I have counted calories my whole life and maintained. I'm almost 60 now. The times when I neglected to keep track of my calories is when I gained some weight back. I plan to ALWAYS track my net calories. Good luck.

Eight glasses of water a day an urban myth'? Water and a well-balanced diet 'do far more than water alone,' Australian researcher says CBC News Posted: Jun 10, 2012 12:51 AM ET Last Updated: Jun 10, 2012 12:48 AM ET The common advice to drink eight glasses of water a day doesn't hold water, say nutrition and kidney…

I have done it my whole life. I read about the idea 40 years ago and have proven it to myself. The reason you never hear about it is because weight loss gimmicks are big business.

ingriddingman said.... Crazy how far we've come! I just had a new consultation with a nutritionist, and she recommended 11 or more cups of water a day! Just can't do it.... [/quote] I think that even the medical establishment is guilty of not checking facts when it makes recommendations.

That's nice.

I drink beer almost every day. My tastes lean toward IPAs and stouts. I don't know if ANY kind of beer is bad for us...unless we drink too much. There are reports that beer in moderation has some benefits for heart health. I've been meeting my weightloss goals for over three months now....even with beer consumption. I…

Well Downey....everything has a price. Such is life.

I only concern myself with calories. I eat the foods I enjoy and track them all. My goal is one pound/week. It's been 13 weeks and I have lost 15 pounds. I only weigh on Sunday mornings. Some weeks I didn't lose a pound and some weeks I lost two pounds. I exercise by riding my bike at least 30 minutes a day (on average)…

Just for the record....not everyone needs to have "the right someone". Some do....some don't. Peace.

I have beer almost every day. I record everything.

I am.

It's too damn cold to do anything else in Canada. Oh wait....did you say "hookey"?.

Like others, my weight loss hasn't been "exactly" one pound every week. I have lost weight by counting calories before so I have learned to look at the long range average...not just a week at a time. Good luck.

My goal is one pound/week. I have lost 15 pounds in 13 weeks. On average, I have stayed right at my recommended calories.

If you're talking about calories of various foods, I don't know for sure. I have scanned some items and it comes up different than what's on the nutrition label. However, there hasn't been enough difference for it to matter to me.

Nothing.

I don't know about the UK but on this side of the pond a pound of potatoes costs about 100 times LESS than a pound of potato chips! Food for thought.

I weigh myself every Sunday morning. I don't place as much value in the scale as I do my measurements. At a pound/week, I realize it's going to take a while and I need to be patient and look at the "average" weightloss over time. Good luck. BTW....I've lost 15 pounds in 13 weeks.

Not all areas of the world pay the same for food so it's hard to compare. There is one thing concerning food cost that I like to point out to people though. Pound for pound, fresh food is cheaper than processed. For example...a pound of potatoes cost 50 to 100 times LESS than a pound of potato chips. Just some food for…

Most days I do eat them back.

What do I think? Well.... I view most of what you said as being out of my control. One of the few things I DO control is my reaction to what life throws my way. So...to help preserve my happiness and peace of mind, I don't worry about the mindset of others.

"I'm mad about my flat" means a very different thing on this side of the pond. LOL.
-
So....I just did a local comparison. In my area, a pound of potato chips costs about 100 times as much as a pound of potatoes. I would be very surprised if this wasn't very close to the same in most U.S. locales. In other words, if it takes me a pound of potatoes to get full, I'm going to save lots of money if I buy fresh…

So...what is not "telling" about the fact that a pound of fresh potatoes costs WAY less than a pound of potato chips? It's just math.
