I want to be a healthy BMI by Christmas and stay that way over the holidays. Only about 1.5kg to go, but I'm losing slowly because my health has suffered when I've rushed. My major goal is to be less sweaty when I go to Japan sometime in 2017, so hopefully a BMI in the low 20s, but that's ages away.

This compartmentalises life too much for me. I walk to whatever I'm doing because I can't drive, so a certain amount of fitness always happens. I have a few good friends at work, so I don't feel a clear separation then. I see my friends with my little boys in tow, so I don't separate family and friends. In fact, I have…

Recently I'm into kale, so usually get that, walnuts, wholemeal bread, cheese, eggs, high protein yoghurt, clementines and otherwise it depends what's on offer.

From what I'd read before, it was only the Japanese who needed a separate BMI scale because poor health outcomes came at lower BMIs, but other Asians didn't have the same issues. Has there been more research or are people expanding the Japanese research to include all Asians? Or is this not research based? I think the way…

And I had to bin some Betty Crocker chocolate frosting and some Fluff when I started eating them obsessively (I'd finished baking and serving the birthday cake they were intended for). It gets to a point where a certain eating behaviour borders on abuse, and if I sense that I will take the measures necessary.

Liquorice Allsorts are the worst for me. I weigh out and log one portion. Then another. Then another. Once I sent the remains of a pack to a friend the other side of the Atlantic to save myself!

I have my own 'solution' to the Creme Egg problem: every year I overdose on the things (4-6 in close succession) once, and then I lose my urge to eat them for another year... Better for my dental health too!

I am storing this in my 'snacks I have to try' section of my memory. Sounds good. Maybe with Prosecco and a movie...

One of my friends broke up with a girl because he felt he wasn't good enough for her, so it really does happen. However, I would find that horribly patronising and it might be a sign that it wouldn't work out anyway.

Their's one in the UK called Grenade Carb Killa and the White chocolate is amazing.

Amazing transformation! I'm sure some people didn't recognise you straight after!

40 from Surrey and pescatarian too! Hi! Just had some lovely salmon in BBQ marinade from Morrison's!

I ended up trying this workout: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/rudy6.htm Unfortunately it was too long for me to complete it (child in crèche creates an absolute time limit) and I left the gym lacking the 'balanced' feeling SL 5x5 gives me. Also, I started on just 2kg I'm each hand (other lowish weights were all being…

It depends on your weight so you can't go by someone else's figures, unless you are the same weight. The best way to find out if it is right is to see if weight is lost as predicted. I lose faster than my Fitbit would predict.

Then, why don't you start one?

Another British TV program (maybe even one from the same series) took a group of 'naturally skinny' people and made them overeat. There were three outcomes: 1) they over ate, gained weight, but lost it easily afterwards. 2) they really couldn't force themselves to overeat (tears etc) so didn't gain weight. 3) one gentleman…

I would really love to do Stronglifts again, but going to the gym doesn't fit into my daily routine very well, and I don't feel confident doing the bench without a spotter so don't want to set it up at home. Dumbbells seem safer alone.
-
This looks good, but as I'm used to Stronglifts, I was wondering why 8-12 reps, rather than a lower number. My understanding is that lower reps leads to a better increase in strength and higher reps is more for bulking.
-
The Stronglifts for women group on here recommends not to. Not sure I really know why.
-
I like Stronglifts 5x5.

I don't drive so all my kids have ever known is walking. There was a stage where my now 8 year old needed games etc to motivate him, so we played pirate ships and galleons (I was the galleon and he was the pirate ship chasing me) or aeroplanes. Mainly though it's just a companionable time when we can chat together. Is it…

Whatever your brain wants (eg to lose weight), your body is aiming for homeostasis (keeping you the same). It does this in a number of ways, including hunger signals or reducing how much you move. There is plenty of research that demonstrates this, and interestingly, also, that a reduction in movement at other times of day…

I got spotted by colleagues running, including one who was concerned I shouldn't be killing myself to try to get to work on time... So I clearly looked worse than I thought

Does he like peanut butter? That can be a good way to add calories. Avocado? Butter? Oils? I have petit, slender boys and I worry too. My 2 year old eats far worse than my eldest though.
-
My eldest is a fruitaholic which helps. Does he have any favourite healthy foods? Also, if you buy things really for him, you may be able to resist it better.

You can get amazing deals on cruises if you can go off-peak, so it's worth keeping an eye open.

Well done! I'd rather be huge than mean any day!

Whenever I've lost weight I've been asked how I did it, and their eyes glazed over when I said that I just ate less and moved more. CICO just isn't exciting enough, people expect it to be jazzed up with food group restrictions etc, because then it might be easier to do. One of my friends lost a lot of weight recently and I…

I love using the wii Zumba game. I used to be able to do a long class on there but I've lost a bit of fitness since.

Weigh daily but look at the weekly, monthly or 'since starting weight' graphs. I'm aiming to lose very slowly (1kg a month) so I have to expect a bumpy ride!
