Personally I would thank him for bringing home things I liked, then eat only a little bit as a treat. Maybe this is how you learn to control those urges to eat junk. Alternatively, you could give him a list of things you'd like at the grocery store so there's something for him to follow.

The scale can be an enemy. It's best to either judge by your looks/clothes fit, or limit your scale time to once a week. That way, you're not obsessing that you gained 1 pound in a day when really it's probably water weight... Scale can be a useful measurement, but better to see physical results :)
