Teachers on keto
Any teachers on keto in this group? Looking for friends to share stories and advice, like how do you drink water throughout the day while holding it until you can finally go to the bathroom!? You know what I'm talking about! Also, field trips--do you bring your lunch? Teacher Appreciation Week--do your colleagues think…

What's your exercise schedule like?
I've been working out almost every day this summer, as I am a teacher and I have the time. However, I don't think I will be able to work out for as long or as frequently during the school year. My plan was to go to the gym at least 3-4 times a week, doing cardio during the week and lifting on the weekends. It's harder to…

Looking for teacher friends
Hello! I'm not new, but I am looking for friends who are also teachers. I am going into my second year of teaching high school English at a rural school in the South. I would love to have some new MFP friends who know what it's like to manage being a teacher and being healthy at the same time! Feel free to add me and…

Is there such thing as burning too many calories?
You get so much advice from so many people on MFP, it's hard to weed out the bad and hang on to the good. So far, I've heard that you're not supposed to eat back exercise calories because then you won't lose weight. On the other hand, many people say you SHOULD eat back the calories, because technically you didn't eat your…

Losing motivation after a night out
I don't have a lot of "willpower" (or whatever you want to call it if you hate that word) when I am eating out or at parties. I don't have much willpower when I'm at home, but at least I can control what fills my cabinet and refrigerator. A few of my friends have recently become health conscious and they work out a few…

Wanted: 15 bean soup recipe
I have the bag of beans that comes with a seasoning packet, check. These are the only other ingredients I have on hand and I can't afford to go back to the store (seriously, I CANNOT afford it): - garlic cloves - 1 medium onion - chicken breasts - can of diced tomatoes - unsalted butter Does anyone have any good recipes…

Eating away from home
I'm going to a conference at the end of the month and staying for a week away from home. I already attended one conference this summer, and I ate terribly! They fed us well, but the food was really fatty and high in calories. What are your tips for eating away from home? It's almost harder to eat well when lunch is being…

Interpreting numbers--weight and body fat %
I went to the gym today and my trainer took my weight and body fat percentage to compare it to my stats before Christmas: 12/21/12: Weight = 195.4, body fat = 34.3% 1/3/12: Weight = 198.2, body fat = 33.9% So technically I gained 2.8 pounds, but my body fat went down. Does that mean I gained muscle? My trainer says it…

Wrong nutrition info for Tropical Smoothie?
The menu at Tropical Smoothie says that the Hawaiian Breeze with Splenda is 179 calories but their website's nutrition calculator says it's 286. The smoothies are usually 24 oz but neither the menu nor the website specify the size. I don't mean to nit-pick, I just want to know what I should log when the company puts out…

Running: blisters on inner heels?
I've had many a blister before, but that was when I was hiking to and fro to class in Payless flats. I was fit for running shoes last week (pictured in my user icon) and have taken them out 4-5 times since and haven't experienced any problems. However, today I noticed small blisters on the side of my foot, inside of both…

Food for thought: counseling
Posting this in response to a blog I just read: if the option is available to you and you're willing to do it, try talking to a counselor! It can help boost your self-esteem and self-confidence if you are lacking in those areas. You can lose all the weight you want, but you're never going to feel good about yourself if…

Running question: strength train before training to run?
I'm trying to figure out what I should do about training to run. I'm modifying the Couch-to-5K program so I can keep up with it at my own pace. I did run 1 min/walk 2 mins for 10 days and I did one day of run 90 sec/walk 1 min. My shins are KILLING me. People have advised me to do strength training in my legs so they are…

How do you make your sandwiches?
Thanks to everyone who answered my bread question. I have another concerning sandwiches! I love mayonnaise and I used to eat the reduced fat Hellmann's (green cap) but then I switched to regular fat about a year ago. I'm not used to the lower fat kind anymore. =/ I was wondering what I could use to substitute it for taste…

Bread suggestions
Does anyone have any suggestions on which bread is low calorie but also filling? I'm currently eating Arnold's Healthy Multi-Grain and it's very filling but it's also 100 calories a slice. I am cutting calories by not adding cheese to my sandwiches, but I'm wondering if there's bread out there that will satiate my appetite…

Progress, finally! (albeit small)
I finally made some (small) progress: the scale budged! I lost *1* pound! I vacillate between 202-197 and the scale finally read 196 after 5-6 weeks of regular exercise. I also lost ~4 inches total off my bust, waist, hips, arms, and legs! As I said, small victory but as I lose weight/inches slowly, I know it will be…

Non-gym exercising
I use my university's gym and it's going to be closed for the holiday break. I plan on exercising outdoors, like jogging or walking. I burn more calories on the elliptical than I do jogging for the same amount of time. I get REALLY hungry after burning 600+ calories. My questions are: (1) If I burn less calories jogging,…

NSV? Forgot how my jeans used to fit =/
Can't tell if I'm having an NSV or not. My 14 jeans are fitting better, but I can't remember how they felt last year when I first bought them. I started wearing very loose-fitting clothing over the summer because if something didn't fit correctly in the morning, I wouldn't leave my house. Jeans stretch a little throughout…

Newbie! Weight fluctuation
Hello! My name is Susan and I'm relatively new to MFP. I say "relatively" because I joined about a year ago when my friend downloaded the app on my phone. I checked in on and off over the past few months but recently, I've been checking in every day. I don't know if it's customary to post stats (I didn't see anything…
