Sometimes a stitch (cramp) can result from low hydration. I like the Gatorade solution before the run for the carbs and hydration. I agree about not eating . . . maybe sometimes half a banana . . . but running on empty as the sun is rising is my preference too.

I would definitely not do it. You might finish, but the experience might be so negative you never want to do another. You have lots of years ahead of you to finish one after proper preparation, resulting in a fun (well maybe not exactly fun) experience.

Only in America could such a question be asked. I spend most of my time in central Mexico. It's very hard to find an automatic there. Mexico, as is most of the world, is impoverished. Automatics are expensive.

Get smaller shorts :)

I just read a review. Steps per minute, vertical distance of each step. length of time your feet are on the ground . . . I just need a watch and pace. Won't be buying this one. Simplicity is a beautiful thing.

Ecigs appear to be a much more effective nicotine delivery device than tobacco devices.

Try working out hard enough to get exercise-induced amenorrhea.

Good advice about seeing a doctor soon. I assume you know about Kerlan Jobe. They are solely sports doctors and have an office near you (310) 665-7200 off Sepulveda north of the airport. Their waiting room is funny because it is all casts and braces. They diagnosed a very rare issue for my gf that no general practitioner…

I suggest you take a slow recovery. Otherwise you will have to start a new thread on the same subject in two weeks. Get to the gym. With a flexor injury, no treadmill, stairmaster or bike. You have way too much time to prepare for a half. You can do that in eight weeks if you are already doing a 10K.

This thread is making me hungry. I'm gonna go run.

I am watching someone go through medical school. Year 5 and no nutrition course yet. An M.D. is the wrong professional for weight loss.

I like knowing on my training runs whether I am setting a new pr, which happened last week. On races, the race does it for me. There have been times when I know I am running fast and don't time it. it does feel good, but measuring does give me motivation.

That article is good stuff: "Therefore, in order to optimize “racing” an ultra marathon, participants should strive to carry light loads close to their body (i.e. mid section or center mass) and attempt to “give up” weight later in a long race if pacers are allowed. Keep in mind all is not lost if an athlete chooses to…

When you are running at least 3/week. It creates endorphins which are pleasant and also addictive. Thus, withdrawal and crankiness if you stop running. Lose weight. Running heavy is never fun.

"I tend to do out and back training runs and for me, mentally, it's all about making it to the turn around point. On my way out, I'm constantly doing math, counting down, in fractions and percentages how far I am to the turn around point. Things like "20% done, I only have to do that 4 more times." I do this too. It's…

I like running alone too. On runs over 10 miles, it's better to have a group but running with strangers in the marathon-training group I joined is awkward. Probably just my personality disorder or something.

Yes, it will make you much more positive.

One of the great snacks in Mexico is an individual ear of corn sold on the street (elote). Mexicans will put mayonnaise and chili on the ear and eat it on a sick. It's delicious, even without the mayo. It's a great late night snack.

Have you been to Vina for the Music Festival? I want to go.

I agree with this. The sugar limit in MFP should be read to limit refined sugars and hfcs, not natural sugars in fruit.

And when you pulled into a station and said "Gimme a dollar's worth of regular."

Carbon paper and that white liquid to fix the typos.

When you visit a museum and see something you used to use (rotary phone, game of Pong, typewriter).

Tell us about the contribution of having a buddy on the same journey. Could you have done it alone? How did you support each other when one of you got very discouraged . . . wanted to skip a workout, wanted to eat badly, etc.

Drink up. You sound dehydrated.

You are asking the wrong question. The right question is "Am I happy?" If your feedback, for example, were that your marriage is normal, you would still be unhappy. You need to open the conversation with H and get happy. It sounds as if H is unhappy. Thus the excessive sleeping and drinking (both signs of depression by the…

Does he put the seat down?

Fainting, death . . . heat does funny things to you. Get up an hour early and run when it's cool.

Learning new exercise techniques is my principal benefit from a trainer. Then I can use them on my own. Bands, balls, kettles, other stuff I wouldn't try on my own because technique is important to avoid injury.

Yep. that's why we all need this site. To stop that eating pattern. It's hard. I haven't succeeded yet, but some here have. Welcome.
