I'm glad you're having success with MFP. Good luck and welcome!

That's a great story! I celebrate your commitment to your goals and to each other.

A tablespoon each: leftover shredded chicken, black beans, salsa, and shredded cheddar cheese on a whole grain tortilla. Fold in half and microwave for a minute, or till warm and melty.

I didn't like kale chips, either, but I may have overcooked them.

Is your husband eating less volume of food than he was before? If so, it is quite an adjustment for him to be eating less. How is he about eating vegetables and salads? The fiber in them will help to keep him full. And replacing his unhealthy carbs for more protein and healthy fats will, also. I found some good recipes at…

My mom was on niacin for awhile. It was a bit tricky, as I recall, but I don't remember why.

I'm on two statins, and not happy about it. High cholesterol is a hereditary trait (as well as the diabetes, at least on my mother's side) but my goal is to reduce or eliminate the need for statins by losing weight.

Thanks for the feedback. I have my carbs set at 40% now, but I've been going over some days, especially on vacation last week. I am going to increase the fats to 35% I know all about healthy fats, so I'm good on that. :) I've done Atkins and South Beach before, but since I've been diabetic, I can't go too low on the carbs…

You know, this is the double standard I've seen time and again. If a man has to lose weight to improve his health, the woman usually has to cook all his meals for him, and she usually goes along with the new program and benefits from it herself. But if it's the other way around, watch out. The woman ends up having to cook…

I can't confuse it with pasta -- they are two different things. I did try it with pasta sauce, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And I have mixed it in as an extender for pasta. My husband liked it with pasta, margarine, and Parmesan. However, I like it best as a squash side dish, with just butter and grated…

Thanks, dsjsmom. A year seems like a long time, but I guess if I were actually seeing some good results, it would be a lot easier to take.

Welcome, gina. I'd like to lose 40 pounds, but it is certainly slow going for me. I'm 54, by the way.

I admire you for looking for help to get your health on track. I agree with the folks who say to take things one step at a time. You can target a few specific habits to change, like not eating in the car, for example. Then it is not so overwhelming and you can see some positive results before tackling something else. Good…

Almost anything by Shakira will get you moving.

Fat-free ranch is nasty, IMO. Light is better.

I hope you consult another doctor to find out why you aren't having periods.

That's fantastic. Congrats!

I put chia seeds in my oatmeal, but the puddings sound great. Thanks, ladies.

Casey, The default settings on MFP set the carbs too high for most diabetics. You can customize them to bring down the carbs and bring up the protein to a level that will work with you in managing your condition. If you go to the goals menu and select custom goals, you can set your carbs at 50% or whatever level the…

Bananas are very high in sugars. Berries are good because they are lower in sugar and high in fiber. Speaking of fiber, Fiber One or Fiber Plus bars are a good substitute for a candy bar or other sweet snack. They only run about 120 calories.

Babs, Welcome to the group. Congrats on making a commitment to healthy eating, and to getting started on exercise. 27 minutes isn't bad for a start. It sounds like even though some things are out of your control in your life, that you are controlling the things you can. This group has a lot of wisdom and support to offer.…

Hi, Dave. I've been diligent with my meds and making changes in my diet for the past year and a half. My A1c has come down from 7.2 to 5.7 without much weight loss at all. I think I'm down 10 pounds from the beginning of 2012. I picked fiber bars instead of candy bars, whole grains instead of bread and chips, and added…

Welcome, VickiDiane. I just joined MFP the first of the year, and it has been a great help to me. This was one of the first groups I joined.

I'm already giving up enough with this diet, and so far it's not been very successful.

I took a spinach salad to a reception so I would have a healthy option. And with all the free booze at the trivia night, I had one glass of red wine.

I'm having a similar struggle with the scale, although I'm at a different starting weight. I suggest working up your fiber and bringing down the sodium. You won't have to change your calories, but you'd be eating more fresh foods and frozen vegetables. I can't guarantee results, but it's worth a try.
