Welcome! This is a great group, you should get all the support you need here. I started paleo in 8/2013, and am a bit more primal now - I don't shy away from cheese anymore. I did it to resolve digestive issues and it worked like a charm. I fall off from time to time, but I know the consequences so I try to limit it. You…

Agree with all the "crap" comments. Seriously - height, weight and maybe waist measurement? That info might be somewhat helpful, but not real indication of the fat/lean ratio. I think I was 24 last time I was checked. I do have some fat that needs to be gone, but I have some really good strong muscles too! Editted to add -…

You all got this!! You know how good it feels, so there's your incentive. I slide occasionally, but never for long just because it doesn't feel good. I have to stop cheating with wheat!! It's hard to eat a lobster roll without the roll though - that was my slide this past weekend! To steal a familiar quote "Wheat doesn't…

Thanks for all the feedback! I'll check out Nerd this weekend. He's one of my favorites anyway! I'll have to take a look at my averages too. I know some days I go way over, that's why I was wondering what people thought was a realistic goal. I know MFP is not designed to support Paleo/Primal without some tweaking! Thanks…

Welcome to the new peeps!! This is the best board to be on - stay out of the general boards if you want encouragement or advice on Paleo/Primal. I've only been following this diet for about 9 months and have had great results. No more "tummy troubles" and great blood work, lost a few pounds, more energy, rarely feel hungry…

My blood glucose was 88, and the doc said should be between 70-110 if that helps you Ortega. I requested my lipid numbers from 2013 - when I was eating the Standard American Diet and they were: Total - 282 HDL - 117 LDL - 151 Triglycerides - 50 so...20 pt gain on HDL, 22 pt drop on the LDL and pretty level tris. Eating all…

Sorry, I've not tried this program - sounds interesting though. I just wanted to comment that I change my routines up quite often, but I always come back to kettlebells. Out of the three (DB, BB and KB) KB always makes me feel so much stronger all over, and more functionally strong too. You know like for normal, daily…

Welcome! This is a great group to ask all your questions of. Paleo/Primal are just labels. I don't really know all the differences, but I know dairy is one that "isn't allowed" on paleo. I say I'm following paleo, but will eat dairy a few times a week. I'm not 100%, but do my best (most of the time  )Don't get hung…

Great post!

I enjoy a good glass of wine or two as well. Almost always red wine. I have what is called "Wine Wednesday"...my little hump day reward. I'll have a glass of wine on Wednesday night, maybe one or two on the weekend as well. I also occasionally have a margarita. I've been experimenting with what I can mix tequila with that…

^^^ Agree!!! Canned coconut milk does it for me. If I'm really missing my old flavored creamers I'll add a little vanilla extract and maple syrup and maybe some cinnamon sprinkled on top. Yum!

Yep, that's valid. There are a lot of books out there and websites with plans that cost money. But this is something you can do without spending a dime on that stuff. I actually never bought a book until after I started eating this way, just out of curiousity to read about the supposed science behind. I don't need a…

My husband hunts in the appropriate seasons, and we drink well water.....but no, I haven't scavenged or sucked marrow...yet!

Who is trying to "sell" anything with paleo? Farmers should benefit, since we're eating more natural, unprocessed foods. I don't see any big corporations backing paleo - there's no money in it for them! If I had a friend planning to try a "fad" diet that in my opinion would be unhealthy, then I would tell them. Fad diets…

Thanks for the feedback and the links to what I can actually make with gelatin. I've had 2 mornings of success. First morning I dissolved it in a small amount of coffee, then added the rest of my cup. This morning I dug out my immersion blender and made BP coffee and blended the gelatin into that. I think I'm onto…

Great post - scary topic. I haven't seen any of the movies mentioned, but I've read a few great books and blogs. I am definitely coming around to the fact that what I feed my body has a direct relationship to my health. I mean we all learn this in school, but of course it was based on the food pyramid. Environment and…

Chiming in on other posts, I love my newest meal. I use chicken or tuna, paleo mayo and a red onion to make a salad. Then I scoop out the inside of the avocado and mash it in with the salad. Fill both empty halves and eat for lunch. Yum! Love guacamole too! Avocados are sort of new to me, so anxious to see what others say.…

Yes thanks all for the responses. Dragonwolf - I know both of my parents are on cholesterol meds, and until recently I just thought it was an aging thing and that we are all destined to be on meds! I'll look into my family history a little more. Gluten sensitivity is what brought me to paleo/primal, I'll reread the…

I'm glad to see this post, since I'm worried about my upcoming physical. We had screenings here at work last fall, and they urged me to see a doctor right away (and pfffed at the paleo diet!). Triglycerides - 50 total cholesterol - 311 hdl - 100 ldl - 201 Cardiac risk ratio - 3.1 Ever since I remember getting my…

On work days, I pack a bag, so I log everything in the morning. If I know what I'm having for dinner I'll put that in too. Then I can see my day and make adjustments if necessary. Seems to work pretty good. I've been getting very close to my macros. Weekends are just log as I go and end up being not so "perfect". I find…

Interesting. My hairdresser does this and I keep meaning to read about it. I'm B and gluten is an issue for me. I can't go without tomatoes though - love them!

^^ Agree! I did invest in some almond flour and coconut flour for the occasional paleo muffin or pancakes, but I agree it's cheaper to do this if you just give up trying to replace the "bread" items with paleo compliant food. I'm also not strict about the organic and grass-fed rules. I know it's better for me, but I don't…

I followed strict paleo for 30 days last August (for health reasons, not weight loss), but to my happy surprise I lost 12 pounds that month. I had been struggling with 5-7 more pounds to reach my goal range and exceeded it! Since the beginning of October, I added back in some dairy and was more like 80% paleo - I gained…

I do 50f/25c/25p. Seems to work for me. I have enough energy and am never hungry.

I use olive oil, vinegar, a little lemon juice and then throw in some italian spices. I'm not sure about ranch-type dressings, but I made my own Mayo and I saw a recipe somewhere about adding spices to that and thinning with lemon juice to make a dressing. I think your tastes will change as you get further along and you…

Straight or pineapple juice or homemade eggnog!

bump for the ideas!

I am reading the book now and was planning to give it a whirl in January. I would be interested in any support I can get! I did something similar in August to kick off a change to paleo/primal, but have been backsliding a bit during the holidays. It will be nice to start fresh. Thanks!

I agree with Dragon's assessment on the gluten. I had many of the same symptoms that you mention, but all my tests came back negative. The doctor still wanted me to go gluten-free for 30 days to see if it helped. About 3 days in I felt so much better, and now 4 mos. later I can really tell when I've had gluten. The…
