  • No I also do crunches (sometimes weighted) and pull-ups (assisted.) I shoot for as many crunches as I can do in 2 minutes, or as many sets of 8 as I can do if they are weighted. Regarding pullups, that varies, but I usually crank out between 10-20 every time I go to the gym. The recommended daily protein intake for an…
  • Still moving right along on pace to get down to a healthy weight (191 for me). Once Im there, the diet plan will probably change to allow for more variety.
  • I dont eat power bars, Im just saying that I can once at a "maintenance weight". In the last 28 days, I think i've supplemented about 1 cup of granola total (I track it in the fitness pal logs). I also have "reward" threshold weights (less than on my wedding day, less than start of boot camp, less than end of bootcamp) - I…
  • So, assume I'm totally ignorant. What does a "beginner heavy lifting approach" mean?
  • Yeah I am very much aware of my blood pressure, I check it every 3 days and it has only gone down. This makes sense cause at USMC boot camp (when I was exercising rather a bit more) my blood pressure was unhealthily low (100/55 many days). So I think I my body has a healthy baseline in terms of keeping blood pressure down.
  • I think I posted the nutritional content of my meals at the very beggining. There is nothing objectively unhealthy at all about this diet. Puts you almost exactly at 100% daily recommended of carbs protein and fat, has balanced sodium/potassium, is low calorie. All its missing is calcium and vitamin C, so I take a daily…
  • Actually, on that topic, look, I love to cook. And I really hate bland sauce. I'm an alfredo sauce or curry from scratch kind of guy. But when I make it myself, portion control is virtually impossible. I cook for my wife and we routinely finish whatever I cook (no matter how many "servings" there really are). It just…
  • I thought I would be too. As it turns out, 15ozs of food at a sitting is really a lot of food. When you get to bowl you feel pleasantly full. Granted, when you are "on the go" and eating a can of cold dinosaurs and meatballs in the subway, there is the dirty look factor to consider. Then again, the smelly homeless guy, the…
  • In all seriousness, I'm more "regular" than I have ever been in my life. Whoever told us all about getting gas or having to use the facilities all the time if you eat this stuff totally lied.
  • Yeah, but it certainly is NOT $3 per day.
  • Ha! In most of their food, the "meat" is a combo of chicken pork beef and soy protein. But then again, before I started doing this I had no problem with Taco Bell, Oscar Meyer Hot Dogs or Taylor Ham (Pork Roll) - so who am I to judge?
  • To be fair, I also have gone for extended periods of time in my life eating nothing but military Meals Ready to Eat (MRE's). And I assure you they are much more processed, less flavorful, and quite literally leave a bad taste in your mouth pretty quickly. By comparison this has a lot of variety, and I can add spices like…
  • Definitely read the labels, not all cans are created equal. Whole grain lasagna? Awesome. Chili Mac? Not so much. I would also warn anyone that a large part of why its okay for me to eat so much sodium is that Im in training for a half marathon in NYC this march. Long distance running you sweat out a lot of electrolytes…
  • Obviously going from 2000+ cals per day to 1500 cals per day is going to be effective. The trick is finding a way to easily watch those calories, in a way that is inexpensive and enjoyable. PS: When Im at a healthy weight, maintaining it should require about 1800 calories a day. That's what Im eating now, plus a power bar.
  • So I love this thread, but I have two questions: 1) Wouldnt it make more sense to post your weight loss as % of starting weight. I mean, dropping 100 pounds if you weigh 300 is a lot, but its really only 33% of your total mass. Same as going from 150 to 100. 2) For those of you women who posted pictures showing your abs,…
  • Oh, now that is just sad. No wonder Hostess went of business. They clearly missed the boat on the international market.
  • Sadly there are no more twinkies. Once yodels and twinkies ceased to exist I lost all interest in sugary snacks.
  • Well, the fitness change (running in half marathons etc.) I certainly intend to keep up for the rest of my life if I can. Once I get down to a healthy weight, the plan is to slowly move to a more traditional diet that involves more fresh vegetables and less processed food. For a 6' tall fella like me that means somewhere…
