Never. Nor would I wish to.

Exactly that. There is no "should". It depends on your psychology. Some people love the number-crunching of daily weighing, learning about fluctuations etc and I'm one of those. However, it drives some others around the bend who can't cope with seeing upward fluctuations. Some weigh twice weekly, weekly, monthly or not at…

Not everything you eat will have a barcode. I assume you may eat loose vegetables, etc. Also when you scan your pasta for example, do you just assume that what comes up is the same as your portion? You need to weigh stuff. By the way I can easily temporarily gain 5lb in a week around TOTM. Could it be that?

Agreed!!! You might think you know what she eats, but I doubt you're with her 24 hours, and if she's not losing she's not in a deficit. Perhaps she is snacking when you're not watching because this has got all a bit intense?

I see what she might mean. I came to the UK in 1989 and at the time there was "white bread" and "brown bread" and that was it. It was all so bleugh and fluffy and it was like it was baked for people with dentures!! When I lived in London I used to go to the Harrod's bakery for a stupidly expensive loaf of "Bavarian Rye"…

No I meant that more in the sense of "when you have one flat tyre it makes no sense to slash the other three as well".

A book a personally like a lot... For anyone else who is allergic to the "cult of optimism". LOL http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Antidote-Happiness-Positive-Thinking/dp/1847678661

With rational I mean having realistic expectations, accepting that not every day will go as planned, understanding that one mishap does not have to mean disaster, understanding that certain weight fluctuations are natural, understanding the simple principles of calories in & calories out and doing the maths.

I neither do "positive affirmations", which to me feel really fake and contrived, but I also don't do this mental self-flagellation you mention either. For me the type of thinking that works best is being "rational".

The right shoes for you are those that: - are suitable to your gait (heel strike, mid or forefoot runner) - are suitable for your foot's unique biomechanics (pronator / supinator etc) - are suitable for the type of mileage you're running (high mileage trainers vs race shoes) - are suitable for the type of terrain you run…

I grew up in Germany, so I love rye bread and often bake my own, but I wouldn't say it's 'better' than wholemeal or other wholegrain/multiseed breads.

Wow people still do this??? My paternal grandmother did the "cabbage soup diet". She died morbidly obese at 50-odd of a massive coronary. Suffice to say it didn't work for her.

Another October bride here. :)

3 mile canal walk today.

Sounds healthy and wise. :)

It depends how much that friendship means to you and how much you're willing to risk "an atmosphere" at work. Personally I would probably keep walking with her in the lunch break and just see it as a social thing, as it would only be a tiny proportion of my activity, and do my more competitive stuff before or after work.

And think about whether a road bike is really what you want. If you're not going to ride much and you're used to the relative terrain versatility of a hybrid, then you could look at just getting a more modern hybrid again? Some modern hybrids are excellent now, much lighter, nice gearing etc.

Saddles are a very personal choice. Personally I find "less is more". I see some ladies on the girnoooourmous wide saddles in a "sit up and beg" position and I would find that crippling (not to mention chafing!). I do like female spec narrow saddles with a "flap gap"... excuse the term, I didn't invent it... These...…

Ah that's okay then, you'll just harden to that. Had it been the other place, that can be because the riding position might be too aggressive for your current lack of riding core strength, and can be helped by little things like raising the handle bars a little or bringing the seat forward a little to not be quite so…
-
Is it your sitting bones that hurt or *ahem* further forward? I'm a girl you can tell me...
-
It gets easier. You harden to it. What sort of bike is it? This is a bike house...... Between me and my OH we have 4 MTBs (hard tails & full suspension), 3 road bikes, 1 hybrid and a Pashley.

That!

Sometimes you look at people's diaries and there seems to be never any butter on a sandwich, never any cooking oils used etc. That can be hundreds of calories alone in a week. Then when people log their exercise, many don't think that gym machines or the database here overestimates workouts, especially things like…

So in old money that's 218lb to 143lb? In that case at your activity level you should be losing at 1600. If you're not, and you're not currently weighing your food, my first step would be to tighten up on my logging. "Eyeballing" portion sizes can make a huge difference. Also not "forgetting" about things like the oils you…

Without knowing what your current weight is and what your goal weight is, I doubt that anyone can give you much of a meaningful reply.

I knew someone who liked to "start debates" on FB. What she was actually doing was trolling people, because she got a kick out of it and would then complain that people insulted her...
