Just getting back into tris after a year off, Need to drop 15-20 lbs to get back to race weight. Will be doing numerous Xterra races and one half Ironman in July. Then back to bike racing. Mainly train 10-15 hrs regardless of race distance with a big week of 20-25 (take the week off of work). Right now, just swimming 10K a…

Your calfs most likely have gone into spasms and haven't released. This shortens the muscle. I never stretch, but will focus on trying to work the spasm (feels like a knot) and try and get it to release. If you search TP therapy on google you'll get some ideas. Their products are pricey but you can find alternatives in our…

18:56 last April, two weeks until I give it another crack. I want that average 5:59 so bad. I need no wind and a cool day. They are so painful....

As a point of reference. I would burn about 900 an hour prepping for some of my races. This a hard effort that would be back of the pack in a CAT 4 race, towards the front in Cat 5. I'd say on a gym bike you're looking at 400-500 an hour at the most. Some of my female clients would be about 600 an hour and they are…

I use 100 calories per 400meters as a proxy with my athletes. There can be a lot of admin time at swim practice between chatting and rest intervals at the wall.

As someone who rides hundreds mile a week, I've come to the conclusion they just have a crappy life and need to take it on someone. I stopped letting it bother me, it used to ruin my rides.

Run lots and then run more. Mainly easy sometimes hard. You'll get there it just takes a long time to develop your aerobic base. My first half marathon was something like 2:12 and now I'm running 1:33. It doesn't happen over night. Just enjoy the experience, thank the volunteers when they help you.

I enjoy Sprint Racing the most, last summer I was running shoulder to shoulder with a guy just destroying ourselfs, he surged with about a mile to go and I popped couldn't answer. Turned out we were racing for the last podium spot. I generally start my season with a few sprints before moving to the longer events. people…

When I started running I would double up my socks (thin wicking) which helped. Its related to your shoes and sock combo....just keep experimenting. My GF and I did the Oshkosh Half Marathon a few years ago, I made it through the train tracks she did not and had to wait for the train. Hopefully they have that figured out my…

late March...do it every Spring to benchmark fitness. Would like to PR but not sure the fitness is there yet.

At the sprint and local level, you will see all abilities and all kinds of equipment choices. Its a pretty friendly atmosphere. Any bike will do as long as its USAT legal which basically just means no recumbent bikes. Just read the rules, so everyone stays safe on course. In the process of training for my 3rd Ironman; been…

Tri Shorts, will have a smaller pad...that may help. Smashed up is normal, I guess. Pain or going numb is not....

You should have said 'picking stuff up' isn't a workout :-)

Race cyclocross and triathlon. Do a lot of my training on my road bike. First Race of 2011 is in March! Hard to imagine with 18" of snow on the ground right now.

39-42 is the normal range. Coming off big training days, I've seen 46-48 the following morning if I'm not recovered.

I get in about 7K (scy) a week. 10K in the summer. Car is buried in snow so only one swim this week.

I incorporate Tabata into my training plan throughout the year especially in the fall when racing cyclocross. I believe the original study done by Dr. Tabata was preformed on cyclist but Tabata got the idea from watching rowers train. First thing first, it has a specific protocol. All out effort 20 secs followed by 10 sec…

My calorie goal, daily is 1290. Without training, I have no chance.

Race in the Midwest manly. Being doing Tris since 2006. This year, plan on two sprints, 1/2 Iron man (Door County, WI), and end the season with Ironman Wisconsin. Really need to shed the lbs to reach my goal there. Front of the pack racer, but inspired by the back of the pack. A few bike races and running races in the…
