If there is any chance in saving this thread, I'd love to hear ideas from people on how to SOLVE the complaint that eating healthfully is more difficult with a lower income. How would YOU feed a family of 4 on $50-$70 a week? I had a couple ideas: - Plant a garden, use a topsy turvy, or use a community plot. Strawberries…

Ever notice how the people that frequent GNC are uptight, skinny, wealthy non-minority folks? <dramatic pause> But if I sign with a flower, it's not inflammatory or insensitive, right? (not to mention completely INACCURATE) :flowerforyou: I gained over 200 pounds without setting foot in Walmart. Bad choices overcome…

Hi. What interesting timing for this question - I'm an RN and Health Coach and just today I teamed up with a Registered Dietician and presented a class on healthy eating. When asked about calorie intake necessary and weight loss, we responded that: Individual calorie needs vary depending on a lot of different factors. A…

So I've been drooling about this all morning and I dreamed up my day. Comes in at 4990!!!!! (And this is without soda.... but that could easily tack on another 500-900!) Venti mocha frappucino with whip – 470 Belgian Waffle with strawberries – 570 Two slices of thick bacon – 120 Coffee, creamer - 40 Chipotle’s Chips and…

Thank you for this thread, I love all you dirty boys 'n girls!!! I kinda feel like many times the members from the "Clean Eating" Camp are sorta like the charismatic, evangelical zealots... not a lot of tolerance for people that don't think exactly the same. And they are usually really LOUD with their opinions. . . I think…

While I would prefer to eat "clean" and I do prefer how I feel - I don't believe it's a necessity for weight loss. It boils down to simply expending more calories than you take in. I've had lots of success - and some days it's clean eating - some days it isn't. Best of luck to you!

Now I remember why I am trying to stay out of the forums... not for the original poster, but for the snarky replies. I can admit - a 5K day used to be my norm. I'm not proud of that, but - it's what once was. One or two meals out and you could easily hit that mark. Anyway, a point made by some of the folks that responded…

As folks have stated, this is US - but similar information would apply. You can also search similar foods in the food database, without even having the label. In other words, if you're heating a store-purchased hot dog bun, look up on MFP "hotdog bun." It may not be precise, but it will be in the ballpark and somewhere to…

Start here. Note the size of a single serving and how many servings are in the package. Check total calories per serving. Look at the serving size and how many servings you’re really consuming. If you double the servings you eat, you double the calories and nutrients, including the Percent Daily Value (% DV). Limit these…

Amazing list. :-D If food is medicine, you're completely set.

Not understanding all your health goals, these certainly looks like good choices. The only thing I might suggest is potentially to add spices and herbs. I know they probably aren't categorized as food, but we are very salt-conscious and have found lots of amazing benefits (not to mention great taste) from adding in some…

Totally possible. Whether or not it's healthy or a concern depends on a lot of factors, beginning with your baseline weight. I can gain and lose 10 pounds overnight easily, depending on my fluid status and sodium intake.

Do a search on the forums or just browse success stories - tons of inspiration to be had. No secret sauce in my eyes, simply more good decisions than bad ones - for food, activity, and all things healthy. Burn a little more than you consume more days than you don't. Don't let a bad day, week, or even month derail you from…

Love it, love everything about it... know what happens 'cause I read the comics!

I wondered how long until someone asked. It's not a daily craving, maybe occurs once every 4 years and I just can't resist taking a taste. Well versed in pica - have a masters in psych and I'm an RN. I appreciate the question, but not a cause for concern. I just find it fascinating. And when I randomly polled my friends, I…

I'm afraid that wouldn't work as well as partnering with MFP has for me... I'm in a slump, for sure, but when I was eating unprocessed, MFP still helped me plan, stay accountable, control portions, and get amazing support. Either way, best of luck!

Funny timing, my friend just sent me this link and tried this recipe for easy eggs... said it's amazing and made peeling a breeze: Put a baking sheet on the bottom of the oven then place all the eggs you need cooked directly on the oven rack, the baking sheet will catch any broken eggs for easy cleanup ... Bake the eggs at…

I think the episode that grossed me out the most was the blood drinking one.... followed by the one that had meaningful relationships with blow up dolls... and the one that ate the couch cushions. WACKY!!!

Makes no difference. Calories in vs calories out over time. The only exception to that, in my opinion, is to eat something as early as you can when you wake to get your metabolism fired up. Break-the-fast so to speak. :-)

I'd like to agree with you that they aren't doing it intentionally... but who knows. Some folks absolutely DO it intentionally because your success terrifies them. I have a pretty down-pat system of handling these situations. 1st time - Thank you, but no. I'm very focused on my goals right now and that just doesn't fit…

I put the eggs in a cold pan, fill with just enough water to cover the eggs. Cover and turn on high and bring to a boil. Once it hits boils, I turn the temp way down to low, leave covered for 15 minutes. Then I drain the water and replace it with cold tap water. I either add a few ice cubes or change out the water a few…

Crispy faux-fried tilapia Raw kale salad with homemade croutons Roasted potatoes and onions And if I've got calories leftover (depends on how big my servings are for dinner), chocolate pudding!

Always cold, unless I overeat!

5'11'', take in 2100 calories. More important than height, I think is current weight and weight loss goal.

ME~~~!! It's never actually hapepned, but it hitched once and since then, it's terrifying. I finally gave it up and won't do it, too stressful! Switched to the elliptical and it provides so much more peace of mind!

Simply: Not. Calories in vs calories out... the "secret." The quality of the calories may impact how you feel along the way... but that's the bottomline.

What was the question? Not to be snarky, but honestly... I can't recall what you asked. There is no mixed signal, even if he SAYS one thing he clearly demonstrates a lack of caring for himself, and for you. As RuPaul would say, "If you can't love yourself, how the hell are you going to love somebody else?" I think he has…

Warning! Warning! Warning! Don't need to understand him, know him, or get a bigger picture. If the behaviors your describe are even a tenth accurate, he has a level of neediness I personally couldn't tolerate. Call it controlling, call it insecurity, call it whatever... but it's a sign of things to come. You need to decide…

... okay, so I'm tired and probably shouldn't be in the forums. My sarcasm-o-meter is on the fritz. I'm assuming this was a serious post. While donating blood is FABULOUS and unselfish and wonderful on all accounts... it's a little bit of a misconception to say it burns 600 calories. The fluid volume removed DOES cause an…
