I tried humira, and it helped, but not as much as my doctor and I hoped, so I switched to enbrel, and it worked much better.I was completely freaked out by doing the injections (methotrexate and enbrel) but after a few months, it wasn't such a big deal. Hope it works for you!

I really don't have mine fine tuned enough to tell how different foods affect it yet. I know for sure that exercising on my feet (dancing, jogging, walking, etc) for more than 30 minutes makes me really sore, and it takes a few days to get my joints back to 'normal' again so I have to stick with really low impact. Also,…

I'm 5'11 (and three-quarters), and I'm thinking I have a larger frame since even 16 years ago, 3 inches shorter and very athletic and healthy (in middle school) I was still a misses size 14. When size 18 became my norm last year, I knew I had to do something. Also, with a recent diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis that…

Oh that's a huge weakness of mine! I second the leaving yourself lots of calories suggestion, and the soup suggestion! Start with soup, and drink your full glass of water before you start filling a plate! Avoid deep fried stuff! Oh, and instead of taking a scoop of something that looks appealing, just take a piece (or 2 if…

Oh man, I SO remember that part of onset you described, and i'm so glad its a memory rather than a reality thanks to the medications. I'm not off steroids yet, so I can't say for sure if my current medicine cocktail was the ticket, but i'm just SO glad to have a break, however long from being disabled. Lots of people don't…

I switched to injections instead of tablets about 6 months ago because mine wasn't absorbing in the slightest. Now it's still not showing in my blood as much as I take, but it's significantly more effective than the pill, for me at least. Best wishes. It takes a little while to get over the shock of injecting yourself, but…

wvfarmgal, I hope you wont get too discouraged over not being able to exercise when your disease is so active. My rheumy told me not to even try unless I was mostly free of pain because using inflammed joints really will cause more damage. And give yourself a break about being cranky, too. Lots of meds make it worse…

Best of Luck Chauncy Renee! I have those two meds in my current cocktail too! Injecting gets easier the more you do it, so don't get too disheartened about that. I had to swtich to the MTX injections a while back, and added leuflonamide. I stopped humira to try Enbrel, and hopefully this combo does the trick and I can get…

Oh man, maybe we need a whole topic for shoes! I have dr. scholls sneakers which I basically live in! It's so much harder to walk/balance barefoot, I trip on the teeniest things (a grain of rice!??) since my ankles and feet have become SO weak that they can't handle any sort of unexpected shift in weight/balance. My rheumy…

Great tips! I have been having this exact problem, I'm losing weight fine, but getting noticeably weaker. Several of your tips specifically point out things i've been doing wrong, such as not enough protein, too large of a deficit on training days, and choosing cardio over weights in hopes of burning more calories. I was…

Thanks for all the replies! I suspected there were a lot of other people experiencing a similar roller coaster of emotions :o) It's nice to get it off your chest!

My weight loss slowed down when I ate back my calories, but I think it was because I was going by the machine at the gym, and i'm sure those numbers are overly optimistic. So when I was eating back the calories, I was actually eating back a lot more than I had actually burned. To account for this, I try to give myself a…

I have no idea how I would get cardio without the recumbent bike. Being on my feet for even a relatively short stretch of time really does a number on my ankles and feet and ruins me for the rest of the day, so walking, and even the elliptical are out. Strength training is pretty easy since I can just avoid the exercises…

I'm Lucia, i'm 27, and I was diagnosed with RA (and hypothyroidism) last year. My symptoms came on strong a few months after my 4th baby. Between having 4 kids (Daughter 7, and three sons 5, 4, 2) and hypothyroidism, I gained about 30 lbs, then came the RA so with the added prednisone and immobility gained 13 lbs more to…

My old crockpot chicken standby is similar to this. After I put the bag of frozen chicken in the slow cooker, I add a can of Rotel (diced tomatoes with diced green chiles)- it's cheaper than salsa, and a packet of taco seasoning. After its all cooked I like to use the leftover juice to make rice, and then keep all the…

It might just pass. I had that same thing, neither hungry nor thirsty for a few weeks. I went to the doctor, did blood work and everything, and everything was normal. I'm feeling more normal now, so I guess it was just a weird fluke. I just wish I could schedule when I'm going to lose my appetite though, with everyone…
