  • I'm doing my first 10 mile in April, and my first 10K in Feb. Not a half marathon, but pretty close.
  • My husband and I have been together for 12 years (married for 9 of those years), and we have never had a shared bank account. Our house and our cars are in both of our names, but when we pay our mortgage each month, we write two separate checks. We split all of our other household expenses down the middle. Take turns…
  • I'm a 40 year old vegetarian and mom of 2 young kids. Feel free to add me also.
  • I have 2 kids, ages 3 and 6, and we have 4 strollers. With my first, I got the mid-range car seat and stroller combo. I tried to exercise with it, but it was impossible. I'm not even talking jogging here, but just walking fast would make the wheels shake. It was also too big to easily get in and out of the car for short…
  • Compete in a triathlon. I just learned how to ride a bike 3 weeks ago (at age 40), so I still have a ways to go.
  • Thanks! We're staying in Kill Devil Hills, but we may be up for some traveling.
  • Her response sounds a little rude to me, but it's really impossible to know someone's mood through text. I've been vegetarian for over 20 years. I recently posted something on FB asking people for suggestions of places to go and things to do in the Outer Banks since we'll be vacationing there in a couple weeks. A bunch of…
  • I've done Zumba with several different instructors. A few I would classify as low tier exercise, but I think they're the exception rather than the rule. The normal Zumba I do is very similar to HIIT. It's not just dancing. There's tons of jumping, lunges, burpees, etc. I burn about 600 calories/hour, which is actually more…

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I actually tried to go to a bike store many years ago, and they laughed at me. At the time I was so embarrassed that I walked out, but now that I'm 40 I think I'll have more of an f*** you attitude if they laugh at me again. There are some positives to getting older. :)
  • I read somewhere (and I can't remember where now) that it's not the product you use, so much as the rubbing action that helps diminish cellulite. Something about regularly rubbing/massaging those areas helps increase blood flow and makes the skin look smoother, but it's not going to be a miracle cure.
  • Mine started as a postpartum depression/anxiety after having my son (who is now almost 3). For the longest time I tried to deal with it without medication. I actually did try Buspar in the beginning, and that made it worse, which is probably why I became so anti-med. Finally, about 2 months ago, I decided to try meds again…
  • I had believed my whole life that I never wanted to have kids, and then suddenly, in my mid 30s, I wanted them. I now have two. I know several other people who felt the same way, but then a major life event or the biological clock ticking made them change their minds. If you truly don't want them, then by all means don't…
  • I'm from Central Virginia, and I definitely consider myself Southern. If you cut out Northern Virginia and the Hampton Roads area, Virginia is very much a Southern state.
  • I totally agree with this!
  • My husband has horrible sleep apnea. I struggled with him for years to go to a sleep clinic and be tested. When he finally agreed, he tested in the "very serious" category (which is the worst). He is overweight now, but he has had it ever since I've known him. When we met, he was actually very thin. His father has it too,…
  • If you had asked me in my early 20s, I would have said no. Probably not date a man who'd been married, and definitely not a date a man who had kids. However, when I was 28 I met a man who was divorced and had a 5 year old. We've been together for 12 years now (married for 9 of them). I will admit it's more difficult to be…
  • I'm not a morning person. I tried repeatedly over the years to get up early and exercise, but I just can't do it. Finally, at age 40, I've come to terms with the fact that I'm never going to be a morning person. I usually try to work out around lunchtime, or just before dinner. Those are the best times of day for me.
  • I have a 2 year old and a 6 year old. I'm not a single mom, but my husband works 14 hour days, so I basically live as one much of the week. When my kids were younger, I did Stroller Strides (which is great, if there's one in your area). I also did long walk/jogs on my own with the stroller. Now that my kids are a little…
  • I'm also from Virginia (Alexandria), as well as a mom of 2. Feel free to add me.
  • My husband and I hooked up on our first date (fully mutual decision), and we've been together for 11 years now.
  • I'm 5'3.5, and I was a size 16 when I was in the 190s. Like you I tend to carry a lot of muscle, so I'm 149 now and wear between an 8 and a 10.
  • I've been vegetarian for over 20 years. I was a complete meat and potatoes type of person before I became vegetarian. I did it entirely for ethical reasons. Honestly, my cravings for meat ended within the first few months. I realized it really wasn't meat I was craving, but more particular types of food (like sweet and…
  • I'm a long-term vegetarian (was vegan for 15 years, but went back to ovo-lacto). I never used to have any problems with vitamin deficiency, but I've noticed that as I've gotten older, I can sometimes become anemic during my TOM. Now I take a multivitamin every day and take extra iron supplements during my TOM, and it…
  • I also have a 5 year old (and I'm pretty sure she has ADHD as well, but they won't diagnose her til she's 6), and she says things like that all the time. I try not to get mad because really she's just making observations. I do try to explain to her that she needs to keep her observations to herself, or ask me later when…
  • LOL! The last time I had religious visitors, it was a woman and her 8 year old daughter from a local Southern Baptist church. (I was raised Southern Baptist, but became agnostic as a teenager). I was very polite to them, and simply told them that I wasn't interested. Then my 5 year old daughter came out onto the porch and…
  • I can't comment on whether or not it's a myth, but I wonder about drinking only when thirsty. I used to drink only about 5 cups of water a day--whenever I was thirsty. Then when I became pregnant, I developed high blood pressure, and my midwife told me to drink as much water as I possibly could. So I started drinking more…
  • I'm 5'3.5, and at my heaviest I was 208 and a size 18. Kind of weird because I had a pregnancy with a net loss of weight. Post-pregnancy, I was about 195 and a size 16. Then is was roughly 10 lbs for every size drop, although I seemed to stay at size 14 forever. I'm currently 149, and wearing a size 10 (although a some…
  • I have Wii Fit, and honestly it's not that great for serious exercise. It might be a good place to get started for someone who's really out of shape, or something to do just for fun. It's a good activity for me to do with my kids on a rainy day. But I wouldn't recommend buying it for weight loss. The exercises are very…
  • I've been vegetarian for 20 years. I was vegan for 15 of them, but went back to ovo-lacto after I had kids. Feel free to add me.
  • Generally, if you're already overweight, they recommend gaining no more than 15 lbs. during your pregnancy. I definitely wouldn't focus on either gaining or losing when pregnant. Just try to eat healthy and get regular exercise. I gained 45 lbs. during my first pregnancy (started out only slightly overweight), but I only…
