is anyone doing a spring half marathon or other race?

I'm doing a half marathon on 8th May and just wondering how everyone copes with dieting and training at the same time. I've struggled to eat less since joining in october and constantly feel tired. I've changed my goals to lose 1lb per week and do 60 mins of exercise 6 days per week to allow for increasing mileage.

I am planning to do a half marathon in June. I actually haven't been as hungry since I started training, but I am also really busy. I am making sure I get plenty of protein into my diet. Also, I am doing small meals throughout the day.

Good luck in your half marathon.

late March...do it every Spring to benchmark fitness. Would like to PR but not sure the fitness is there yet.
  • I am training for a full marathon in May (my first full). If you are always tired, somethings off. You either need to eat more and/or sleep more. My mileage is starting to increase dramatically now, and I've found sleep makes a ton of difference. I've also tried to cut out as many processed foods as possible and eat a lot of lean protein. I also am sure I'm very hydrated every day.
Good Luck with the half! It's an awesome accomplishment!

@ashultz9 - I'm far too scared to sign up for a full marathon at the moment, but i'd quite like to do one later this year or early next year, its a massive challenge. I did my first and last half in 2009 and since then have been running mainly off-road races so this will be my first long road race in nearly 2 years!

I've joined a running club and getting swept along with the whole desire to enter races and get a PB!

Good luck with your 26.2 in may.
  • Thanks, this is my first full and I'm terrified. My goal last year was a half and I ended up doing two. I figured if a full is in my future it's now, I'm not getting any younger :) Good Luck to you as well!

how is everyone doing in their training? i'm managing to do a 10 miler every weekend at the moment and averaging 20-23 miles per week at the moment but am increasing by 10% each week.

think i might keep training and sign up for some late summer half marathons or ten milers.

I bought a new gps watch that tracks my distance and pace and have found it really useful so far
  • I'm also planning my first marathon in May. It will be a trail marathon.

I'm a little nervous that for April I will be working 6 12 hour night shifts/week. I'm planning on getting my long run in on my day off.

I put a plan together based on several plans from a couple of sources. It has me increasing my weekly mileage about 10% and adding additional running days periodically. There are some weeks where the long run increases more than 10%, so it reduces several of the short runs. I have a 13 mile run scheduled for Saturday, then I add an extra day next week. In order to help get ready for the trail, I'm going to move my long runs to trail runs. My longest run is scheduled at 20 miles. I have 2 of those. Then the week before the race is a much lower mileage week.

    Good luck loxleys and aschultz9,

    Mike

I have a full marathon May 15th. And probably within the next couple days I will be signing up for a 30K (18.6 miles) as a prep for the marathon.
