Pffffft...... I can just see that hoitytoityness and I'm so not going to go there. I expect, as an "older bride" I would get a similar reception and "advice" on what I can and can't wear so they can *** right off. LOL Maybe you'll get a better reception in Canada?

A very rude awakening when I got a food scale. My guesstimates of what I thought was a portion, in particular for things like cereals, rice or pasta was often quadruple of what it should have been. LOL

Judging by your forum name, you might also want to check out some of these... :) http://www.the-couture-company.co.uk/gowns http://www.rockthefrockbridal.co.uk/ http://www.rocknrollbride.com/2011/03/alternative-non-strapless-wedding-dress-ideas-for-a-rock-n-roll-bride/ You might get better advice there than in standard…

I just noticed you're in Scotland... If you're 238lb now but your wedding isn't until January next near that's oodles of time to drop into the size range where you can buy off the peg if you wanted to. Both Phase Eight and Monsoon go up to size 18, so you can then just pick whatever style you fancy.

It depends how you ascertain your calorie burn. If I were to use MFP "guesstimates" or data from cardio machines I certainly wouldn't all of them back because they are huge overestimates. If you work with a HRM and are reasonably confident you are not overestimating your burn, then maybe eat back half to two-thirds.

I have to say I feel strongly about this. When you commit to a pet, it's your responsibility to meet their needs. It makes me feel really sad to see young and capable dogs sitting at the vets, morbidly obese with arthritis and heart problems, because their owners let them get to this state.

I won't have a made to measure dress, but find in the UK there are plenty of beautiful "off the peg" dresses, so I'll leave it until about 6 weeks before the wedding and just buy one at goal weight.

Hi there. My weight gain was also due to bereavement (both parents in the last three years). Before that, like you, I was an Ironman triathlete and hence thought nothing of three hour runs, six hour bike rides, 4km swims etc. Then I gained just short of 50lb and after three years of doing nothing I came back to some level…
-
Exactly.
-
Weight gain is relative. When I went from 125lb to 175lb I thought I was huge. Does that mean I shouldn't be able to express that because there are others who are bigger who might be offended?
-
Ditto.
-
I guess the real question is how are YOU going to deal with it? What do you want more? To lose the weight, be healthy for yourself and your children... or carry on eating food you don't need while sitting in front of the TV?
-
Well you learn something new every day. :| Just coffee for me.

10km today. :)

I don't like the whole discourse of "cheating" and "treats" and all that. I believe that the words we use matter and many people would be better off having a relationship with food which does not involve phrases around rewards or punishment. Food is food. It's what fuels my body and my activities. I don't need to "cheat"…

Great post. I also think it matters if the OPs opinion was invited or whether she effectively forced her opinion into the conversation which was taking place between two others. I overhear many conversations in my gym, about nutrition or training methods, which are complete and utter cobblers, but it wouldn't occur to me…

You should be a forensic profiler. ;-)

Projection much? :|

First I used MFP, or used the data off cardio machines, then got a HRM. The difference is quite staggering. Both overestimated considerably. Also most people log their gross calories burned not their net calories. For most people that's about a 25% difference.
-
Perfect little biking distance. :-)
-
Sorry, you either have it or you don't. Although many overweight Apple shapes do discover eventually that they have a waist.
-
I have access to a Trixter X Dream at my gym and I like it a lot. I use a HRM to get my burn.
-
Have the Blaze and love it. Compared HR function to chest strapped Polar and its remarkably accurate. Never had a Surge so can't compare.

Apart from the fact that he won't know when he's got 3oz or 100g or whatever unless he starts weighing.
-
Because unless you weigh how much you eat you don't really have a clue what your calorie intake actually is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjKPIcI51lU
-
No. You're likely to have eaten MORE than you thought, and / or burned less than you thought by exercising.
-
The scale you really need is a food scale. Guessing what you're eating doesn't cut it. If you didn't lose any weight in 3 years despite exercising you weren't in a calorie deficit. Simples.
-
There are certain things I just don't buy anymore, and when it's not in the cupboard it can't get eaten. LOL
-
My favourite is the Trixter bike. You can do virtual reality rides as well as riding stages of famous races like the Tour de France etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo8zJHbew5k I generally prefer to do my cardio outdoors though, but it's fun if the weather is really horrid.

LOL!!!!
