I have kind of a different (selfish I think) spin on folks who don't train. At the beginning of a race i always worry i will finish last . . .never do . . and usually do well, but I worry. I look around and all i see are athletes in top shape (or at least that's my illusion). Midrace, however, all the folks who didn't tran…

I have them all. I wear two. This thread makes me think though.

I am not going to ask something stupid like whether there is a London marathon for virgins? Even if the long run didn't work the first time, try it again. Others have already said you can walk too . . . maybe try 6 running and one minute walking later in the race. Adrenolin and your training will take you through.

I run . . . she walks.

The Masai Warriors running across the desert in Out Of Africa. They are effortless. They are steady. They are paced. They make the people afraid. That's how I want to run.

One of the great things about this group is that it does not have any "person above you" threads.

Exactly. Stop asking us to do your work.

Thanks for starting it. It's very cool.

I agree. You can't lose weight on 1200 cal/day. Your body shuts down to compensate for the inadequate nutrition.

weightloss32 thank you for this thread. Surprises me that Arizona has bad drivers, but whatever. BOSTON: I have run in Boston. They have a "stop by attribution" rule at stop signs. In a line of cars the first to stop is attributed to all those behind, so no further stopping is needed. Very bad for pedestrians. VENICE CA:…

The elliptical is a great choice with a calf injury. Calves are funny injuries. The re-occur unless you let them heal completely.

Ahh the impatience of youth.

I guess these guys, who noticed that excessive running reduces longevity, didn't read about the birds: http://www.newsplex.com/home/headlines/Too-Much-Running-Tied-to-Shorter-Lifespan-Studies-Find-253393191.html?ref=191 When the reduced heart-rate benefit is overcome by excessive running, then you hit the life-time limit .…

I'm in.

Wish I could post something here, but I'm in Southern California :)

I wouldn't do it. I hate having to sit on my butt for two weeks after a running pain or injury. On the other hand, there is no such thing as a training run that is too slow.

Did you do the 10 or the 21k? It was my first trail run. mostly fire roads but the horse trails were interesting . . . the gravel and sand in the river bed were not interesting :) I liked it a lot and much more fun than pavement. where's the next one?

You win your age bracket in a race . . . because nobody else as old as you entered.

You'll never make it if you a hard distance run at 9,600 feet. Happy Saturday. :)

I spend two weeks in Venice Ca at sea level then two weeks in Juchitepec Mexico at 7,000 feet each month. I never touch running in Juchi. But I think I am going to start running there because I no longer get winded climbing stairs and stuff. But very slowly to start to see how my heart and lungs react. My oncologist says…

No. As a morning runner, it's a pain. I like to start my runs 20 minutes before dawn. This morning, as an aside, dawn coincided with low tide. A spectacular beach run!

No. You can't forgive a cheater, because you can cheat on a forgiver.

I cured mine. Had been having them for 20 years. No more. It was the $1,800.00 pillow-top mattress. I bought a cheap, $179.00, no-lining mattress. No sweat, literally.

Here's a jelly bean link in case you need it: https://jellybelly.com/info/funstuff/Flavor_Guides :)

During a half, I will eat jelly beans during the race. Probably all wrong, but I like 'em.

This pace thing is interesting. I used to run at 12. Now I'm at 11. I can see getting to 10, but it takes work. I have noticed a 30 second improvement with each 5 pounds I lose. But I'm within 10 pounds of goal weight and it is probably not the same ratio of loss to pace at higher over-weights. But time does improve with…

Looks like a great run. I registered for the 10K. Only 400 feet elevation gain.
