192lbs, 5'7" just started to fit back into size 14 (Target and Old Navy jeans). Size 16 still fits okay, but loosely.

Just starting running a couple of weeks ago and it immediately dawned on me that I need to strength train in my legs. My shins/calves SUCKED. They still do because I'm a beginner, but I've been doing calf exercises like lifts and raised farmer's walks. Thanks for the "rant" because people don't realize that cardio and…

I've always joked with my friends that if you've ever been fat, you have a fat club membership card. Meaning that you can relate to "fat" issues even if you aren't overweight anymore. Congrats on your weight loss!

Found this excerpted from The British Medical Journal in 2008 concerning health myths: "Vreeman and Carroll write that at first glance, some scientific studies seem to support this idea. But just because obesity and eating more meals at night are associated, it does not mean that one causes the other. People gain weight…

I will consider it B.S. until I find academic research to support it. I think the idea is that you run out of calories near the end of the day or some people have a problem with binging at night. Like so many others have said in this thread, as long as you don't exceed your calories, it doesn't matter what time you eat.…

driaxx, I do agree with this. I think it's okay to restrict certain foods in the very beginning as well when you're trying to jump-start your diet change. Sometimes I'll avoid certain foods when I feel like I'm about to binge because just one taste will be my downfall. However, I indulge in certain foods when I know I can…

AGREE. Wholeheartedly. I lost 50 pounds few years ago because I ate the same thing every day and restricted so many foods. Needless to say, I gained about 30lbs back. Now I'm losing weight slowly, but I'm not restricting myself in a psychotic way. I was talking to a co-worker who avoids sugar and bread (who isn't diabetic)…

Great job! =)

Congratulations! What an inspiration. Good job. =)

Damn, that's pretty cold. I understand partners becoming unattracted, but to leave you after you were showing progress? Sounds like there were deeper issues than just your weight. Anyway, congrats on the progress you've made so far! Not to sound cliche, but this is about YOU! If he couldn't be patient with your weight loss…

Amazing! How you look at 233 is how I look at 197....damn!!! You still look great at your highest! ;)

Wow! Congrats! =)

I'm about to use the indoor track at my university's gym for the first time today, so I haven't encountered this problem at the gym yet. I have at the park, however. Constantly dodging ducks, children, and dogs! I know it's a public place and people are there to do different things than jog/walk, but it's annoying how the…

A repeat offense is talking on a cell phone when there are huge signs that say it's forbidden. One time this girl got on an elliptical next to me and not only was it annoying that she was talking while people are trying to concentrate, she was talking about personal, embarrassing stuff. A gym idiot also doesn't wipe the…

Wow, this is GREAT advice, thanks everyone! I've been thinking about getting fitted for shoes and getting my gait "analyzed" lately, so that's something I'll definitely go do!
-
Thanks, doty! I look up to you and your running endeavors. You're a machine! =)
-
True, true. I've stopped doing the elliptical on rest days, but I still walk all over campus all day which kinda sucks. Trying to do my running on days when I walk on campus more so the rest day is actually a rest day!

I weigh myself every morning after urinating, but I only record it once a week (after a month when I first started). My weight would vacillate between 197 - 202 throughout the day, so I only recorded my first loss when the scale finally budged to 196.

The exercise points do seem high, that's why I got a heart rate monitor. I cross-check it with the machine's reading at the gym and both are basically the same. Good luck!

I'm 5'7 as well. My highest was 222 lbs and I felt horrible, obviously. My lowest after dieting a couple of years ago was 169 lbs. I felt pretty good at that weight, but I needed to tone and I still had a good amount of belly fat. I gained weight and now weigh 196 which is also too much for my height. I have similar goals…

Your story sounds almost exactly like mine. I've been exercising for 60 minutes x 4 days a week and counting calories...all for 6 weeks or so and I haven't seen any progress. Getting frustrated, too. I feel you.
-
I worked out 4 days this week and earned around 1174 calories (that I didn't already eat back on those days). I'm figuring that will give me a cushion for Thanksgiving dinner, but I'm not too sure how to log my food, so I probably won't. Is anyone planning to log their food?

Adding you, we're the same age!

Ah, I guess it's close--I have mostly 90s music on my iPod: Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains...I have Depeche Mode and The Cure too...that counts as 80s!
