  • Make half-sour pickles: http://www.finecooking.com/recipes/half-sour-dill-pickles.aspx Very easy, and very good! You can also add onions and/or carrots to the jar. Edited to add, I have made this both with and without the dill, they taste fine either way.
  • I do long bike rides regularly too, sometimes over 4 hours. I have switched to the TDEE -20% method, which parcels out the calories over the week. This is working better for me than trying to eat almost 2000 extra one day, and then back down the next.
  • Decafe Chai, with almond milk! Also a fan of peppermint. It's great iced in the summer too.
  • Yes, many times! I don't mind them as much as bats (my attic apartment had them), or snakes! I had baby garter snakes in the basement one year. That was the worst!
  • You can put some on pizza, or bruschetta, season and stuff cherry tomatoes and grill/broil, put some in an omelette,
  • Anything oven fried. I oven fry quite a few things to save on calories, but still get that crunch. But reheating does not work well.
  • I also like wasabi roasted soy beans, and blue diamond wasabi or smokehouse almonds. Yeah they are high in sodium, but that's not really a concern for me, especially in the summer.
  • Even scarier is the fact that they don't even know HOW they work. You are messing with your brain chemistry, and that has a multitude of effects. Marketing drugs based on side effects, as this one is--it's an anti-seizure med, repurposed, does not sound like such a great idea to me.
  • I took Topiramate (Trokendi, Topamax) for migraines for a while. It was the new thing at the time. Yes it did have the side effect of less appetite. But the other side effects were horrible. Numbness and tingling in the hands, vision issues, nausea, and probably the worst, forgetfulness. A nickname for it is dopamax,…
  • My favorite is Skinnytaste: http://www.skinnytaste.com/ Have never gotten a bad recipe from that site, and has low cal versions of lots of favorites!
  • Stuffed grape leaves are yummy! Thanks for the reminder, I have grapes growing here, and so need to make some while the leaves are still tender enough!
  • I go by the "talk" test. At moderate intensity, you should be able to easily talk but not sing. At high intensity, you would have trouble talking more than a few words at a time without pausing for breath.
  • I agree on the ice packs! I make my own using gallon freezer bags and dish liquid. Nice big size, stays flexible when frozen, and stays cold for a very long time.
  • I have arthritis in my spine too. I find that the more I exercise the better I feel. The only exception is that I can't do anything high impact, so no jumping of any kind. I do mostly biking, and some walking. Swimming would be good, but I don't have anyplace to swim!
  • I like the baked eggplant sticks from Skinnytaste: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2011/09/baked-eggplant-sticks.html I do soak the cut eggplant in salt water before making it, it does reduce the bitterness. You can do sticks or round slices with this recipe. If you do the slices, you can make eggplant parmesan with them.
  • I'm about half way to 45 pounds lost at age 47. Feel free to add me!
  • Just try to eat healthy for the rest of the day, but don't starve yourself! Log it and start fresh tomorrow. Fasting may lead you to want to repeat this and eat most of your calories first thing tomorrow morning.
  • What I have found helpful for plantar fasciitis is superfeet green insoles. About $30 or so, amazon carries them. I have them in all my shoes. Also ice and stretching. When my plantar fasciitis is acting up, it feels like the bottoms of my feet are bruised, and it's especially bad in the morning.
  • I have had this happen while biking. My balance is off, and I start feeling like I'm riding the same section of trail over and over. I have gotten better about refueling before I need it, and it hasn't happened lately.
  • I make oven fried chicken. It's a lot less calories. I soak mine in buttermilk over night before baking. http://www.food.com/recipe/baked-up-fried-chicken-low-fat-356549
  • I agree that you should bring a dish to share. Eat more of that, and small portions of the other stuff.
  • :You could try upping your calories slowly. The idea is to eat as much as you possibly can and still lose. The only way to figure that out for sure is by trial and error. I cycle, although not competitively, and if I'm really hungry after a ride, I eat more. I still lose at a steady rate. As far as what you burn per hour,…
  • Eating in moderation takes practice! You keep doing better and better as you go along. You didn't eat it all, and seriously even 1500 calories is at most going to stall you just a little bit. Just pick back up and keep going!
  • Sending you a request!
  • I use a HRM. I find the MFP burns are way too high. I think there are also some apps for your phone to calculate your burn, but I don't know which is the most accurate.
  • Heck yeah then. That sounds about right. Using a gas powered push mower on hills is brutal! I have an easier time with the reel mower, as it only weighs 35 pounds.
  • I use a reel mower on my lawn and wear my HRM. It takes me anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours, and I burn anywhere from 500 to 700 calories. Of course it's going to depend on your age and weight, but it definitely sounds reasonable to me! Edited to add: I'm old and short, so most people would probably burn more than me!
  • I have a protein shake for breakfast, that I make myself at home using a blender bottle. I use protein powder, almond milk, and water (or black coffee), sometimes I add sugar free flavored syrups. Has been working for me for almost six months. I have never done Herbalife and so have no idea about other transition issues.…
  • Wear a heart rate monitor. MFP is notorious for overestimating exercise burns, biking included!
  • Totally not scientific, but I gained a cup size bartending. O.o Every woman who worked at that bar did. We said it was from drinking beer. And although it's 20 years later, I never lost that cup size. Maybe it was lifting all those cases, IDK. Just looking now on the interwebs, and there is some discussion about the hops…
