  • Isn't the Edge a Cycle Computer? How would you use that in the Gym or jogging?
  • Get a chest strap heart rate monitor. Wear it when you work out. Bands and other gadgets only estimate. I have a Polar FT7, although I think the FT4 is a better value and does everything the FT7 Does. If you want more Bells and Whistles, there is a Polar BlueTooth Chest Strap, I think it's the H7. Then you can use your…
  • Eve, you are burning calories sitting at your computer breathing, every second of your life you burn calories. So yes you are burning calories without tightening you core. When your heart rate goes up and your respiration increases, you burn more calories. Are you getting a sweat on while hula hooping? Do you breath hard?…
  • Good Ole Fashioned Spit works fine. Wash that strap good after every use with hot water in the sink. Hang to dry. Be careful opening the battery compartment, I screwed up the plastic on mine and it's really difficult to open now. Probably ruined it.
  • I wear the Polar FT 7 and a Nike Fuel Band. I wear the Polar so I know how many calories I burn and I use that on MFP to track calories. I wear the Nike to get Points and have fun with it. My calories burned on the Nike isn't quite the same as the HRM.
  • Was she wearing perfume, jewelry, and makeup too? I suppose you could have been NICER, but no harm in my book!
  • It is going to vary based on YOU. Get a Polar FT4 heart rate monitor and wear it when you work out. It will tell you with fair certainty how many calories you are burning! I wear my HRM when I do insanity. Some days I burn 500+ some days 450, some days 600, it just depends on how hard I work that day.
  • They certainly sell the Body Pump DVD set, I know someone who has it! LES MILLS BODY PUMP! Try Insanity or T25 too. Don't be scared off by these, they're not that bad and you go at your own pace. The Jillian Michaels DVDs are all good. Look on Craigslist and eBay for people selling them used. Get it for 1/2 the price.
  • A hood, to hide your head in shame.
  • I may try it. But substitute the yogurt with Vanilla Protein Powder. And substitute the milk with water (per the powder instructions). The powder I use would make this about 165 calories, but it would have 29 grams of protein too! Throw in some other stuff like flax seed powder and you actually have a healthy shake! BUT..…
  • I wear a Polar FT7 when I work out. For some of my exercises, MFP is almost dead on. But for others it;s way off. I suggest a Polar or Garmin. The cheapy Walmart ones are no good. The best ones unfortunately you have to wear a chest strap, the ones where you just press your finger on it aren't accurate enough. The strap…
  • Homemade Veggie Soup (broth, any veggies you like, some beans, seasonings). Spinach Salad with some leftover chicken, turkey or ham in it, lots of veggies, 1Tbsp of dressing (measured out) Something sweet, like 100 calorie snack pack of cookies or something like that. The whole lunch will be under 400 calories and should…
  • If/When I eat at Subway, I usually leave the cheese off. It really doesn't add any taste to the sandwich! It just adds calories, fat, and cholesterol. The best is to do a turkey or ham salad. Have them put spinach in, instead of lettuce (which doesn't really have any nutritional value). Then load it up with all the…
  • Wow - So much hatred spewed out over all this! You people just LOVE telling someone they are an IDIOT don't you? What a lovely COMMUNITY we've become! 2 Years ago, I didn't see very much of this negativity here. MFP has grown up to be Facebook! Now, on to my rebuttal to everyone who thinks I'm just a moron for posting an…
  • Thanks! I usually never eat back my exercise calories. I used to do that religiously, but I hit a plateau in my weight loss. I started eating back about half of that and then the weight started coming off again. I don't believe that your body will "starve" if you don't eat back your calories. I've read that if you have…
  • So you think my Heart Rate Monitor is wrong? No seriously, I'm interested in Statistics. Why would the same workout be 200 calories more from 1 day to the next when the only thing different is I wore a weight vest. When I was 220 I would burn 900 calories an hour. When I was 210# I would do about 750-775. Down to 190# I…
  • It wasn't just 3 miles. it was a lot of other HIIT activities too. I'm telling you the truth. I usually do about 600+ calories in an hour, today I did 800+. 600 to 800 is 33% unless my math is wrong.
  • Can't help ya there. I bought some Ho-Hos yesterday in a weak moment. Try a small square of bitter sweet chocolate. It's very rich, low calorie, high in antioxidants, Maybe that will help!
  • Sounds like you're beyond a 5K already. March is a long way away, Step it up to a 10K, it's really not that far! Check out the apps C25K and C210K they will provide the training schedule you need!
  • I live in a big metropolis (2M+ People). I would bet that less than 1 out 10 people know the name of the person who delivers their mail. I would bet 1 in 100 knows who their garbage collector is. The collectors don't even get out of the truck any more. They don't come around any more to check the meter (its all electronic…
  • Ummm, in my town, they are city workers who make $50k-+ /year plus benefits They drive a truck with an automated arm that lifts the barrel up and dumps it into the truck. They have AC/Heat and listen to the radio and sit on their butts all day. They should be tipping me for putting my bin out to the street properly. I…
  • You probably have Patellar Tendinitis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patellar_tendinitis Ice it to the point where it goes numb. Do this several times a day. Rest it for about a week. Try Aleve pain killer. Get a knee brace. You're too light for it to be weight related. You are PROBABLY too young for it to be arthritis. You…
  • Beer usually packs it on. There is a lot of controversy over diet sodas. That the Aspratine can actually cause weight gain. I don't know if I believe it or not. But I do know that when I go a week or so with out a soda, I usually feel better. It's only a craving that I get and drink one, then two, then three, and then it…
  • sugar snap pea pods. cucumber and jicama diced up, a little lemon juice, salt, garlic powder. can pretty much eat as much as you want.
  • skinnytaste.com cookinglight.com eatingwell.com
  • Not saying that's my whole day. Especially when I work out. I usually have more than that. Snack and stuff. Usually some nuts, peanut butter, crackers, cheese. But if you asked for suggestions. You can add some more fruit. Some bread. Maybe some more fats (pork, beef, fried stuff). But as a baseline, it's a filling,…
  • My suggestion is make a weeks worth of meals on Sunday, get some sectional plastic containers ($3 at WalMart or $1 a the Dollar Store). Freeze or refrigerate them. Takes the guess work out of it all. My go to breakfast (which can be made the night before and nuked in the microwave at work). 1 egg 2 egg whites all the…
  • I've done it. Some people are appreciative, others give me a F-Off look! Usually it's with people I can tell are newbies or really out of shape. I saw a rather large girl doing crunches and she was yanking her neck up. I just wanted to make sure she didn't injure herself. Another time, I watched someone doing squats really…
  • Wear a heart rate monitor while you sit there and compare it to when you don't sit in the sauna. My guess is, it's not that much different.
  • Try www.rockmyrun.com You can get free 30 minute mixes or pay a small amount for longer ones. I have accumulated about 5 or 6 mixes which keep me going for quite some time!
