As I'm sitting here with my bowl of oatmeal right now. lol. There is NO better food out there for any diet than oatmeal. Bar none. It is, to me, almost the most perfect food in the world. I have it almost every day. I have quick rolled oats. I try never to use overly processed (like the instant oatmeal) unless absolutely…

Well if you and your gf want the "old gay guy" quota met, send me a fr. I'd love to support anyone from the community. Good luck to both of you.

OMG, that is horrible. I think the reasons are as individual as the person. Fear of success? Lack of commitment? Complacency? Satisfaction with the status quo? Lack of a support system? Or just falling back into old routines? And I'm sure there are so many others. For many, I guess they think there's always tomorrow. For…

Welcome Jaimee -- first congrats on the smoking. That shows you can do it, because that is a lot harder. You are in the right place with thousands who have done it and lots of people who can help and support you. However, I must tell you I do think your goal of 20 kg (about 40 pounds) by December (even by the end of…

Welcome Linda. You've certainly come to the right place. And you've certainly got such a reasonable and attainable goal -- 20 kg (44 pounds) by the end of next summer. To do that, you basically need to be at about a 500 calorie a day deficit (eat 500 fewer calories than you take in). I know for me I hate the word diet. For…

I'm going with the "or not" option. But thanks for the chuckle.

Yeah, I used to be lazy. Now 2 artificial hips and an artificial knee later, I'm not. I know that to be able to get out and enjoy life and to be able to do all the things that I love to do, I need to be in shape and as physically fit as I can be at my age with my titanium body parts. I can do more physically now than I…

Both are big NSVs. Congrats.

Congrats!!! Well done.

I think the foods you are eating are fine. There just aren't enough of them. The suggestion for more protein is probably a good one. As others have suggested, I would be worried about your metabolism slowing to adjust to your lowered intake of food. You give your height and age. What about current weight and goal weight.…

Full day tomorrow. Meeting my trainer for a session at 7 am (ugh). Then meeting a friend at 1130 for lunch. Head home to hopefully watch Alabama clean Johnny Manziel's clock a few times. Then out to dinner with my partner and my son at that haute cuisine place, Dave & Buster's.

Same as most mornings: a peanut butter sandwich (just pb) on a whole wheat sandwich thin plus 3 ounces of roast beef to increase the protein. Fast to fix, fast to eat. 400 calories in just a few minutes. Normally a couple hours later I will have a bowl of oatmeal plus protein powder, followed a couple hours later by a…

True I've never had my appendix out.

MityMax is correct -- you will need to open your diary for any thoughtful comments.

And you have COPD? One of the diseases at highest risks for complications from the flu? You certainly have the right, but boy, that seems like an awfully huge risk to take with your life. And that is what it is. Every year. At any time.
-
Normal people? Boy how derogatory towards immunocompromisd people can you get? Guess they aren't "normal". Whatever in the hell normal means.
-
You bet I get the flu shot. Every year. The shot cannot give you the flu because it is a dead virus. The nasal spray has the potential to because it is only partially inactivated, so there is a slight chance with the nasal spray. But the vaccine does not and cannot cover every possible strain that can exist. Every year,…

The problem isn't necessarily eating breakfast. One survey I saw said about 80-85% of Americans claim to eat breakfast on a routine basis (most days). Yet we have a large obesity problem. It isn't THAT we eat breakfast. It's WHAT we eat for breakfast. The sweet rolls, the danishes, the pastries, the all-you-can-eat…

OMG that is hysterical. And sad at the same time. Because it sounds exactly like something Pat Robertson would tell his listeners today. Talk about stuck in the 50s. Especially the "if he cheats, get over it". Thanks for the laugh.

^^^ THIS. My partner and I are about the same weight (I outweigh him by about 5 pounds, and he is about 1 inch taller). He's in size 34 jeans, I'm in size 28s, even though I'm shorter and heavier. The OP used the phrase "ideal weight". I think she needs to get that phrase out of her vocabulary. There is no such thing, I…

Welcome back. Always glad to add friends from the community. FR sent.

Well I don't see any in my town that offers it (DEXAs are used for useless purposes like bone density and actual medical diagnosis. lol). I'll see if there is anything in DC which is reachable. It may be worthwhile. But I don't know if anyone interested here is in San Jose, California, but there is currently (and I don't…

Well at least that chart is encouraging. I made it to lean, after starting here in January barely in the above average range. But the question I have from a vanity standpoint is, can a man my age (58) get down lean enough (at leas subcutaneous fat) to show the six pack. I sure seems almost like the impossible dream. I'm…

Normally I "eat" my last meal about 7 or 8 with dinner. I do have a protein shake later than that, frequently in the 11 PM - 1 AM time period. If I need a few calories, I'll throw in a McDonald's ice cream cone or hot fudge sundae late as well, but only if I need the calories.
-
I'm wearing mine right now. Casual day at work. And the first time wearing my brand new size 28 jeans. When I started a size 30 were my dream jeans, my goal, something I never thought I could make. Now I'm in a 28. Unbelievable.
-
And THAT is how it's done. With that attitude. No quick fixes, but slow and steady. You're in the right place. Lots of great people to support you, encourage you, offer advice. Just hang in there. Don't get discouraged by any setbacks or slip-ups, because we all have them. And you can do it. Best of luck to you.

^^^ THIS. Oh yes, this. Be proud of it. And proud to have you on my FL. WTG. Celebrate.

Hi and welcome to MFP. There are people who use MFP for all sorts of purposes. Mainly weight loss, but there are those who use it for maintenance as well as those who want to bulk. Two threads/groups for you to investigate. The thread is about gaining weight (normally in the context of bulking):…

Unlike some others here, I would check a few other places to try to get confirmation that the daily target is really right for you. So can I ask, what is your age, weight, height, and how much are you trying to lose. All those things will play an important factor in determining your daily target. Are you exercising, and if…
