I believe your question is what is exercise doing for you in terms of weight loss? IMHO... it's creating a calorie deficit that wouldn't otherwise be there. Also, a body composition that is higher in lean muscle, will burn more calories. All of this contributes to your weight loss effort. Can you lose weight without…

You may want to spend 6-8 weeks running at a more moderate pace to build an initial level of fitness. That being said, you are not going to die from sprinting (although I agree sometimes it feels that way!). Sprinting is an anaerobic exercise. You shouldn't be able to do it for long before your breathing makes it hard to…

I knew it! Bump for later

I have been Type I for many years and I actually found MFP looking for one site or program that did everything. It's the closest thing I could find. MFP tracks macros (carbs, proteins, fat). You can add sugar to your macros on MFP as well. As for your blood sugar readings, I take mine with my meter and put the results in…

You know your body so listen to what it says but for what it's worth, I had a similar situation (kind of). I am in month two of Insanity and I did something this past Friday while working out that made my upper back hurt after the workout. I immediately started alternating ice and heat and taking Advil. I almost didn't…

Interesting article... I didn't quite understand what it was saying about how people know how many calories they are eating without keeping track but I could see how some people might get really stressed out about it. There is a lot of research about the negative effects of stress and cortisol on the body, particularly the…

Not a very good article IMHO. I could find you mountains of evidence to the contrary. Is someone that is 10-20 lbs overweight healthier that someone who is not overweight but smokes a pack of cigarettes a day? I would say yes. But to suggest that someone who is 50 or more pounds overweight is healthy just because they…

A couple of things IMHO.. The moves you're talking about work different muscle areas. Free weight squats work a variety of upper leg muscles and engage much of the core. Hack squats on that machine will primarily target lower quads and not much else. I've heard some people say they (Hack squats) can be hard on your knees…

Go on youtube and search "home cardio routine. You'll find all kinds of very challenging cardio routines. You can alternate things like pushups, dips, burpees. There are a lot 10-20 routines that focus on different things so you could mix and match depending on how much time you want to spend each day. You could even pick…

Good advice. Maybe start by tracking everything (and I mean everything) you eat for 30 days. At that point you can start trying to make some small changes to your diet and walk a half mile a day. Each month take some small steps. That Biggest Loser crap is not real life and it's not realistic. Think long term. I've never…

Go for it! You'll be fine. A 5k is a great way to start because it's not an ultra long race. If you need to walk during the race, no big deal. It'll give you some incentive to start now.

Try adding Hershey's chocolate syrup (2 Tbsps=100 cals) or chocolate milk to help with flavor. Honey is good too! Add a banana and/or some peanut butter to help with texture. I have to use a blender or it just isn't good. All of the powders are yukky by themselves. Don't let anyone tell you different

I agree with this ^^^. A little curve is nice too...

On top of everything mentioned above, there is quite a bit of scientific evidence supporting the benefits of regular exercise on brain health. For younger people (say under 40) this might not be a big deal but if you want to give yourself the best chance of a high-quality if life (in the second half of your life), you may…
