cream or nutella I eat. It's the only thing that really keeps me from feeling my best health-wise.…

I've never tried it, and I never would. But generally reducing your carb intake is not a bad idea, especially if you're mainly eating foods made with a lot of sugar or white flour. I think anything you plan on doing short term will produce short term results. If you focus on eating unprocessed, whole foods for the most…

This isn't necessarily answering the op question, but it's also important to note if your clothes feel looser. If it seems like you're not losing weight, but your clothes are fitting better, than you're losing fat and gaining muscle, which is better than the # just going down.

I am up at 5am and work out for 30 minutes Mon-Fri at home. I do not eat beforehand because I have hypothyroidism and you can't eat for an hour after you take the meds for it. But I probably wouldn't eat anything anyway, considering i'm up so early and sleep is precious. it would take more time to make something quick and…

I think everyone goes through this at one time or another. I would say whatever your favorite food is, treat yourself in moderation. I would go nuts if i really deprived myself from my favorites. For example, my weakness is chocolate. So now, I have a couple of dark chocolate dove pieces with almonds each day. It's much…

Great post, much needed!

Thanks guys!

Thanks for posting, very interesting, and backs up what a few of us are trying to explain.

Exactly!! :)

I look at the calories burned from exercise as "earning back calories". But I don't necessarily eat them all back. It all depends on my appetite. I have MFP set so that I lose .5lb per week. I know that is minimal amount of weight, but I've always been happy with my body, and I have about 10 lbs to lose total. I'd rather…

A few years ago (pre living with future husband) I was at 144-147lbs and I was very happy/comfortable at that weight. (I'm 5'6'') I am currently at 160lbs and trying to lose 10 slowly (the only way I know I will do it). If I can get my weight to the low 150's, I'll be satisfied. My clothes will fit more comfortably and…

That is exactly my problem. From breakfast to dinner, I eat so healthy and can resist the vending machine. But once I finish dinner, I need to have something sweet, preferably chocolate. I started making smoothies with pb, banana, and unsweetened cocoa powder. all in all, it's still a decent amount of calories, but at…

Hi everyone, I've recently committed myself to losing at least 10lbs. I have never gone on a diet, and even though I don't consider what I'm doing dieting, it's still a little difficult. I gained the weight over the course of a year, after moving in with my now-fiance. Diabetes runs in my family, so I want to prevent it.…
