I've been doing tri's for 7 years now. I started from a position of not exercising at all. Friend me if you're still looking for friends.

What is magical about 5:30? If you want to do it in that time, you might be stressing yourself out because of that. I just finished my first 70.3 Ironman (Muncie) and only had done Sprints before that. For me, the journey was the training, not the event. The event was the celebration of finishing the training. It was hard,…

Working with a trainer is a 2-way street. I wouldn't be so dismissive with a trainer as some have suggested. My suggestion is that when someone suggests something you think won't work for you, just tell them and ask them to help you find something that will accomplish the same goals. Try to understand what the end goal is…

For my first tri, I did it on my own, with a training plan that I found on the web. It worked great. Since then, I have joined a group and train with a coach. Longer bike rides are a lot more fun when in a group. We also help support each other with information we find via a group on FB. The plan that my coach has given me…

I agree. I order what I want and then apply some portion control. I either split is with a friend or take it home and have it for another 1 or 2 meals.

A deficit of 3500 over time should give you a 1 pound loss. So, depending on how fast you want to loose the weight, you can decide when eat those calories or not. Eric makes an excellent point about the making sure you eat enough. So, if you exercise a lot just don't go higher than a 250-500 calorie difference from what…

I agree with prattiger65. That is how I determined mine too, based on books I've read on my interests. I am training for a sport and not focused on weight loss though. My goal is to build muscle and maintain it. I'd expect it to be different based on individual goals.

What you are doing is great, don't know what he was talking about!

Just finished reading a book on triathlete nutrition that I found very inspiring and not too complicated. I've been following it for the past week and recovery has been great. Check it out (I got mine from the library). Swim, Bike, Run--Eat : The Complete Guide to Fueling Your Triathlon By Holland, Tom I am doing my first…

I get audio books from the library and ONLY listen when I am training. Also, I set a goal for cadence, heart rate or speed for different time intervals and put that with me on the bike, so I have short goals to achieve.

Could be a lot of things, but it is a short amount of time to be discouraged so quickly. If you want to friend me, I'll help you with some suggestions. I've been doing tri's for 4 years now and still weigh about the same, but I am not too far from mid-range for BMI. If I concentrate on my intake and exercise, I can lose…

Glad you hit on something you like! I sometimes just add the protein to milk; other times I add fruit, like a banana or berries. Kiwi sounds great. It is getting close to peach season here, so I'll be using them or strawberries fresh soon.

I tried several and ended up with MRM Vanilla. It is a little lower in protein (18 grams per scoop) but tastes great and made with Stevia as a sweetener. http://www.amazon.com/MRM-Natural-Whey-Vanilla-2-02-Pound/dp/B000N8M3PE/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1333589255&sr=1-1

I started with Whey to increase protein around 3 weeks ago. I went to whole foods and got every one of their individual serving packets that they sold. There were 5. some had more protein then others. In the end I found that the only one that I really liked enough to know that I would use it was MRM Whey Protein. the taste…

I did my first tri in 2010 and had a injury in 2011 and just exercised and didn't do any races. I've been working on my swimming and biking all winter and I'm ready for the tri season. How about you? Are you doing a Tri this year? Want to be friends?

Why run? Walking is great exercise. I started losing weight 3 years ago. For the first 8 months I only walked and increased my distance as I got in better shape. Then, when I was walking for an hour regularly and my heartrate was not going up during the walk, I started doing a little running with the walking. I lost most…

I would second that 1200 is low if you are exercising. Since you said you are just starting though, you might be going through a period where your body is just getting used to the smaller portions. When I reduced what I was eating the first time I was STARVING for the first 3 weeks and just thought about food all the time.…

Yep, I agree. Don't be afraid to change the percentages. Read and find the one that's best for your lifestyle. I wasn't losing weight and working with a coach who told me I was not eating enough protein for all the activities I do. I changed my % protein up and wow do I feel better, even lost a few more pounds, but I just…

I run but I run slow. I was born on Thanksgiving. Therefore Turkey Trotter

I used to take over the counter meds to stop the burping and heart burn I had. The meds worked great and they may have helped to heal what was ailing me. Around the same time I changed my diet to more fresh veggies and less fried foods and processed foods and portion control, I noticed that I didn't need the meds anymore.…

Good for you! Glad you had the success and hope it helps to keep you trying to do more.

Thanks for your comments and information. I joined the group!

Hi, I was refered to your group today afer I posted my note on Protein. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/516195-protein I am training for several events this summer and want to compete at a lower weight. I say competing, but I'm no athelete. I am 57 and just started exercising 3 years ago. It has been so much fun.…

That's right. That is measured in gram. ie 150 pounds time .5 would be 75 grams of protein

I lost 30 pounds 2 years ago (over 9 months). I've been right around 136 (plus or minus 3 pounds) since then. I exercise a lot too. I have been my target calories are 1400 and I rarely feel really hungry and don't go over much. I've been told by my coach that I'm not eating enough protein and that's why I'm not losing…

A couple of things. 1. When you do start to exercise after not doing it you are going to build muscle. Your body might hold onto the weight for a period of time, several weeks or even months. But you should notice that you are less flabby and are feeling better. To prevent getting discouraged start to take your…

I have been getting my measurements done by a pro at the health club using calipers. The results I am getting using this link is similar.

I run with my dog and she wears the collar you described, with the prongs (girl, they are not SPIKES - that would hurt  ) She runs great with it. We've been using it since we could not get her to not pull and it stopped the pulling (she would gag before but she just struggled to pull even still). We've used it for 3…

I lost 30 pounds 2 years ago and have kept it off. 1. Portion Control - Measuring my food was a big eye opener for me. 2. The first 2 months of measuring and the change of diet we awful, but it ended and now I'm comfortable eating way less. 3. I found that I was eating too many carbs and I've reduced pasta to 1/2 cup per…
