  • This post reminded me of this comic. Warning for the sensitive, some language: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/gym
  • My friend that did Weight Watchers said they told her if she had a few extra points over the week she could use them on a day when she knew she'd be consuming more calories. What that means is if you work out a little more (mind, you're still getting at least 1200 net calories) and save maybe like 100-200 extra earlier in…
  • You look great! Very athletic! :)
  • When I was more into this hardcore, I'd be sure to eat super healthy all during the day and include a little treat if I'd exercised. After all, why not. As long as you're eating tons of veg and other good foods and planning for that treat you're still going to lose weight. Life is for enjoying after all. :)
  • Thanks all! Didn't realize about the not labeling potassium on foods. I'm big on veggies and especially potatoes (I grew up in Idaho, it's practically against the law not to love potatoes, lol), so it sounds like I'm probably on target for potassium. The community knowledge and support is another reason I love MFP (even if…
  • I agree with Janeite. People are too sue happy, so instead of recommending what they normally would, some docs go the "safe" route and those that don't people complain about and hate/pester/etc. A large part of the problem is many of us don't have any skin in the game (i.e. what do I care, I'm only paying $XX for this…
  • Thanks for all the input. I don't know why I hadn't thought of salsa! So simple and so delicious. And seriously, give the yogurt a try, even works for a veggie dip. :D
  • Molten chocolate lava cake. :)
  • I think too it's how quickly you lose it. People who do those crazy diets and lose too much too quickly (and unnaturally) are probably more likely to be saggy. If you're losing weight the right way (healthy eating and exercise) I think your skin has the time to adapt to your new shape. Like Lynn1982 says, weights will…
  • I started this last January and managed to lose 15ish pounds (it's been fluxing lately) in 5-6 months (because of my laziness, probably would have been 1 month if I'd been more dedicated). It really is mostly about just sticking to it. Even if you skip over a weekend, or even drop off for a week because it's stressing you…
  • Wow! That's awesome! Your hard work definitely, definitely paid off. Well done!
  • Also agree, depriving yourself only leads to binging. Plan for some desserts. I usually have my desserts on heavy exercise days. I'm also very picky about what I'm willing to sacrifice calories for. For example, don't buy a carton of Good Value (Wal-mart brand) ice cream. Buy the good stuff (for me it's Breyer's). Often if…
  • Probably a lot of salads. I personally don't buy into the "no carbs" philosophy--I see a difference between healthy carbs and filler carbs. You can do a nice chicken rub and grill it, then cut up those pieces to throw in a salad to make it more filling. If you can use lemons or limes as your salad dressing you'd be…
  • I would suggest taking measurements in addition to the scale. It could be that you're eating too few calories. I know for me it says if I eat fewer than 1200 my body will go into starvation mode, which means no weight loss. But I'm 5'8" so yours may be different. You might try the 6 mini-meals approach. It kicks your…
  • Just make sure you're not going below 1200. If you put your body into starvation mode, yes, you may lose weight quickly for awhile, but eventually the body hits a limit where it won't let go of any more fat. Plus you'll slow your metabolism way down, which makes it harder to lose. If you're honestly not hungry (which I…
  • You can do it, you've already done 16. I know ppl who can't motivate themselves past 5. Just remember sometimes with this stuff it can be 2 steps forward, one step back. I've fluxed like crazy for months, and now I'm finally close to my goal. The hardest thing for me was beating my own laziness. There were times when I…
  • Are you eating your exercise calories back? Because if you're not, then it's like you're only consuming 500-1000 calories... You should also take measurements. Sometimes we lose inches before we lose pounds, especially if you're building muscles.
  • Find exercise you like. Take a dance class, martial arts, swimming, sports, etc. The gym NEVER worked for me because I have zero motivation to run on a treadmill or climb fake stairs for an hour. I also use "Just Dance" on the Wii. You get a work out and it's fun. You can even go for a walk, it counts. Yes, it's small, but…
  • You are supposed to eat them, but you don't necessarily have to eat all of them. Make sure you hit 1200 for sure. MFP is giving you the limit according to your goals, including exercise that you do. Your daily goal will change if you exercise. For example, if you have 1200 as your limit and exercise 200, then your goal…
  • You're soooo right about this. I tried denying myself sweets and treats, often it made it worse--if not always. If you're like me and you can't just cut out the treats, work it into your food plan. On days you exercise, for instance, you have extra calories, so treat yourself to a little something. For example, I made…
  • I'd say make sure to keep your protein up. Obviously red meat has it, but I feel like it's too heavy. Fish is really good for protein. I often do cottage cheese since it has just as much as red meat if not more. I add an herb to it, like basil or garlic and eat it with a multi-grain low-calorie cracker. String cheese…
  • HCG is essentially social acceptable anorexia. You can only consume 500 calories per day and you use the "HCG" to make you not feel hungry. I had a roommate that did it and she was irritable, depressed, and tired the whole time she was on it. It was awful! That's what starving yourself does. You'll lose weight fast, but…
  • I had an ovarian cyst once--I'm not saying it's necessarily that, but just something to consider. It made me feel dizzy and nauseous sometimes, sometimes extremely light-headed. They can mess with your ovaries. I'd probably say ask about it as a possibility if you miss it twice, especially if you have a blood test done.…
  • I echo the sentiment here. If you're not hungry, you're not hungry. I'd take a multi-vitamin regularly if you're not, just so you can make sure to get appropriate daily values of things.
  • As a comfort food eater, you're probably not going to be able to perfectly stop eating food when needing comfort. ;) I'm a snacker, and before it was candy. Now I do fruits and veggies (apparently in Weight Watchers those don't count against you, I mean if they're raw) among other things. I chew a lot of gum, gives me the…
  • If you do any kind of exercising you MUST eat your exercise calories back, otherwise your body will be in starvation mode. So say you burn 200 calories exercising one day. That means you need to eat 1400 calories. I'm at 1310 for about a pound a week. Sometimes I lose more, sometimes I lose less, it always kind of…
  • You can do this. And you'll probably fall off the wagon a couple of times, but the important thing is to always come back. If I'd been disciplined I could have made my goal months ago. BUT if I hadn't come back I think I would have lost all the progress I've made. For me it's been 2 steps forward, 1 step back. But progress…
  • Maybe your goal is too high right now? Like maybe you should start with 1/2 a pound a week so you have more calories to consume so it doesn't feel like dieting. I really don't feel like I'm dieting, I just try to be informed about what I'm eating. Some things I do to help with food cravings are chewing gum--usually a…

  • I'm a scuba diver. I'm not sure if it's accurate or not, but here's some speculation. I wonder if because the pressure is higher that movement requires more energy and burns more calories. I know it takes a lot more effort to breathe at 90 ft than at sea level. Plus we're using muscles we don't in regular activity, and…
  • You can and should eat your exercise calories. MFP has the limit built in for weight loss goals. That's why it says you've "earned" calories when you exercise. So shed the guilt, as long as you stay within the limit of your daily goal + earned calories, you'll keep losing.
