  • Tofurky Italian sausages are one of my absolute favorite things too. And my kids actually love them too, which definitely helps! They also sell them at Whole Foods. Aside from what's already been mentioned, I love Asmar's Vegan "Chicken" Salad. It's a local company (here in the DC metro area) so I don't know how far away…
  • For me it's red wine. For the longest time I told myself it was healthy to have one glass at night while I was making dinner. However, my wine glasses are more like goblets, and I was filling them to the top. So I was probably having the equivalent of 3 or more glasses each night. Most likely drinking more calories than I…
  • Thanks for the advice. Stephanie, I'll start using your routine. That makes sense to me. I think I was getting too stuck on the routine given in the book. I have 2 small kids, and finding 1 1/2 hours for yoga is difficult for me. Especially with my 21 month old trying to climb me during every pose. :)
  • I wish I didn't like fat! :) Of course there are the nuts, nut butters, and avocados. How about cooking things in olive oil, or making a homemade salad dressing? I know when I was vegan I used to make "cheese" sauces out of pureed nuts. Pureed raw cashews with some nutritional yeast and other spices makes a great sauce for…
  • I'm only familiar with the vegetarian dishes, but I would stay away from eggplant (baingan bharta) and the jalfrezi. Both of them are very oily. Otherwise I would think any of the veg dishes are fine, as long as you ask them to go light on cream and butter. My personal favorite is saag aloo (spinach and potatoes), but some…
  • According to my HRM, I burned around 300 calories per workout. I little less for level 1, and a little more for levels 2 and 3.
  • I'm 5'4" (actually 5'3.5") and have another 25 lbs to loose.
  • I've been a vegetarian for the past 20 years for ethical reasons. I would not kill an animal to eat it, so I don't believe in eating animals that others have killed for me. That being said, do I think meat in unhealthy? Absolutely not! I think people eating the standard American diet tend to eat too much of it, but I don't…

  • I've been a vegetarian for 20 years. My husband has been vegetarian for 12 years, and we have 2 kids (ages 22 months and 5 years) who are life-long vegetarians. Both of my kids are above the curve on their growth charts, and we've never had an issue with protein. Some of my suggestions: --scrambled eggs --yogurt --cottage…
  • Thanks for the advice. I think I'm scared because I had a bad Pilates experience when my son was still a baby. I strained my back so badly that I couldn't get out of bed the next day. Ever since then I've been really scared of working too hard and injuring myself, since my husband works 14 hour days, and I'm here alone…
  • I'm a vegetarian, and according to MFP I'm always over on my protein. I eat a lot of whole grain carbs (these have more protein than many people realize), nuts, beans, and soy products.
  • I'm a work at home mom with 2 kids, ages 5 and almost 2. I gained about 70 lbs during and after my 1st child, and I'm still working on losing it. Given my husband's long work hours, I'm pretty much stuck doing this on my own. Feel free to add me.
  • I've been doing Zumba classes for about 2 years, and I love them! I haven't tried the DVDs, but I did get the game for Wii. Honestly, I hated the game. I thought it was way too easy and really boring compared to the classes. It made me break a sweat, but nothing like the 600+ calories I burn doing the classes.
  • I broke mine last summer. I went to a podiatrist, and he gave me a boot to wear for 4-6 weeks. I really think that helped it heal more quickly. So I'd recommend seeing someone. Mine was actually broken far worse than I realized, and all I had done was hit it against my son's crib.

  • I would recommend the 30 Day Shred. I was the same height and weight as you when I started, and that's what I started with. Also, it only costs about $9, so if you hate it, it's no big deal. I also really like Turbo Jam, but that's a bit more of a financial investment.
  • I use a heart rate monitor (with chest strap), and I tend to burn around 600 calories for an hour long class.
  • I've been a vegetarian for 20 years, so if I started eating meat again I would probably get very sick. However, if you were only vegetarian for 1 1/2 years, I doubt you'll have much of an issue. Just start with smaller amounts just to be sure.
  • I've been a vegetarian for 20 years and vegweb.com is great. I also really like Whole Foods recipes site. http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/ It's not specifically vegetarian, but you can search for vegetarian and vegan recipes there. I'd say they tend to be a little healthier than some on vegweb.
  • How about iced tea? I like water, but I know when I was pregnant and nursing I got kind of sick of it. I would keep a pot of brewed decaf iced tea at home to alternate with the water.
  • I think it totally depends on your frame. I'm also 5'4, and my initial goal is 145. I may then lower to 135. I tend to carry a lot of muscle, and 135 would put me around a size 8. I've also been as light as 118, but I know that's not a sustainable weight for me, especially now at almost 40 and after having 2 kids.
  • My heart rate tends to run high. A light jog on the treadmill sends it up to 170 (I wear a heart rate monitor). I tend to ignore it unless I'm starting to feel dizzy or too out of breath. Also, I do intervals. I'll jog for 2 minutes (HR 160-170), and then walk for 2 minutes (HR 135-145). I've gradually increased the time…
  • I love my Brooks Adrenaline sneakers. They normally cost around $100, but I recently bought a new pair on Amazon for $65.
  • I did it between Jan-Feb. I didn't lose a lot of weight, but I did lose inches and definitely toned up. I would recommend mixing up the levels so you're not working the exact same muscles every day. That helped me cut down on soreness and boredom of doing the same routine every day.
  • Make sure you bought the right kind of tofu for what you want to make. Make sure it's extra firm and NOT the silken texture (you should be able to crumble it between your fingers). I recommend buying it at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or Asian markets. Then cut it into chunks and stir fry with a little oil until it's golden…
  • I log it under high impact aerobics. I know it's technically not high impact, but the calories burned are the most accurate for that category. I recently started wearing a HRM and the calories nearly match.
  • If you use an inhaler before exercising, that makes your heart rate higher.
